I wonder how the voice acting works in the Final Cut's new content if you switch off full VO.

30 March 2021 (London, UK): ZA/UM has today announced that Disco Elysium - The Final Cut – the definitive edition of the multi award-winning smash hit RPG – is available to purchase now via digital download on the PlayStation Store, Steam, GOG, Epic Store, the App Store and Google Stadia. The Final Cut is available at no extra cost to all current owners of Disco Elysium.

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut brings the residents of Revachol to vibrant life with the inclusion of one million professionally voice acted words by actors from all over the world, as well as adding brand new political vision quests. Explore unseen areas, encounter an expanded cast of memorable citizens, and leave an even bigger mark on the world, all with ‘quality of life’ gameplay enhancements and added replayability.

Not sure if it's actually out.

It will be out in about 4 hours.

The VO works fine, btw. Surprisingly competent voice actors that stay 100% true to the "script" (the text dialogue). You can switch between "Full, Psychological (all dialogue is voiced, but not the internal thoughts) or Classic (each NPCs introductory phrase is voiced, but everything else is text-only" VO in the game's options. There's no option to turn it completely off as far as I can see.

Also, it should be noted that Cuno's voice-over is different now after the Final Cut update and much less damaging to the ear.

I watched a bit of the livestream and so far I actually quite how it sounds. Suprised to hear the texts on the "game" (outside the ui/dialogue tree) are actually voiced too, that's pretty neat. Miss Oranje Disco Dancer sounds very good, and the new Garte while not sounding as good as the previous VA it's still decent. I think it'll make the quest with the cock carrousel a lot funnier since he actually sounds a lot more nasal and nerd-like.
There are a few differences in how the voice actor who plays the skills acts between them, but so far you really gotta try and hear it. I was barely able to notice it in an exchange between a perception and endurance, with the later being more "rough". Still not as good as every skills having their own voice, but if I'd like to hear a voice for half the game it'd probably be this one.
What I find weird is that so far none of the portrait art has been updated. All the skills have been shown with the art that is currently in the game, so I wonder why the ones on the Displate store are different.

Also the new art for Harry is great! Really encapsulates the "bloated corpse of a man" feeling.

Wait, what, they've changed the portrait?
Yeah, they've implemented a new system that has Harry emote with whatever you choose and even speak with a "chat". It's amazing what you can do nowadays with the current tech huh?

The way Half-Light sounds so calm and collected is just wrong. I always imagined Half-Light to be panicked and on the verge of a mental breakdown, especially in a situation like this.
Agreed. I imagine this is also be the case with Electrochemestry, PI or when Authority really goes off the deep end. At least that conversation with the precint sounds good, really like that they bothered adding in the static and radio-like sounds.

The narrator voices all "thoughts/skills" essentially with the same voice he uses to narrate everything else. I always imagined, for example, that "Drama" would sound all flamboyant and Shakespearian, so hearing the narrator's "normal" voice instead did scale the whole thing down a bit during my playthrough, but you get used to it.

You get used to it by turning voice acting off.

Interested to hear if they added more actual gameplay content, or if it's all just fluffy shit. And yeah, I read the interview, but I don't much trust anything these devs say anymore, sadly.

Everyone who purchases gets access to all the new content, including:
  • Full voice acting (English)

We'd like to add that the new political vision quests are designed to be asymmetric. This means that they're different lengths, with some being more visual, while others are packed with more words. But they all change the world in some way…

Other things to look out for are upgraded skill portraits, improved Tutorial Agent, rebalanced healing items, new outfit bonuses, a complete overhaul of the world map in your journal, fast travel, Twitch integration, and much more.

Thanks for all your support so far. We hope you absolutely love the improvements and what we've added to the game. This is the best version of Disco Elysium and everything it was always meant to be. You all shine bright in our eyes!

Grab the Codex by the pussy Pathfinder: Wrath

That sounds terrible, because it means the voice acting subtracts or at the very least works against characterization, rather than complementing it. I was looking forward to having every skill be its own voice, but now I don't think I'll bother.
