This is the problem, I guess; I know there were lies amongst the whole Sseth-CoQ drama that were much more minor in scope, so it's hard not to take elements here with scepticism.

Fwiw, I'm 100% not saying that it's not doxxing to post/link existent stuff, far from it; just that I haven't even seen that much. It's one of those things that, as far as I've personall seen, has been entirely narrative with none of the implied evidence, which ... seems especially suss when the involved parties don't seem to harbour any visible grudges.

Anyway, hopefully you or another has something more substantial.

Creators used to take the stance that sure, their personal views might find their way into their work on accident, but it was up to the consumer to interpret that however they like. It was almost never intentional.

Now you have retards like these devs (though they're hardly alone) who not only intentionally put it into their work, but aggressively police their audience. You didn't interpret it in the right way? They will loudly tell you you are wrong and you HAVE to read it this way, and if you don't they'll warp their own creation and expressly change it just to drive the point home (The Boys was a great, high profile recent example of this), and of course they're going to take moderation action against you if you don't outright agree with their views.

I don't think Avellone is unique in that sense. That used to be the mainstream, most common opinion. The game itself isn't really. The main thing people cry 'wokeness!' about is that you can't play as the 'fascistic' templars, but they're just one of 60+ factions you can't join, so it's a bit of a non-complaint -- at least politically -- to make a big fuss that they're not an option.

Some of the devs can definitely be ... intense (lol), but it's nowhere near as much a part of the game as people suggest, and you'd probably find more drama from random fans (as NEG indirectly showed) than from the actual developers.

Game itself is a lot of fun and gorgeous, so worth trying, assuming you're okay with the typical traditional roguelike's development schedule >_> lol.
