Seriously. How can they ask for a 390K$ budget and send the picture in kickstarter mail #4?
How will they use our money?
How will they use our money?
17 thousand backers, still a tiny niche of the US population. They are willing to play a lot of money each though.I suspect the minis market is a bit bigger than that. Many Pathfinder / D&D players buy them, and people who just collect minis to have or paint. It's kind of a different league than computer games. One big difference is you get tangible, real objects out of the deal. Some people probably see that as more valuable than the ephemeral experience of a video game.
From the Reaper Bones KS:
KS users are still only a fraction of the full minis-buying audience. But yeah, these people sure spend a lot - I have one friend who just bought a $400 case of Pathfinder prepainted minis. He has a lot of money to burn apparently, and collects them obsessively. His gaming basement is a sight to behold.17 thousand backers, still a tiny niche of the US population. I considered doubling my pledge for Deathfire, but find there is still too less information about the game. Kinda weird since I pledged triple amount to the Shaker campaign, but that's because they wanted to create something like Wizardry 8 (even though their pitch was retarded).
There's a difference between being full of shit and talking about something other than what the other person wants you to be talking aboutSo full of shit after all. I honestly hadn't had my hopes up.
Yeah, this is the one thing that does have me really interested. Shades of the Jagged Alliance personality system, only more in depth and dynamic, and applied to player-created characters. I'd love to see that work. The latest update describes the character interaction / personality engine in more depth... pretty cool stuff ...
I don't think any other blobber has attempted such a thing.

A Word to our German Fans
Many interested players from Germany mentioned to us that it is impossible for them to back this project because in order to do so a credit card is needed. Naturally, I see the problem, but sadly there is little we can about that because of the way Kickstarter works. It simply does not allow alternative payment options from the Amazon system they are using. So, in essence you do not really need a credit card. You need an Amazon.com account and a way to fund it. Sadly, gift cards issued on Amazon.de do not work on Amazon.com or else there would have been a smooth work-around.
We do not wish to offer Paypal payments at this time either, because unlike at Kickstarter where your pledge will be charged to your account only if the campaign reaches its goal and is successfully funded, Paypal will immediately withdraw the amount from your account. This means that if the campaign fails, we will have to manually refund every single backer. Since Paypal does not have an automated process for this, this would be an excessively laborious and tedious task. The Paypal pledges would also not count against the Kickstarter goal either, so we prefer to rather wait. Once we can foresee that “Deathfire” will be successfully funded, we will make Paypal available on the official website, of course, and we will offer the same FIRST DAY BACKER privileges available to those pledging with Paypal then.

Silly Germans
Can't wait to see Guido's glorious butthurt when this one fails too.
In "What does the press say?" he does not mention the Codex at all, but Rpgwatch 3 times.
Yeah I don't understand all the Guido hate either. People have an edginess quotient to fulfill I guess. I can understand critiquing the pitch / marketing, which indeed had some weaknesses (some have been fixed, like the $500 class), but actually reveling in his misfortune is bizarre. He's an independent cRPG developer making an old-school party-based turn-based RPG with decent production values and some interesting new ideas. Why is the Codex so hostile toward this? I would think he'd get more support here. Can't wait to see Guido's glorious butthurt when this one fails too.
I don't quite get those sentiments, is he really deserving of such an attitude?
If he had come back with Thorvalla, just more fleshed out and with a better pitch (and more humble attitude), Codex would be all over it. Blobbers interest only a part of the Codex, so you have a niche within an already small niche.Yeah I don't understand all the Guido hate either. People have an edginess quotient to fulfill I guess. Some of the backers have proposed more effective workarounds. Buying prepaid credit cards from gas stations and what not.
Yeah, I don't remember Thorvalla being all that special. Not sure why anybody would miss it.
Guido is actually doing the right thing by making a blobber (although I'm not sure his heart is into it, see those stretch goals) but he doesn't really know how to sell it, plus his funding goal is probably unrealistic anyway.

Nothing is all that special anymore though.Yeah, I don't remember Thorvalla being all that special.
There's much more to it than this. And since there are creators themselves explaining it quite well I won't try being a smartass. I will just tell you "Behold!":It's not that different from what Larian promised with the NPC schedules, but it's certainly a somewhat ambitious stretch goal.
Adding waypoints to some NPCs is similar to changing your combat engine? Hoo boy
