So the AI can impress but it was very very sporadic in my experience and actually felt jarring and cheap when it happened because of just how rarely it actually happened, almost as if the rules of the game had been changed on me mid-stream..
That might actually be true. The AI needs to offer a fair challenge both indoors and outdoors. Maybe they tweak some values on their responsiveness and perception when you're indoors vs. outdoors or in specific rooms, to make certain tactics possible?

Also, it's incredible what the difference 85 vs. 90 FOV can make. Nausea vs. comfortably playable.

Game looks fucking retarded. At least HR was semi-realistic and not a ridiculously overpowered imaginationfag game that's clearly ripped from Bioshock. Enjoy fuckers, I'll stick with Their Finest Hour.

One annoying thing is how some parts of the game recognize the consequences of your choices and some don't. For example, I didn't kill Cornwall or w/e is his name, instead had him branded dishonored, and the only recognition comes from one of the loudspeaker announcement that says he's exiled. The conspirators all seem to think I killed him. That's p. annoying.

Then you dishonored the wrong guy. Campbell is the right guy :smug:

The game really acknowledge your actions in a correct way. And in this case, if you "dishonore" him, you will actually be able to meet him in the future as a weeper. That thing was one of the rare real consequence I've meet in the game.

No, I just forgot the name. Interesting about the weeper, but I still expected a return to the loyalist bar with everyone being all like "omg you pussy! we told you to kill him!1!1!!1". Or something. Instead they had vague lines like "with him gone" and shit

And it's actually pretty fun as berserker rampage with some stealth elements.

Better Ending for nonlethal players? Are you punishing me for having FUN Arkane?

I'm in the middle of the game, and thus far it's better than Bioshit and DX: Popamole Revolution.

I'd argue that Bioshock was a MUCH worse game than either Dishonored or DX:HR. Though maybe that's because I'm starved for stealth.

So, I'm playing this now. Just started, already I'm put off. I'm escaping the jail, and there doesn't seem to be any way to solve my objectives save following the GREAT BIG COMPASS NEEDLE where-ever it wants me to go.

I assume this is just for the beginning of the game, and later it will open up and stop pointing me where I need to go? The point of different solution stealth gameplay gets pretty lost when all you do is sneak around where you're told to.

No alternate solutions can be turned off in options? :M

Also: Fuck the option to turn off quest compass. These games give next to no actual directions or descriptions of stuff because they assume you rely on the compass (I turned it off anyway, of course, but fuck them).

I went through the prison without any markers. Only had to turn it on briefly in the first real mission, and that was only because I thought the wall of light that kills you instantly was there specifically so I wouldn't go there, not because the game wanted me to bypass it.

Edit: Admittedly, the game could use a bit more clear directions, or rather, while the level design is great from an artistic and gameplay point of view, navigating it can sometimes be tough. I.e. some of the buildings you need to enter could be a bit more prominent or something. Since because you can enter pretty much any building, and there are many interiors, sometimes you end up in a completely different area where you're not supposed to be yet (but will be asked to go later on) instead at your current objective. But that's sparse.

Generally, thanks to the vertical level design, there are many different approaches to any area, and sometimes you can even bypass every guard to the point where you don't even encounter them (you can also sneak through and just avoid their FOV, which is harder, but if you look around a bit usually there is a route to avoid them entirely).

I'm pretty far into the game(5 or 6 missions down) and so far, there's only been one time I needed to activate quest compass, and that was only because I didn't have the necessary magic to get to where I needed to go. I definitely recommend playing without it. Remove the heart markers too, those are fucking retarded.

And don't forget to right click the heart randomly on people and places. I only found out at the end of the game and know I missed out. Interesting tidbits and foreshadowing.

Can you kill dudes by accident when you choke them? I did a non-lethal play of the prison and sewers, but it says I was detected once and killed someone.

Not when choking but. If they fall into water, they die. If they get eaten by rats, they die. Generally, anything that does damage will kill them in one hit.
