Paid mods is an idiotic concept and a scumbag practice.
Many companies engaged in it and continue to do so.
In the meantime, the best mods for all the games you can think of are made by people who love the base games and have skill.
Modding was always intended to be for free. Things made by the community, for the community. A bunch of hobbyists who love a game coming together to make more content for it.
As soon as you add monetary incentives to the mix, you introduce rot. Nothing good will ever come from it.
Modders have achieved some genuinely great things, and mods often have a personality you can't find in any commercial release, just the author's unfiltered creativity. Modding is pure and unsullied creative force. Whether it's a titty mod made by a horny teen, engine ports coded by programming savants, or surprisingly artistic levels designed by housewives who just like the game's vibe... there's genuine soul in mods. Not one ounce of commercial aspirations, just people doing what they love.
