I can only speak for myself and programmers "room", but we all were rather impressed by Mass Effect (yeah, I know, not a wise thing to confess here) and DA looks even more interesting.

You guys shouldn't be so modest, what you people did was much better than Mass Effect. In fact, The Witcher is basically everything I had hoped Mass Effect would be, in a fantasy universe. Granted... I also liked Mass Effect, but for entirely different reasons. So yeah, thanks for that. Keep up what you guys are doing, you're good at it and I'd like to see more of this style of game. Please don't try to change the formula too much, what you have works; just polish it up as much as possible. No pun intended.

Also, if you guys ever make a 'The Witcher In Space' sci-fi RPG... I will get a CD Projekt tattoo on my arm. And my leg. And probably other appendages as well.

You suck at being a brothaman. The only tattoos you should have involve the word "Thug" and your at least 5 babymammas, and possibly The Colonel.

Well I figured CD Projekt is a long enough name to tattoo onto my massive dick.

It doesn't make mean it's massive when you choose the font to be size 3.

No we dont. Sure, it's not exactly the most technically advanced engine when it comes to graphics, but it had lots of other stuff that basically let us hit the ground running. I dont think we'd pull it off without *some kind* of RPG oriented engine (UE3 isnt one). Remember we were fairly small company when starting (4 coders for first ~2 years, about 10 at release day), so we wanted to focus on gameplay aspects as soon as possible. It didnt went as smooth as we expected, but that's another story. Sure, in the perfect world we'd just hire another 20 people and spent 2 years writing our own engine.

To your credit, you did correct the worst performance problem (loading time) within one patch, which more than can be said of what Bioware did--or rather didn't do--within many, many patches.

I can only speak for myself and programmers "room", but we all were rather impressed by Mass Effect (yeah, I know, not a wise thing to confess here) and DA looks even more interesting.

Either way, I hope you aren't looking to ME as the kind of stuff to emulate, please? About the only thing ME has over TW is the shiny graphics, and even then TW is beautiful in its own right, and far more lovingly detailed--and more alive--than anything in ME ever is.

I'm starting to think DU works for EA or Bethesda.

Why else would he spend so much time posting anti-Witcher threads? I still fail to see them problem with releasing extra content and bug fixes at the same time. Especially for free.

Maybe he got suckered into buying horse armor, and now he's jealous of Witcher fans and our "free stuff patch."

Maybe he works for BOTH
Anyhow what CD Projekt is doing is not a bad thing if you haven't purchased The Witcher yet you get an improved game with some nice extras.
If you already own the game then all the extra content with the exception of some of the physical additions (new map of the world etc) will be available digitally via download for free.
How can you not go wrong with that?

I only remember Wrath Of Dagon from Iron Tower Studios/ Bioware forums linking to such an interview. I'll probably ask him for the link.

As for Bioware "feeding them" - well wasn't CDProjekt initially involved in making Polish translations of BG and other such game? Before they became a game developer? Not to mention lending the engine for the Witcher.

Either way, the whole Best Reaches Perfection is a rather bold claim. I mean, as far as RPGs go, we have Jon Van Carnegham's games and their massive scope, we have Troika's games where every point of INT changes dialogue options, we have Daggerfall with its three plotlines and nearly endless freedom, and so on. How exactly does the Witcher outdo all of them?

Yes, they are still translating and publishing Bioware games (for example Mass Effect), but what it has to do with 'feeding'?
Not to mention selling the engine for the Witcher.
Fixed.

"We" (well, our mother company) publishes and translates lots of games from various publishers (note: publishers, not developers). Does it mean they all feed us? So be it.
Plus, as has been already said, we *bought* the engine.

It *is* a bold claim. Just like most marketing claims. Would you prefer: "Quite good game reaches even better state" slogan? I'm not sure our marketing dep. would go for that :) More seriously, I see your point, but I also understand our marketing folks trying to find a catchy slogan. Dont treat that so literally. You can argue that Carlsberg is not the best beer in the world, despite what their commercial says. After all, how exactly is it better than all the other beers?

"The best PC game of 2007 reaches perfection" would be a more honest description. You really can't improve TW any further without dramatic revising of the gameplay and design concepts.

I see your attitude as "Wow! They're bug-fixing their game for free! We should thank them!" My attitude is "Bug fixes should always be free". There should never be an expectation that consumers should pay for bug fixes. If you buy any other product and find it's faulty on release, the company will most often pick it up and replace it at their expense (or is bound to do so by law). Why is it that when it comes to computer games, we're over the moon when faults are fixed free of charge?

Patches also don't need to be hyped. CD Projekt are re-packaging the same game they had last year, adding in bug fixes (and free content like a map editor they've already released for free) and re-releasing it as a Game of the Year Edition. If you bought the original game, you have the priviledge of registering (so the marketing department can get your details) and downloading what is alleged to be anywhere from at least a 1 to a 5 gig patch (an entire re-done audio track for one language alone would probably weigh about that much. Multi-lingual audio in 9 different languages is going to be huge).

Here's the crux of my problem. If you're like me and are on a slow, shitty internet connection with relatively low bandwidth per month (5 gig would chew through half my monthly limit and I already hit my limit regularly with the normal stuff I do, without the priviledge of downloading patches), you'll immediately look at the "postage option" which works out to about half the original cost you already paid for the game when it was released at full price.

I bought the game on release and spent $90 AUD. Add $40 for the Enhanced patch and the total spend is $130. Alternatively, I could've just not bought the game and spent $90 for the full Enhanced Edition. In short, I'll spend $40 more than I needed to in order to fix the game I bought. If I'd known The Witcher wouldn't work when I bought it and that it was going to be fixed for a cost, then I wouldn't have wasted my money. Can I get a refund? How about a new for old trade-in at the store?

The people who are happy about this are the fans who never had any problems with The Witcher in the first place and who would happily fork over extra cash just to support CD Projekt (at least according to the number of people who say as much on the official forums). CD Projekt's marketing department will go into a spin when they realise how many cows they have to milk. Here's the thing, this patch isn't aimed at them. I kept asking in the other thread and nobody answered: "Is this game messed up or isn't it?". According to CD Projekt, the Enhanced Edition is aimed squarely at people who had "the will to blow [their] head off" (CD Projekt say as much on their website). If so, then "especially for free!!" should be "A free patch? And they're hyping this as a good thing? Really?". Assuming of course, you're not stuck having to figure out how you're going to download The Worlds' Largest Patch EVAR™. And I really don't like it when that patch is hyped as the Second Coming of Christ and get told how thankful I should be.

It's hype. We used to have a thing against hype over here once. Okay fine, it's your marketing department and not you guys yourselves who are so cool for doing this and everyone loves you. It's still needless hype. Especially when the only example we've seen of the "completely re-done translation" showed nothing.

What happens when the Enhanced Edition needs a patch? "Perfection becomes even more perfect with the Super Enhanced Edition. We've now added completely re-done shoes to every NPC!"

He's been desperate for awhile. I mean, he's still claiming the EE is "just a patch" that is "fixing bugs".
