Apocalypse didn't suck though, it was just too ambitious.

Combat was more chaotic and more simplistic then orig. XCOM, so therefore it sucked. The faction mechanics was only addition that could potentially make the game good.

Today on RPG Codex: GAM IS TU HARRD ON HARDESD DIFICULT! LARIAN INSULT ME!

The skill curve is ruthless and very brutal at the beginning of the game in tactician mode. If you don't level up a bit and get some good gear and skills, then the game will hand you your ass.

67K concurrent players. D:OS 1 never got anywhere near those numbers. It looks like Larian might have produced a HUGE hit.

Yes, the graphics, looks the same like DOS. They could've refurbished so many assets, and really graphics arent that important, its the meaty, satisfying combat that is important. As long as its mechanically sound, and as the icing on the top -it looks good, then im all good with other aspect of the game, not being graphically impressive.

You're not looking close enough or perhaps playing on lower settings. D:OS was 8.7 gigabytes uncompressed (the EE added another gig). D:OS 2 is over 26

Which is why I'm sure they'll support the game for a long time and address many of these complaints. There might be expansions, a D:OS 2 2.0 and a D:OS 2 3.0 like PoE got, the sky's the limit.

The graphics still look the same as Dragon Knight Saga Eco Draconis Developers Cut Divinity 2 or whatever ridiculous name the second game was called, as I said. It's not bad, just a little disappointing that it hasn't really improved in all these years. Apart form losing the excessive bloom, which is :incline:

I also highly dislike the neutered character system and all the neutered 100% deterministic mechanics that come with it.

Sure, the one in dos1 wasn't by any means particularly good, but for fuck's sake, at least it was something. It had saving throws, spell penetration, casting failure chances, etc, now all that is there for you to raise is damage in hurr durr +5% increments, and nothing else. Ridiculous.

Speaking of budget, this situation reminds me a bit of VD's interview with RPS nearly a decade ago.
Kieron Gillen did some good interviews back in the day. Shame RPS is what it is now.

More games are in development – The Broken Hourglass and Purgatorio are good examples. The indie scene is pretty much alive and kicking, and all signs point to increased growth.

Damn. I'd forgotten about Purgatorio. Tried to find some info on what happened to it, and it brought me back to the Codex:

Hey, HEY, Monty...

... when will Purgatorio be released? :P

One might view Torment as the end result of the Atari-Purgatorio adventure.

Purgatorio would have been an expansion pack for NWN2 courtesy of Lawrence Liberty and the Rogue Dao team but WOTC blocked it.

I had an NDA with Atari but they've gone bankrupt and now focus on social casino games so...

:negative:

Game is pretty awesome, it's D:OS on steroids. I don't know what more you fuckers were expecting?

The same interactive world, with the same ability to exploit it in combat, without magic Star Trek shields cockblocking you even for a level 2 cockroach thing?

The same cheesy voice acting, but with accents from more than 1km2 of England?

Better itemization?

Better writing?

Better graphics?

Yeah, fuck us, right?

Does the game play completely different in other modes? Tacticool is all I've tried so far and you can't change ingame.

Can't wait for the EXXXXXTREME Edition in 2 years that addresses all the issues I had with the final 10% of the game but breaks all my savegames and makes me start over, just like it did with the previous game.

Go ahead, rate this post edgy. I double dare you motherfucker.

Been playing for like 10 hours now and I have to say I'm having a lot of fun with it

- Seems like I'm the only one here, but I actually don't mind the new dialogue style. It would get annoying fast if every game tried to do this, but I'm not against this game doing it.
- It helps that the writing seems to have improved since the first game. I'm usually really lenient on Larian's humour and quirkyness, but it can get overwhelming at times. I haven't felt that at all so far.
- Most voices are pretty good. You might not be a fan of fully voiced dialogue, but I'll tell you this. It made conversing with animals through the Pet Pal perk more surreal by several degrees.
- Quite a few annoying bugs, like quests not completing in your journal.
- Combat is as fun as ever, with the elevation element making a pretty big difference.
- The world seems more organic than the one in D:OS. The map makes me feel like I'm travelling through an actual region more than in the first game, where everything seemed like an amusement fair, with flashy rides equally distanced from each other.

As always, the Codex's pathological belief that good taste is expressed by indiscriminately shitting on everything you try is stopping a lot of people here from enjoying what is, at least so far, a really fun game.

The border of the imaginary
rerolled new mc:
started with +2 str and +1 memory
Str: Con:memory in 2:1:1 ratio in level ups
started with 1 warfare and poly morph
all poly morph stat points go into wits
at lv 6 with warfare 2 poly 2 necro 2 and retribution 1
Just finished Fort Joy and killed a few things ont he way to sanctuary for enough xp to reach lv6
The flying, physical armor Regen and bull head from poly-morph
decaying touch, pain shackles from necro
the charge, stomp and whirlwind.
using the ring which gives restoration and the glove which gives teleportation.
With some nice gar giving 100 physical armor and 80ish magic armor (1h + Shield); this guy is a beast. Not as good as a dual wielding rogue backstabber in terms of damage output; but pretty good tank and can decimate low physical armor mages with polymorph mobility with teleport and warfare knockdowns.

Me feels mnemonic feat is a must for all the awesome spells/abilities. whereas stat points should go into boosting main damage stat.

one good strategy is strip phy armor, then apply decaying touch on enemy and cast restoration on the enemy; lol

thsi reroll everyone got polymorph2 by lv6 for the fly/chameleon/heart of steel spells. massive boost in mobility and survivability.
