Isn't Elden Rings combat similar to Dark Souls? Because Dark Souls had like fundamentally different combat to Dragon's Dogma. Exploration might be similar, (although if it's like this one there will be towns with NPCs) but I'd probably look more at things the Devil May Cry games do (like style changes) when it comes to things a Dragon's Dogma 2 might do.
I do kind of wonder if DD2 might add that menu system from the Final Fantasy 7 remake to allow you to do more than the hot key system allows, and to quickly use items. It might be interesting if you had to use items in combat during the action as opposed to the safety of the inventory screen. The way FF7R implemented a kind of classic RPG menu system into action combat was so clever, I've got to imagine other developers were kind of kicking themselves for not doing it first. It's the kind of thing that seems so obvious you wonder why it took this long for it show up once you see it. It's also not like it would get in the way of having that hot key system; it'd just mean you could have a handful of moves at the ready, and then maybe you keep bigger moves you might not use as much in the menu. Could see team up moves and attacks becoming more of a thing in the sequel too.
I'd image it probably ends up having environmental damage. One of the cooler looking things in DMC5 was the boss fight with Goliath where building are coming down, and things are being destroyed. I could see things like ruins around in the environment being destroyed by large enemies, or some powerful attacks you have.
