Original Oginial Sin had, at times, silly story and tried a little bit too much to be funny, but damn if it hadn't really great combat mechanics and was overall very playable - that's why let my jump on the beloved

Actually, Swen Vincke has been convinced to return to Kickstarter (he planned not to) to give the platform more pubilicity

I immediately received a few strong reactions, both publicly but also privately about how I got it all wrong, and that in fact I should steer Larian back to Kickstarter. The reasoning is that successful crowdfunding projects send more people to the crowdfunding scene and that benefits the smaller projects. This is referred to as the “halo effect” and one particular bright person compared it to “a restaurant sitting alone or on a block with many others. They all do better with more traffic”.

http://www.lar.net/2014/10/01/the-halo-effect/

Unfortunately, that's not true anymore and I am not sure if Swen hasn't been aware of the latest developments. Because recently, larger well-known franchises are minimizing the available money for smaller 'regular' projects on KS.

The majority of the money raised by video games was through very large projects. If the current trend continues, projects that raised less than $500,000 are on track to garner less money than in 2014.

In 2013, there was a significant correlation between large projects hitting the platform and smaller projects getting more support. The big projects were bringing more visibility to the smaller ones. This behaviour has now gone apparently. The below graphs better illustrate the situation.

Codex 2012 MCA Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 builds further on the foundations we’ve been laying with Divinity: Original Sin (D: OS), and Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition (D: OS EE). For us, this allows for an unprecedented focus on the gameplay. We won’t be “losing time” building the elementary systems that typically take up more than 60% of our development time. Instead, we can start building the world immediately and try out all kinds of things.

Don't fuck it up.

Good news, but they seriously need to craft better story arcs, either by ceasing to fall back on lazy tropes, or by pushing them to the breaking point à la Avellone..
Which makes me think that structural solidity, either story or gameplay-wise, has always been their stumbling block. They're aware of the gameplay side of things (EE makes that clear), but i have yet to see any sign of them being aware of their shortcomings in the writing department (moment to moment writing being rather successful on the other hand).
I don't think they have the writing talent in-house to take them to that next level, I played all the divinity games from larian so far and nowhere did I see even the slightest writing spark that would make me think they have it in them to suddenly start churning out quality characters, settings and quests.

Hopefully their new studios will uncover some better talent in that regard and along with new ips start dragging the European larian developers onto more inclined times.

I think the Divinity 2 datadisk had a pretty good writing.

I've seen them churning out memorable and quality lulz, at the very least. I still have to play original DD, but Divinity 2 was rather effective as fantasy pastiche and I think that this sort of tongue-in-cheek approach is what Larian is trying to do and I think it suits them - to go completely serious or, heavens forbid, profound, you need really good writers - even PS:T barely skirted that, not in small part thanks to its excellent atmosphere, it was still high-school grade philosophaggotry at best.

The problem with D:OS was that funny moments were not only of lower quality overall but also much more frequent. Humour works best if it takes you by surprise, so less is more here.
Paradoxically DOS was less funny because it tried to be more funny and whimsical.

Welcome to Uservoice. Consider yourself lucky you weren't around when Torment's was active.

Hahaha - They just added a new status for ideas:

SEEN – We’ve read the idea but other statuses don’t apply.
PLANNED – We’re very interested, and hope to act on this idea, but it hasn’t been set in stone yet.
CONSIDERING – This could be a great idea, but no decision has been made yet.
TELL US MORE – It sounds interesting, but we need more information and feedback on the idea.
NOT PLANNED – We don’t intend to implement this, but you can still vote to indicate that you’d really like us to.

In other words.. What the fuck is wrong with all of you..

Real time game
Let allow people to make the game faster with a "non turn based" orientation ... Toggable for tons of firefun ... With respawning mobs in some area, and minigames being done through firing tons of stuff to them... Just proposing (as the cooldown has already been added)

:incline:

And :mca: could be the hero Larian both deserves and needs.

I was hoping for a new setting. Divinity world needs final showdown between Divine and Damian to finish the story arc off not going far into past again.
Larian would be great in making real spoof of Mass Effect,Dragon Age, Fallout or the Witcher. Or some other AAA title.
Like those Sheen brothers facepalm comedies of the 90s
They already had "power rangers" cameo in Divinity 2.
Don't know how would it go regarding copyrights.

Will pledge at the lowest available tier for the game. No need for physical shit this time.

+1

All of the big three kickstarter "Old school" RPG's had highly disappointing physical goods. Wasteland 2, Divinity:OS, and Pillars Of Eternity. They probably didn't calculate costs properly and they essentially cheaped out especially on the cloth maps. They preyed on our nostalgia for old school physical goods. Lesson learned. Digital tier only for me (if I ever support another kickstarter i.e.).

I imagine going by the cover art (which really is horrible) one of their big "reveals" will be 4 player co-op. Something I have little to no interest in so I hope it's not too big a focus for them.

It's p. awkward for them to KS the sequel before the EE is even out, but I guess they want to make good use of the gamescom buzz

Exactly. Where are we going to find three other RPG nerds to play with us? It's hard enough hiding our shameful hobby away in mommy's basement.
