The maxim: "A game is never finished, just abandoned" has never been so true. Modern funding solutions and market perception allow developers to extend their deadline indefinitely, as is the case here.

Personally, I don't mind, I usually decide when a game is over long before the endgame is near, and find it nice to discover it has been improved if I decide to pick it up again. Game endings suck, anyway, with few exceptions.

It's a roguelike. It has always been that way with roguelikes. Nethack has been in continuous development since 1987, UnReal World, since 1992, ADoM, since 1994 (with gaps). Qud is very, very young by roguelike standards.

Indeed, plus it's now a profitable development model.

This is one of the best games ever made, and if you're wasting everyone's bandwidth whining about the devs' politics that you will never see in the actual game itself, you are the entire reason this site is a laughing stock.
that's interesting because
gxSycup.png
playing this was kind of fun but then I had to speak to the developers self insert fursona Queer Girl to progress the main quest and lost all hope for the game. wishing to get killed by anthropomorphic creatures soon to end this nightmare.
my funniest death so far was being sucked into a teleporter vortex by an unseen caster then immediately charged and murdered by a rhinox in the first turn

Wow this game is woke can't wait to play it!

Caves of Qud - AlphaBeard
2.0.186

  • You now get a popup message when one of your followers dies, with some exceptions for temporary or swarming followers.
  • Added some conditional dialog to Yurl.
  • Added the framework for certain dialog options to reveal secrets in the Gossip and Lore tab of your journal.

  • Extremely hot objects now cool off a small percentage of their heat instead of a low, flat amount per round.
  • Phase cannon and swarm rack turrets now start with much less ammo.
  • Excluded some offensive words from generated text results.
wait until you find the gender-neutral plant people that refer to each other as 'xer' and 'xerself'

And the worst offender of all is how slow the development has crept the further insane the dev has gotten.

"How slow the development has crept"? What the actual fuck are you talking about? This game is getting weekly content updates and has been for years. It's actually amazing to me that the lead dev is so committed to this project because he's very rich several times over from previous successes in his career, Qud being only the latest one.

"Self insert fursona Queer Girl" is one character in a massive game. I doubt you'll even live long enough to meet her. She'll occupy your screen for maybe a minute. The fact that this is some kind of trigger for you shows how central you are to the decline. Do you even like RPGs?

They have another huge expansion in beta right now. It's one of the best RPGs on Steam. If you don't like it for political reasons, you're a fucking idiot.

I do have to wonder, seriously, if it's actually the developers themselves that are ultra pozzed, or if it's just their newest cohort of writers and all of the community managers. You have good intentions and you let these people slip in, and before you know it you're not even driving the train any more. You can't get off at that point without being forced to abandon your passion project. It's obviously not about the money or company reputation, because business actually improves when you openly tell these people to fuck off. In that respect, I'm sure they do believe most of that crap. At least up to a point.

Even then, there really isn't that much woke stuff in the game at all, which is why I question if the devs themselves are actually suffering from late-stage TDS, or if they're just trying to look that way because they know they'll be #MeToo'd if they don't. The thing about ultra woke people is that they are absolutely incapable of keeping it in their pants. If they ever endeavour to create anything, there will not be a single pen or key stroke made in the process that was not deliberately and overtly Marxist.
The game itself, in a vacuum, is apolitical. In Caves of Qud, you don't even get forced to pick your pronouns at character creation which would be a minimum for woke games. The only real offenders from memory are the self-insert queer fursona and those plant/mushroom people calling themselves "xir/xirself". Even the latter kind of makes sense, although if I was the writer I would use "they/them" for the plants (if I was forced to put something there) because they are words that can actually be pronounced by ordinary people.

I think the major flashpoint that brought all this crap out was how their psycho community managers handled the Putus Templar. That drama has probably already been covered in this thread (i cbf reading 27 pages). But, if that never happens, maybe we never find out how bad it really is aside from some devs posting #BLM on their twitter profiles, which most game devs do anyway. We certainly wouldn't have found out by actually playing the game.

Azimuth is still a fucking cuck though.

They banned Tsseth while he was covering the game and promoting it for them, and they began whining about how said video would attract the "wrong kind of buyers". By this point, anyone would find out quickly. These guys also may be responsible behind an attempted doxx against Tsseth.
