Initially, I thought of going in with Dwarves. Solid, albeit slow, the Dwarves are really hardy bowlers from the start, but the slow speed turned me off. I preferred something with flexible approach - and having 2 Human teams that have 1600 TV+ makes me more comfortable. But I'm not allowed to insert those two team. The Redknights 47th is busy in Codex League - while the AAaaaaaaaa Team (1800+ TV) is banned due to having too many Auld League matches against Halflings.

Seriously RK, do not give up because of that. If it helps convincing you, I'll step forward and abandon my old team to start with a new one. I just hate when people are interested but are turned off by differences in experience. Seriously, lots of people started with fresh teams and did amazingly against all kinds of TV. Blood Bowl does a good job at helping the less experienced team. In fact, you shouldn't worry too much about the TV difference, but in the experience of the player behind those teams. Meaning, a noob could have a 3000 TV team and lose anyway.
- Falconeer, F13 Blood Bowl Organizer

For those unfamiliar with Blood Bowl, I'd say it's a cross between X-Com (Minus the base management) and Jagged Alliance and American Football. Read more at http://bbtactics.com/

Now, here comes the fun part and Codexian tradition (did I mention X-Com similarity?)
Come and represent the Kodex!
Here are the roles available based on my preferred starting roster:

ogre.jpg

Ogre x 1
Ogres hit hard, and move at moderate speed. Considered as the essential 'muscleman' for the humans, the biggest problem is getting him to execute orders properly. Being Bone-headed makes him somewhat unreliable to make that crucial block - he'll forget everything, including the players all around him!

1. Due to Roster changes, this slot is unavailable till further notice.

blitz.jpg

Blitzers x 4
The heart of the human team, Blitzers are good at what they do and speedy enough to match most runners. Starting with Block, they will perform their namesake well. A human team can only have up to 4 Blitzers. They cost 90k each, the 2nd most expensive positional in the human team.

1. Jaedar - Mobile Dodger
2. Brother None
3. Whitewolf - Killer
4. Gondolin

throw.jpg

Throwers x 2
Throwers tend to hang back and wait as the rest of the receivers get in position. They can make or break a scoring attempt and provide the Human teams with options. They're not the best passer in the game, but not the worst either, starting with both Throw and Sure Hands. Other human coaches may prefer to have him hang on to the ball and carry it to the end zone instead of relying on the middling agility throw and catch rolls.

1. Humppaleka - Codex Martyr
2. XenomorphII - Playmaker

catch.jpg

Catchers x 2
Catchers put their lives on the line to receive the ball, eschewing armor for increased mobility, Human Catchers suffer from lower STR (2) and may suffer from high casualty rate. If his middling Catch rate succeeds, he could win glory for the team ... if he survives to the next match.

1. Azira - Designated Catcher
2. stabby - Speed King
3. Due to Roster changes, this slot is unavailable till further notice.
4. Due to Roster changes, this slot is unavailable till further notice.

line.jpg

Linemen x 4
Linemen are less talented players whose roles are very general, but tend to gravitate towards 'line fodder'. They take blows so others don't have to. They mark expensive players, forcing them to dodge or push them away. Linemen tend to be disrespected, but a coach cannot ask for a cheaper alternative than the average linemen to absorb punishments. And to be frank, when there are no other options are left, linemen will get a shot at glory or die trying.

1. Hellraiser
2. Angelo85 - Designated Kicker
3. eklektyk
4. LundB

Sign up now, and thank you for your support!

:salute:

Reserves:
1. Ulminati - Ogre - DEAD
2. Garm - Catcher - ACTIVE
3. Corporate Jew Master - ACTIVE - J.Riccitiello
4. Lindblum - PENDING
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Sign ups are complete, but we may need more in the future since players may die or have career ending injuries.

Humppaleka not sure what happened but the game won't let me put in your name.

So I put in Umpalekka instead.

I've applied to their pre-season league to get some TVs up. Perhaps we will play our first pre-season warm up tonight. Thanks for your support!

Ulminati, ogre.
You're going to need me on the LoS or you'll be bleeding linemen from every orifice. There are a lot of bashy teams in that league. If some of those are a couple of hundred TV above you, your team will get slaughtered beyond repair if your opponent is halfway competent. Fuck the organizer, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Doubles: Block -> Pro -> Frenzy (If I have Stand Firm), Dodge (Otherwise)
Normals: Guard -> Break Tackle -> Stand Firm -> Grab

If +St, then get Multiblock on next normal skill

Consider orcs. Skaven will be slightly tricky for you to go up against, but they play similar to humans and are less likely to all die horrible deaths at the hands of some tooled up nurgle rotters or dwarves. The cookie cutter starting rosters for LRB6 orcs are:
  • 2 Linemen
  • 1 Thrower
  • 4 Black Orc Blockers
  • 4 Blitzers
  • 3 Rerolls
  • 1 Fan Factor
Or
  • 1 Lineman
  • 1 Thrower
  • 4 Black Orc Blockers
  • 4 Blitzers
  • 1 Troll
  • 2 Rerolls
  • 1 Fan Factor
Or (If you want to toss goblins from the word go)
  • 1 Goblin
  • 1 Thrower
  • 4 Black Orc Blockers
  • 4 Blitzers
  • 1 Troll
  • 2 Rerolls
  • 2 Fan Factor

Tagging Undead Phoenix who's an ok BB player.

Humppaleka, Thrower. I want to die a horrible death after passing a dream shot to a Blitzer. :bounce: (Alternatively fail a Going for it -check and tripping over on the Touchdown line breaking my collar bone.)

Signing up as Lineman Angelo. I shall gladly lay down my life for the sake of my brothers.

Though a quick heads-up: if we face-off against a dwarven team I might let their Blitzer slip through the ranks to tackle our Thrower Humppaleka

Uh, Ulminati
the reason why I skip ogre is to have a more open roster, but I see your point and will modify the team roster.

If you want to have a more open roster, you can always hire the ogre later.

Not that you'll ever get gold enough for an ogre after team creation. Because your team will get utterly demolished by the TV1500+ juggernauts and you'll spend the rest of the league being 75% journeymen. :3
Unless the league seeds teams by TV. You should suggest that. Let the veteran teams bash each other to a pulp a bit instead of cherrypicking the newbies.

Was thinking more of like ... using the inducement to hire the Ogre.
The Ogre SPP rate is fuckin slow and most of the time he's a passive player.
I'm really hating the Ogre a lot, but I do admit he can be a clutch in some situation.
So..I'll be taking away the Ogre for a much more balanced team then.

Essentially, using Big Guys in blood bowl boils down to the following:

1: Get them early, so you can start getting them SPPs. If you get them before the entire enemy team gets block and dodge, theyr'e easier to skill up
2: Try to get them some blocks with 2 assists (st5+2 vs st3 = 3-dice block). 3 casualties or 1 casualty + mvp = skill
3: Once you get guard, use the big guy to help your other players get extra assists. This won't require the big guy to pass bone head. He's a solid pillar to build your cage around
4: Don't use rerolls on your big guy unless you have plenty to spare
5: Only blitz with your big guy if noone else can use the blitz action

Having an av9/st5/thick skull player with guard to put on the line of scrimmage can help a ton keeping your linemen alive when you're receiving.

Well, this should be an interesting read, yes indeed.

So with that said, keeping in spirit of my not so stellar 'zons I'd like to sign up as a catcher por favor. I'm not brave enough to be a lineman, and extra MA is good for running away from... err, I mean towards the endzone.

Corporate Jew Master, Blitzer preferably or Lineman. I used to play Kwaball, loved it.

Best of luck to you. Bring glory to Codexia and the Multi-Headed Dick

Alright I've got some pre-season game lined up tonight and during weekend.
Pre-season objectives:
1. Get an apothecary (50k)
Having an apothecary can save veterans or highly valued players from suffering career-ending injuries, or in some cases - death.
It might've been more prudent to skip the extra Lineman and instead went with Apothecary on team creation, but I went with more players instead.

2. Afford an Ogre
We need a power player. But the Ogre comes with downsides and his price takes up 2-3 player worth of gold. I delayed him for this reason, but eventually his Mighty Blow may be a game changer. I'm just not sure if he's worth risking in active plays.

3. Skill Development
We're not assuming Doubles on Skill up but generally I want:
a. Blitzer: Mighty Blow - basically the killer role.
b. Catcher: Diving Catch - +1 to catching accurate pass to improve reliability
c. Lineman: Kick - reduce mis-kicks.
d. Thrower: Accurate - +1 to throwing passes.

The road is long and hard, but let's take it, one step at a time.

For blitzers, you want a combination of mighty blow and guard. MB is more fun, but guard wins games. Once your cage gets surrounded, they'll be what gives you 2-dive blocks instead of 1-dice.

For your catchers, getting block+dodge, then side step will probably be a lot better than diving catch. Since they're av7/st2, they are going to be prime targets.

On the linemen, be sure to get at least two (preferably everyone) with block. This will make your LoS less likely to crumble and leave you outnumbered when kicking.

Nah man, orcs is the power team. 9 players with access to guard+mighty blow, 5 players with str > 3, plenty of ag3 players to handle the ball.
