That cell shading is cancer though.

Is that what the black outlines are, cell shading? I think they look good in this game, actually. It's my first experience with them and I tried playing with them both on and off, and I prefer them on...

I agree that I hope it does well on Android, too. Would be great to have more RPGs like this on Google Play just in general as well as fun things like crossplatform multiplayer and what not.

Tim Cain designed Fallout to have it's own rule-set, precisely because Steve Jackson Games (GURPS) were becoming too intrusive during Fallout's concept period. Going beyond just providing rule systems/lore etc, the GURPS crew appeared to want artistic direction of the entire product. Maybe felt Interplay/Black Isle were overshadowing their work? Anyway, fed up, Cain just amputated GURPS from Fallout before it was finished, using the basis of GURPS to create something similar. This is a reason why the franchise became so big, Interplay/Black Isle (& now Bethesda/ZeniMax) never had a GURPS or D&D license holding the brand back. It was the best thing for Fallout, not that it matters now when you look at the state of it under Bethesda. Further more, Obsidian has seen the benefit of this approach, they won't touch GURPS, D&D or any IP that could stifle them - Pillars of Eternity is 100% their own.

Interplay had so much success with it's CRPGs, Forgotten Realms became the disproportionately more popular setting under D&D. Yeah, I'm sure WotC creatives were fucking thrilled lol. WotC have even slowly obscured the setting labels from most products since. Placing the "DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS" brand there as an umbrella label, to even things out.

So given all that, do you think it's a fucking coincidence when the old CEO from Interplay, approaches Wizards of the Coast (2013) for rights to Planescape "Torment II", they reject it, despite the overwhelming success Interplay and Fargo had previously with D&D?

They obviously still see Fargo as a Mind flayer who fucked with the creative integrity of their group :lol:

For an example, check out the interview with Arnold Hendrick where he talks about how Skyrim is the best rpg on the market. Really want that guy making an "EE" version of Darklands?

Absolutely. Skyrim is not an interactive movie like many big budget RPGs are today and still focuses heavily on gameplay and exploration. That is enough for me to enjoy it more than all the other popular RPGs nowadays.

I made sure to grab the Planescape: Torment on GOG before they remove it and "upgrade" it, which I'll probably be distributing illegally, since it'll be impossible to get legitimately without supporting Beamdog and the EE soon. I haven't gotten it before, because I knew it was on GOG and I've actually got my original CD:s somewhere, and the original box.
Don't advocate piracy, on a DRM-Free platform, CUNT.

I've checked the list of 41 improvements that a re supposed to be so awesome and it doesn't look good. There are like 6-10 useful improvements (I've bolded the ones I found at least a bit interesting/useful), around 10 are conveniences for idiots and the rest is pointless. All in all I don't see how these improvements warrant a doubled price.
1) Chris Avellone editing pass - it's a nice touch but in the end insignificant (not to mention that grammar fixes were introduced via fan patches). Planescape: Torment has always been regarded as the pinnacle of writing in games so I don't see how it could be improved just by fixing grammar or name consistency, I certainly won't notice it because to me it's already superb.

2) Able to zoom out to gain a wider view of the game - zooming is unnecessary if one plays at proper resolution (or on CRT monitor) and it doesn't look good as can be seen in my example.

3) Object highlight mode - now this is a cheating mode and a change for the worse. Let me quote @t since he said it better than I could:
Ok, you just might be a moron. Highlighting objects will break quests as the game has been developed with no highlighting in mind - see stash quest in buried village. Changing text size, high resolution support, high res UI are already there in mods. So what, zoom? So you can switch between normal and pixelated as fuck? Edit: also mods will give you running (I.e. actually dangerous and not ones that you can run circles around) monsters.

8) Options to adjust text size - available with mods and can be easily installed via mods manager (and here you CHOOSE what to install, nothing is shoved down our throats)

9) Option to search the journal and quest text - convenience but at the same time it dumbs down the game since you don't have to remember anything. And it's hardly an achievement by Beamdog considering they've had source materials, if they would give them to the modders we would also get things like that and more

10) Option to set language from within game - doable via GOG Galaxy

11) Tooltips easier to read - had never problem with these but OK, let's say it is an improvement

12) Improved Pathfinding - all you need to do is to edit the torment.ini file in the game directory and change the appropriate line. Beamdog's version might be better, but again they've had source materials which modders had not.

13) Smooth Fog of War - haven't noticed any problem with it but OK

14) Options menu accessable from start screen - doesn't matter much, most of the options need to be seen in game anyway

15) Most recent save accessable from start screen - one click less, an improvement but not very important considering one will save like 5 minutes during entire game max

16) Movies and plot events now work correctily in windowed mode - don't know why would anyone play in window mode but yeah, this is a fix too. It's doable in the old version too though, although only by using a third party software AFAIK

17) Fewer clicks to cast spells, change weapons, use items, etc. - yes, that is an improvement, possibly the biggest, although UI looks fugly

18) Performing actions no longer obscures game world - not really, with mods that's not a problem

19) More autopause options - don't know what that is but I'm guessing it's pointless since combat in P:T is primitive and it's the last reason people are playing this game

20) Load screens removed - maybe when the game was on 4 CDs, with SSD drives loading is instant

21) Smoother area transitions - pointless, although some might enjoy it, hard to tell at the moment

22) Option to see health status of creatures - it changes the balance of the game and such information makes the fights even easier

23) Framerate adjustment options - would have to see to make a verdict

24) Option to cycle through spell descriptions - another option for people with a goldfish memory

25) Option to make cursors larger (option not available on Windows 7 and Windows 8) - pointless

26) Option to apply sprite outlines and highlight the selected sprite - see #3, plus it looks ugly

EA is a bacterial infection, the spread of which can be contained and safely ignored, and they're competent in their evil, and although reviled, can still be respected. It's not piracy, it's archiving and conservation. And more importantly, about denying Beamdog revenue. Shortly, it will be near-impossible to get your hands on Planescape: Torment, without having it at the very least bundled with the "Enhanced" Edition, and without supporting Beamdog. You bet I'm going to advocate piracy in this instance.

In case the current Planescape torrent on The Pirate Bay ever drops dead, someone drop me a line. It's nothing short of a cultural treasure, and one I value higher than some broad that's trying to not laugh as a cook paints her.

Between this and ME:A's prescriptivist companion, the prescriptivist agenda is being heavily promoted in recent RPGs. The ultimate culmination and logical conclusion of this is a game where "OMG I'M A GRAMMAR NERD" and you run around shooting linguists and people who don't follow your personal style guide, while being aded by a 60-year old English teacher who also moonlighted as a copy editor.

Bleh, I knew hoping they'd revamp combat/spell system was too much. They did a pretty swell job with that in IWD, but I guess they couldn't be arsed with it on this one.

Might be better? The improvement is as a plain as day for those who aren't blinded by their buttmadness (I noticed it just in the vid and aVENGER confirmed right here in this thread). PS:T had the worst pathing routine of any IE RPG; worse even than the original but final-patch BG [1]. Common knowledge, that. Increasing search nodes to max in torment.ini didn't suddenly bring it to BG2 lvls, let alone SoD lvls. Common knowledge, too. Because they obviously made optimizations to the codebase that wasn't in the older, more primitive BG1 and PS:T engines. So yeah, it seems you are buttmad-blind. Maybe go get some sunshine and fresh air as it may stop you spewing this sort of shit.

[1] there are many examples of shitty pathing and combat unit "stickiness" in PS:T, plus the problem of combat units not attacking when you clicked on the enemy, even if the path to them was visibly unobstructed. What happened was, TNO or ally would just stand there waiting and only attack when the enemy closed in. This, again, is common knowledge (and true of original CD patched and current GoG version).
