The first part of what you say is absolutely correct. As for the second part, in relation to the first... well to say something of a semplification... what you call "normies" are preoccupied with their life and this means what the gestalt of their world-of-life is - this is informed by what is at the moment common sense, that is a mesh of received education, personal preferences, media you consume (so propaganda mostly in this era; the propaganda was before too, but there was, by necessity, food for who wanted to think) - and is mostly passive, for being uninterested or not capable to put it under inquiry or for social pressure - this also means that their ideas affect consciously their actions much less - hence their "hypocrisy"- "contradictions", in which someone can go, let's say, to church every sunday and act as a shop owner in the most un-christian way possible; or being a middle bussiness owner of social progressive "feelings" but opposing actual social work policies because it means a lessining (or perceived lessening) of your profits.
