I realize this is too much to hope for, but I'm still foolishly hoping that this time it'll have a m+kb interface, since I play DS that way. Obviously it won't happen though.
Why would you do this? I love mean the game was developed for a gamepad....it is the equivalent of playing a driving game with keyboard or even worse TIE fighter. Just buy a controler and enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played

I find it to be really playable with m+kb. In DS1 I used WASD for movement, left click for normal attack, right click for strong attack, E for interacting with the world, Tab for lock on, X to switch right weapon, Z to switch left weapon, C to switch items, V to switch magic, F for block, L Shift for parry, R to use item, Space to dash, backstep, roll and jump, Q to toggle one handed/two handed grip. You'd be surprised how playable it is, AS LONG AS you use dsfix and dsmfix (without dsmfix the mouse is awful).

In DS2 I use right click for right hand attack, left click for left hand attack, mouse wheel click for lock on and holding Alt+left or right click for strong attack. Ctrl+right or left click is for switching left/right weapons. Mouse wheel up is for switching magic, mouse wheel down for switching items, shift+left click is for interacting with the world, and Ctrl+click mouse wheel is the one handed/two handed grip toggle. So in this setup I'd use alt+left click for parrying as long as I have a shield equipped. Also, F is jump, E is use item, and space is for dash/roll/backstep.

May not sound like it, but it's immensely playable for me with this setup. I've always used m+kb for everything and have never owned a console or a controller. For the most part since I'm not used to them, when I go to other people's houses and have the chance to play games with controllers, it mostly feels really clunky to me, I never managed to get used to that, but I do realize these games were made with controllers in mind. Also played through Super Meat Boy with m+kb and was surprised that the game so strongly emphasizes the need for a controller, since the default m+kb controls are really great in that game.

Well I did have to tweak it for a while until I managed to get it to a state which I found comfortable.

That applied to DS when someone used hack to get 60 FPS. When you have access to the source code, you can add a doubler for 60 FPS. Or decouple game engine from GFX engine which was what I was doing 20 years ago.

While 60 FPS is kind of expected I honestly dont feel it is as important to me; other than DS2 and the upcoming game they all have been fine at 30 FPS as long as that FPS holds.
I have DS2 (Dir 9 version) on my laptop running at 30 FPS and it feels almost as smooth as the 60 FPS version

The eye can't see the difference between 30 and 60 fps.

24 fps is more cinematic experience.

The functional advantage of a pad is primarily in the left stick. Move, and more importantly roll in any direction, compared to a mere 8 directions of WASD. But of course this does not mean a console game is unplayable with M+K, and vice-versa. Both input methods have many objective positives and negatives yet all are functional.

As for frames per second (30 vs 60 or some variation of), it matters, but nowhere near enough for it to be the buzzword & marketing go-to it has become today. Irritates the shit out of me. I bet half the kiddies that carry the buzz don't even know what the fuck it means.

People who don't see much of a difference between 30 and 60 FPS in an action game simply don't care about gameplay very much. Souls tends to be slow enough that 30 FPS is playable, but doubling that makes a big difference nonetheless.

The lock-on fucks with the camera in small, closed environment.

Also fighting multiple enemies at the same time is better without lock-on.

I fucking hate the ember glow in "human" form.

I don't mind it but I can see it getting old, real fast. Really don't want to see it on every set, every character, every playthrough. Hopefully it's something mods can fix.

You a dex fag? Never really used knives before. Except for dual dirks in DS2. That was awesome. Absolutely tore shit apart in NG+2.

I'm hoping the giant club is back. Was so good in both games. I'll probably just do a boring quality build, try and maximise options at first. But I'm a strength fag at heart. Really looking forward to scooping some dudes with the greatsword's special arty-farty thing :)
