unleashed probably the biggest backslash in gaming history.
E.T. for the Atari helped crash the industry. ME3 didn't come close to doing any such thing.
Doubt we can compare the ME3 fiasco to something that happened almost 30 years ago - it's like comparing cars to horses. It wouldn't be even possible nowadays.

All right a more recent example: THQ's uDraw pretty much put them out of business.

Uh, but uDraw is a platform plus we're talking about a backlash - in terms of an audience response, not just some financial fiasco (especially that ME3 sold quite good afaik). So I don't remember any other game, even Superman 64 which was exceptionally shitty, provoking such loud reaction of fans.

Shit just keeps rolling downhill.

I thought they would take a more DA:O approach to DA3 after the trainwreck 2 was, but these fucks seem to continue chasing the battlefield 3 audience. How long until they pull the plug on 'ware and it all gets buried forever?

The backlash to uDraw was that nobody bought it and THQ had to sell off everything.

The backlash to ME3 was that a few thousand people whined on the internet; a tempest in a teapot. ME3 DLC did well, Bioware marches on with ME4, DA3, and a new series.

This few were almost 70k ppl on BSN only:

Also they made it with their whining to all the mainstream and non-mainstream gaming media and beyond; e.g. Forbes was very interested in the affair. ME3 sales are obviously not an indicator of success or failrue here - DA3/ME4 will.

You're not really using backlash the way most people do. Gamers weren't mad that THQ made the uDraw, they just didn't care.

Not soon enough it seems. Better this way though, the end will be so much more glorious.

Maybe it would hurt bio more if they proceed to dont care about da3 and me4 instead of whining al over the net and begging for a chance to throw even more money at the company.

Probably. I'm not sure that a backlash means anything, the old adage is any publicity is good publicity. I'm not even agreeing with necroscope that it was the biggest backlash. I remember a big uproar over Activision removing the ability to host servers in CoD.

This.

I find it funny that most people seem to equate sales with quality (assuming that whatever pleases the sheeple qualifies as quality for the sake of discussion, obviously).

It's not.

With good enough hype and/or track record you could make millions buy your product even if turned out to be literal packaged turd.
What would be indicative of its reception would be sales of your next thing to those same people and that's assuming you'd burn out *all* your track record and failed to spin the hype.

If you didn't your enterprise would take even longer to collapse but it doesn't mean that the initial turd in the can wouldn't be a prime factor towards its demise.

I'm not a fool to seriously hope that the holdthewhine movement will send Bio to coffin, though they certainly lost some creative ppl who did lots of PR for them; I mean folks behind the artworks, memes, and such (like Miracle of Sound, the composer of Commander Shepard, as he also supported htl).

I myself am a good example because, unlike many codexers, I didn't hate Bio before ME3. In fact I had a lot sympathy for this company thanks to NwN persistent worlds - thie biggest fun I ever had as a gamer. TOR never bothered me, as I don't play MMOs, and DA2 wast their first true failure in my book. But fuck, ME3 sucked like a black holes gangbang...

Yup, looks like a few thousand to me.

Thousands mean nothing compared to millions. Most people don't even finish games so why would they even care?

Also Forbes was not interested. A blogger or two on Forbes was.

Hardcore fans have a disproportionally large impact on the reputation of a game, particularly in these viral times.

There was a pretty big shitstorm about the endings being bad, but that didn't matter shit. As long as people accepted the full popamolisation of Mass Effect with it's multiplayer and gears of war gameplay with xp bars it's fate was sealed.

Doesn't mean that they dissapproved of the shit story either. All those mouthbreathers clapped and teared up when the reapaz killed that kid in the prologue. Utterly retarded shock value and an extremely hamfisted attempt at trying to show the horrors of an alien invasion.

When Mass Effect 4: Extreme Heirs of Shephard gets released the manboons will flock to gamespot and walmart to buy it for their PS4s and Xbox 720s. I thought SWTOR taking like a rock in a lake would cripple bioware but they'll always be an endless supply of faggots for their sales to keep them afloat, if not make them profit.

Mass Effect has actually never been the amazing success EA would want it to be. It's sold a LOT less than Skyrim, for example. I believe it's in the 1-2 million at launch range, eventually gearing up to 4-5 million after discounts. It's not some amazing blockbuster success for its budget, time and ambition.

If the next one sells less, even a little less, the absence of growth alone would probably kill the series and seriously endanger Bioware. Same goes for Dragon Age.

No, 70k ppl voicing their disappointment is not a few, it's actually quite a fuckin' lot given the context. I wonder how many ppl bitching over a vg would be not a few - 300k, 1 million?

Of course they mean, otherwise things like pools (including pre-election ones) or surveys wouldn't make sense.

One of those bloggers being Alex Knapp, the staff member.:smug: Forbes published over 10 articles about the ME3 affair, written by various ppl. I just googled 3 in a few seconds:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexknapp/2012/05/14/mass-effect-3-the-return-of-the-shepard/
http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertc...fect-3s-extended-cut-too-little-far-too-late/
http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...and-the-pernicious-myth-of-gamer-entitlement/
Moreover other media referred to them as "Forbes" - not "some blogger".

... And now I see why some around here refer to you as agendacunt.

A few a lot, it doesnt matter if the sales dont drop significantly. As long as the same people who trow such a fit about the ending still think that the rest of the game is good as long as they are retarded enough to actually demand another ending instead of saying fuck you we dont buy your shit anymore t really does not matter.

"But regardless of the ending, Mass Effect 3 was still a good game, and Mass Effect is still one of the best series of games I’ve ever played in my life. So my hat’s off to Bioware for truly creating a memorable experience." from one of your links. Do you really think that such links and others who strike the same vein are a sign of voicing disappointment? It sounds like someone kissing bios ass and complains that his tongue feels a little numb after but aside from tht it was a delicious experience.

It could be a million of theese degenerates and it still wouldnt matter what the fuck they want.

Plus, 7ok voting in some silly poll is not the same as 70k 'whining'. It's probabaly no more than a few crybabies spamming their bullshit.

Let me quote myself:

So don't make of me a believer in the imminent fall of Babylon as I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. I just wanted to correct the bullshit - that it was a few thousand whiny fans (which suggests 3k or 5k), or that no serious media were interested in the movement, or that it already failed BECAUSE the game sold well. The next games will tell so why don't we wait here, see what happens?

BTW, if I'm disappointed by the whole game and someone else is disappointed by the endings then it makes us both disappointed; and if we're both voicing our disappointment, then we're both voicing disappointment, I guess.
