If The Longest Journey was a TV Series, I'd say it jumped the shark with Dreamfail.

Is the adventure genre so starved or are pieces of shit like Heavy Rain(which Dreamfail was like a prototype for) far more popular in the Codex than I suspect?

I'm setting up the Codex Dreamfall Appreciation Society. I for one want to see this story continued. All this 'last part of the trilogy' bullshit is plainly not true, you can tell Tornquist is crazy about the setting and the universe is so detailed, they could easily make more. I'd like to see a return to The Longest Journey in terms of gameplay, but Dreamfall-esque in terms of visuals and story presentation.
Dreamfall toned down the puzzles while keeping the storyline/dialogue above everything else.

To me, Dreamfall Chapters is one of my most anticipated games, and I pledged before even watching the pitch video.

Dreamfall felt like a game that run out of time. The story was fleshed, nice, but the more you progressed, the less puzzles and the less interactive it was. One of the last chapter's walkthrough read literall as : "Walk forward.". I wonder how much of Dreamfall was cut. They probably didn't bother to implement puzzle mechanics in the game to have so few of their own intent.

I think it suffered most because it went for the console audience. Perhaps they thought that was where the money was. Hopefully, now they're on Kickstarter, they won't have to worry about dumbing it down and can get to a more TLJ-like gameplay experience.

Of course there is no indication of them doing so in any of the released pieces of information, but I guess that hope springs eternal.

Well, PC-only so far, he mentioned Linux and mobile as potential stretch goals though on Reddit

Not much in the way of news, but FYI if someone's curious

Q: Do you have any plans to make The Longest Journey remake somewhere in the future?

A: We'll try.

Hear that, Jaesun? Your dream is coming true, TLJ with all the bells and whistles of Dreamfall. Save up money for their next KS!

Actually, what would be dumbed down from a game like TLJ/Dreamfall by developing for a tablet interface? This is an entirely different situation compared to RPGs.

I mean, yeah, OK, it could end up with a giant UI full of bulbous colourful CLICK ME icons...

The storyline/dialogue was the best part of TLJ. Some of the puzzles were too fucking retarded IMHO. Almost Gabriel-Knight-Cat-Hair-Moustache retarded.

Dreamfall toned down the puzzles while keeping the storyline/dialogue above everything else. Not to mention the gorgeous graphics that made the story come to life. It is one of the few games where I've actually shed real tears. :(

To me, Dreamfall Chapters is one of my most anticipated games, and I pledged before even watching the pitch video.

Agreed, it would be hard to dumb down Dreamfall any further.

Well, maybe if hadn't inserted shitty action and stealth mechanics they would have found time to finish the game properly.

They have promised no combat at all. It's in the 2nd part of the rps interview round table discussion.

The game was complete. It's purpose was to tell a story and it succeeded. The action sequences, while not necessary, were so few and far between that didn't detract from the experience (you could even skip them if I remember correctly). "Stealth" was actually fun. It wasn't Thief, but it was serviceable as it required only a minimum skill.

They took a concept of a likeable, believable looking woman in her 20s... and turned her into one of Melcar 's cheap whores.

Update posted.

As someone once said: "MAAAAAPS! Hand drawn in quality ink by skilled Sunriders. Ain't no better in all of the Northlands!"
This map will cover the entire (known) world of Arcadia, including Marcuria, and it will contain a TON of cool secrets, Easter eggs, hidden messages and hints to both the past and the future! Plus wondrous pirate treasures, arrr.

At the $50 tier and up you now get a super-high-resolution digital Map of Arcadia (including Marcuria and the lands to the south and west, and the islands) with annotations and whatnot. Lovely!

At the $250 and $350 tiers, you get a large, folded, full-colour paper map, for studying, pointing-at and putting-up-on-walls. Glorious!

And at $500 and up, you get a beautiful cloth map, just like in Ye Olden Days of computer gaming. Maptastic!
The maps will be added to all existing and future pledges. We're very, very excited to finally be able to map the world of Arcadia, and to reveal all those locations only hinted at in the past.

That's it for today's update. Thank you all for your patience, kindness and generosity, and if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

May the Balance be with you!
I must confess I'd like one of these maps.

I have watched a walkthrough video of TLJ and Dreamfall something like one year ago.
I really enjoyed both if them, maybe Dreamfall video a bit more.
Not that Dreamlfall story was better but because some part of the story in TLJ were too long and not so interesting.
I kind of regret to not have played TLJ but i was enjoying to much the video to stop watching or to go buy the game.
But i would have never bought Dreamfall, horrible gameplay. As much as i enjoyed the video i was glad not to have to play the game !
Quite happy with this kickstarter, i will wait to see if it plays like TLJ or Dreamfall. If it likes TLJ i will buy it otherwise it's better to watch a video playthrough IMHO.
I don't like the digital Zoe too.

It's those horrible face mutilations (also known as 'studs') that take it from bad to horrible.
