Subscription fee for online play means that there is basically no price point at which a console is better than a PC now if you are playing any kind of multiplayer games. It's purely about draconian market leverage forced developer servitude "exclusives" now.

Sure, Microsoft fucked the dog, but Sony knows that as long as they don't get caught doing anything more than fondling the dog's cock and anus they can still win. And they seem to be taking that opportunity.

I'm still of the theory that the Wii U's problems aren't going to be unique to Nintendo. The "gamer" market this gen was far beyond what it supports, fueled by a glorifyed fad in the form of dudebros/CoD and casuals (yes, they aren't exclusive to Nintendo) lured away by new mediums. Enthusiasm for the PS4 and ESPECIALLY Xbone has been low.

I've got to say: The crash and burn will be the best thing to the medium in almost a decade.

Poor Nintendo though. What can they possibly do with the Wii U to get some momentum?

Games.

No viable 3rd party support, unless Japan gets its ass in gear. They blew their wad on a 2D Mario, which is usually a big seller, but not on such a poor install base. 3D Mario doesn't draw the masses. Zelda will push some units, but people are tired of the same Ocarina of Time setup it's had for years.

Think they need a price drop to get it to that family friendly tier, so they have an audience for which they can roll out the Wii-Fit, Brain Age type stuff.

Nintendo doesn't need third party support. It likes it, but it doesn't need it in the slightest. Nintendo's had sucessful systems pretty much entirely from first party support already (remember: The GCN did make a profit for Nintendo because they can actually manage a business and while MS sold more, the Xbox didn't get the gaming division a profit). 3DS shows Nintendo is more than able to turn it around with just great software, even without breaking out their old guard.

BTW, why not a single word on PS4's own "kinectic"?

Wow, you must live under a rock. The push for these new consoles, since Sony's unveil in February, has been immense. Of course, the XBone isn't looking to good. However, the PS4 (especially that sorcerer video) was looking pretty good. I for one am excited for the up coming changes to the medium. No longer being relegated to video card technology from 2005 will be nice.

It was painful to see one illiterate moron after another sound off in the Gametrailers chatroom. I swear Gametrailers has the worst community ever, worse than Gamefaqs and Gaia Online.

Low is relative. Compare it to last gen and this is snooze worth. All real hype is restricted to enthusiast gathering places. The only mention I've seen in the "mainstream" for either is an article from some paper on their website on why the Xbox One is a horrible thing.

Gotta love how Sony is applauded for retaining features that have been around since the beginning of the medium.

Considering that this industry took a turn to retard-land, I believe common sense should be applauded.

It's needs to be since the rest of the week the business world is going to eat MS alive for the blunders they made, since the Sony conference will create the perception that they won at E3. As word spread over what occurred in both conferences and MS being a little greedy it will reflect on sales and heads might be rolling.

Sony have learned their lesson from the last generation: The lowest priced always wins.

This is why the XBOX 360 (and to a greater extent the Wii) sold more than the PS3.

This is why the PS4 will sell more than the XBone.

Price is important, but it's a combination of various factors.

PS3 vs 360 sales are very close though. Both generated a whole lot more third party software sales than Nintendo. It's the first generation where there is no clear winner at all.

But the massive dev costs have meant many of those third party software titles and difficulty in actually getting the dudebros to buy anything but the latest mass market CoD or GoW has made many of these titles failures and many of their creators have gone bust (even a handful of outside studios making first party titles have gone bust like Game Republic)

It's true it's out of control, but what can you do.

Take Square for example, they're still painstakingly working on Versus' CGI-quality assets. How long will they be able to continue this kind of thing?

Ultimately though, consoles friendly to third parties are still where the money is, the other platforms don't offer enough consistent revenue and volume of sales to be viable for bigger studios. People who buy these systems are the ones ready to pay $60 for many games. There's no way that some 99 cents mobile crap is going to provide a living for much of anyone or steal significant mindshare. And people are always going to be primarily attracted toward the biggest productions.

Have to wonder how MS thought their restrictions were at all viable. They had to have known it would be extremely poorly received.

Let the bodies pile up in the streets.

As a capitalist I hold firm to the belief that free trade is self cleaning like a vagina. If there are people who want good serious video games of a specific type out there enough to purchase it, I believe the market will find a way to provide them Capitalism has shown it will correct almost all real problems when left to its own devices throughout the course of human history and I have no reason to believe video games will be an exception. It may not be the prettiest game, or have a bunch of great middleware, but in the end, all that matters is the gameplay. Indeed, the crowd funding model has shown itself to be viable at first glance (I'll reserve proper judgement till the games actually come out).

Not true: bubbles burst. It's painful, but left to its own devices, the market will recover.

Look at the .com bubble. It burst, but internet business goes on, just now on a sane course.

You don't know anything.

Bubbles burst because central banks keep fucking up. If you enjoy getting fucked in the ass in cycles, then please be my guest.

So the government fucks up: How does that detract from the idea that capitalism rights itself automatically?

Grab the Codex by the pussy
Sony does have the edge at this point.

$400 vs. $500
no always online/DRM
better specs
MS's bad press to riff on

Also, apparently the PS4 ships with a headset.

Not sure the price points mean a whole lot when these days millions of idiots happily pay $400-500 yearly for the latest cell-phone model.

You forgot that users can rent games to use on their PS4, xbone don't do that.
