I don't know why this thought took so long to occur to me, but now I'm incredibly curious about what happened behind the scenes after that notorious first trailer dropped. Because - as well all know - that was the real game. That was the tone they were going for, that was the audience they wanted. That was also the product they'd made.

It's very obvious now in hindsight that they went into damage control hard after the fallout, trying to cobble together what they could to make it look like they had an actual RPG ready to drop. And then of course they carefully tried to curate their review scores to juice those initial sales.

But ... behind the scenes, there must have been a moment for at least some people in the company (maybe not the toxic positivity hugbox of Bioware, but within EA somewhere) who realized "Shit ... we really fucked up with this game and people are going to hate it." They knew what they had, and they knew what people wanted, and we know because they did their best to chop and cobble together what they had to make it look like that's what they were delivering. Hell, Bioware devs were even gaslighting people they'd gathered to their preview talking shit about the trailer.

I don't think we'll ever get a Jason Schreier style behind the scenes but I'd sure like to know about the moment of clarity when people realized they'd made the wrong game. They probably had a moment of false hope when the curated Metacritic scores came in, probably like the Democrats did when that one Iowa poll came out that even I heard about - and then reality showed up, dick firmly in hand.

Ask yourself why Bioware has been silent about DA4 for so many years before its release. The short marketing cycle which some of these publishers have been trying only works when it's like a Nintendo direct, everyone is blown away by the reveal and the publisher can ride the hype wave to a release that's not far away. Obviously a bad initial trailer means this is all in vain.

What was the last major bio 'rpg' that wasn't nominated for game/rpg if the year? Was it Andromeda? DA2? JE? Weird with all the hype and praise from the media types, you'd think it be a shoe in..:D

One of the worst games ever.

Veilguard's predecessor Inquisition won both GOTY and RPG of the year at the Game Awards. And that was Inquisition.

I know DA3 did. I was asking about the last major bio rpg that *didnt* get nominated for rpg of the year.

But, yeah, the fact that DA3 did but DA4 didn't also says a lot.

The only major "RPG" that BioWare has released since was Andromeda, which got laughed out of the Game Awards with 0 post release noms.

It did however, have the dubious honor of wining of winning the Most Anticipated Game award in 2016.

Veilguard represents their utopia, but these people would go insane if they had to live in theirs. They'd create new conflict from nothing, like what they're doing right now, in fact. I think they crave conflict more than they crave an absolute consensus, even. It comes from within. That's why the term "spiteful mutant" was coined. They're perpetually at odds with society and need to upheave it..
At the root, these people aren't at war with society. They're at war with reality - they hate that facts can't be erased by their feelings and wishes. Their conflict is all-pervasive and constant because there's no escape from the law of identity. When you scrape away the rationalizations and deception, what's left is simple nihilism. They hate existence and want to destroy it. Since they can't, they settle for destroying those who don't hate existence.

I mean, you can send them to Siberia and let the nature heal itself and feed some starving bears and lynxes at the same time. People outside of safe first world countries only believe in this bs if they are terminally online zoomers/deranged adult losers and are stuck in Twitter/Tumblr/TikTok bubble figuring out which delusion will make themselves feel better when it's probably proper socialization and adulting skills that they are missing. Everyone else points fingers and laughs and mocks them. Identity politics are not enforceable outside of their insular groups and coddle-heavy society that wants to pander to them (and then again, people of differing opinions also come out of woodworks at some point), just like USSR couldn't survive with modern technology contradicting propaganda and offering different opinions and entertainment from all around the world. The fact that this year's hits were almost all produced outside of NA: by Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Swedish and other developers, speaks volumes on how the global market votes with their wallet. They don't vote for Hollywood entertainment anymore, same goes for games, if they don't find it relateable, and agenda issues are not relateable for normies that are 95%+ of planet Earth. We all just have to wait and see corpos course correcting in the span of the next four to ten years.

The Game Awards are, of course, meaningless, but it's amusing to see DAV was only nominated for the "Innovation in Accessibility" category:

https://www.thegameawards.com/nominees/innovation-in-accessibility

Apparently, it didn't make the cut for anything else?
Could swear the fuckers are trawling this thread for ideas:
If the PR people had been smarter shill reviewers would have been hailing the simplistic combat as a triumph for accessibility or talking about how the difficult development meant savings had to be made on the facial animation budget.
More seriously, is there a formal announcement denoting exactly which features it got the nod for?

Not that I could find. All I saw was the nom list on the linked site, which was already a pain since you had to click through each category individually. I'd seen an article on Deadline that listed the noms out in text form though, which was what caught my eye originally.

Innovation in Accesibility! Finally a game that doesn't discriminate against deaf colorblind dyslexic retards with no taste.
