Well, SRIV is supposed to be retarded (probably) so I would give it to Wolfenstein.

Saints Row 2 was great fun though, especially if you LARPed as Tyler Perry's Madea. The game was just missing the wilderness and jets ala GTA:SA.

This. SR2 is REALLY good, narrowly winning my pick for best GTA game (not GTA clone. It beats San Andreas in enough areas I consider it just barely better). No idea how they fucked up 3 so hard, and I hear 1 isn't all that great either.

Some of the writers who worked on SR1-2 left Volition before SR3, likely has something to do with it.

Could be.

SR2 had great gags in most cutscenes (all but the most serious ones) and yet despite trying to be funnier, SR3 had barely any good jokes (deckers.die and the horse cart exploded when you shot it and uh... yeah that's really it).

The only thing I really liked about SR3 was that pairs of hommies would acknowledge eachother

Steve Jaros and Drew Holmes wrote both 2 and 3, Holmes left after the third one shipped.

I liked 3's gameplay better. Lesi also owns it, surely a sign of our shared refined tastes. :M

How the hell do you like 3's gameplay?

It's completely against the mood of the game until halfway in because you are horribly fragile and need to hide behind cover constantly (in SR2 even on hard you can take a beating, but even on easy health regen takes so long to kick in you can only do it if allies are covering you, or the enemies are dead, making you expend consumables if you wanted heatlh.) and are put into critical health, if not death, if a slow car taps you (while cars are one of the bigger threats to your health in 2, only gang/police cars INTENTIONALLY trying to kill you are a threat). Weapons are also really weak so only accurate weapons (for instant kill headshots) are worth using (while in SR2 every weapon was useful for something, even the shotgun, and unless you got infinite ammo from an activity, you would change your weapons around regularlly).

I didn't find it excessively difficult.

I didn't think it was a good thing how 2 could make you practically invincible after the first mission if you devote all your time to completing certain activities.

Weapons are also really weak so only accurate weapons (for instant kill headshots) are worth using (while in SR2 every weapon was useful for something, even the shotgun, and unless you got infinite ammo from an activity, you would change your weapons around regularlly).
Weapons felt fine to me. Those big guy sponges that require QTEs to beat were kinda annoying.

I never said it was hard. It's just tedious and completely at odds with the mood.
All right I didn't consider it any more tedious then and they fixed two of the things that annoyed me the most: the awful driving and the bullshit escort missions.

Eh, I can only reiterate that it was one of the best CoOp games I've played in years and the over-the-top-ness of story and gameplay was refreshing in light of the taking-itself-too-serious-ness of GTA and similar games lately.
Haven't played SR2 yet though so I can't compare it (and that's probably why a lot of the mission-types also seemed fresh), I remember trying the port at some point on my QuadCore CPU and it chugging along like shit and basically getting 10FPS all over and I haven't tried playing it since (was a couple of years ago, probably before SR3 came out).

The port was done by CD Projekt back in the day (2009) by the way. xD

I don't really have an opinion of the new game yet, it seemed kind of cash-in-y back when it was spearheaded by THQ to be able to make some money quick. Apparently it started out as "DLC content" and expanded into a full game: http://gamerfitnation.com/2013/05/saints-row-4-can-you-expand-dlc-full-game/

I certainly want to try it for the CoOp though. :P

The co-op wasn't even good on the PC for SR3: Apparently Violition forgot that PC specs can differ, so you get completely out of sync very quickly.
