This is out on consoles for Australia and New Zealand. Should be getting a lot of streams and gameplay from normal people soon. Portal and Hazard Zone look better than the main game.

I've played enough. I won the optimization lottery but overall it looks like the PC players are telling everyone to buy the console version due to how bad it runs. The flow of BF2042's main "all out war" mode is really bad. The maps are too big even for a 128 count server, you'll spend 2-3 minutes on foot between objectives only to get sniped by a pixel which is funny because that was the justification for playing Battlefield V over something like Hell Let Loose or Post Scriptum except this is much worse, at least those games have foliage. These maps are empty stretches of land and every map I've come across is a sniper's heaven. For some reason the game won't have VOIP support for another week. Operators suck my ass and ruin the game.

Good news is that Battlefield Portal is really fun if you ignore Russian soldiers speaking English and 1942 tanks having 2042's "glitching interface" during weather events. Long term I predict Portal will be the most played mode because you can create all sorts of scenarios like BC2 vs 1942 in various maps throughout the series and disable the stupid operator bullshit from the main game if you want to. I could even see them selling it standalone because BF2042 is really keeping Portal from being much more successful.

Skillup does not recommend. Ouch lol...

Between this and another "bleh" CoD, seems like Halo Infinite is a shoe in for FPS PvP multi-player crown.

Although the Halo SP campaign quality still remains to be seen.
Supposedly Halo Infinite's multiplayer is dropping on Monday unannounced. I can say that I had a lot more fun with the Halo Infinite multiplayer test I played.
Also WW3 is coming out February and that will do really well among unhappy Battlefield players.

I think Portal is a great offering and I can see myself getting the game solely for that. But only after at least a year.

Hell, I didn’t play BF4 until 4 years after release and it was great.

I'm a big fan of concept art and game design, and I was looking forward to 2042 so I dropped the extra $40 to get the art book and soundtrack, whatever right? Except the art book is literally just an open link that anyone can access, same goes for the soundtrack.

Here's the 2042 art book, free of charge.

https://media.contentapi.ea.com/con...mon/210709-kingston-book-4k-final-english.pdf

I'm just pushing the case of the dev's incompetence. How can you brush something like this over?

edit: boys i'm not asking for pity ya'll need to chill, I knew it was a waste. still stupid that it's an open link, all i'm getting at.

Damn, 100 bucks for a pdf file. Digitalization have really made devs/publishers greedy as fugg.

I played a bit on the weekend and it was actually quite fun. It runs much better than the beta especially with Ray Tracing turned off.

Launching without integrated voice support was pretty unforgivable - I had fun talking to my brother while playing on Discord but not being able to talk to the other randoms in our squad sucked. Also around 1/3 of the games we tried to join failed due to a "persistence error".

The maps are probably a bit too big but compared to Hell Let Loose they're not too bad, especially as you can call in vehicles. The loadout customisations are actually pretty versatile - each specialist gets a particular unique ability but other than that you can pick any gun/gadget loadout you want.

I tried the WW2 version of Portal and it was pretty lame to be honest - the loadouts are fixed and limited. Will be interesting to see what the community can come up with though.

Overall it has a lot of potential but like most EA releases it's pretty rough around the edges.

Yep, although the supposed release of Infinite MP today is only going to be helpful for XBOX and PC users. PS and Switch are probably shit out of luck.

Valve refunded me after 11.9 hours. Wouldn't be surprised if this is pulled from sale and Valve allows open refunds as they tend to do when a game is this broken.

They really shit the bed with this one, even compared to previous titles.

- No single-player mode
- No server browser
- No general, team, or player scoreboard, only your own squad is shown.
- No general chat, only team, squad, and party
- No VOIP
- No TDM/FFA
- No leaning/peeking out while in cover
- No score bonuses for headshots, multikills, or hit-based damage XP gain
- No persistent lobbies (back to the main menu after every match)
- No ammo pickups off dead enemies/players' kits, only obtained through specialists
- No levolution beyond the tornado, the sandstorm on the Hourglass map only hurts visibility
- No melee weapon options, though melee is completely discouraged by the bugs and low damage it yields
- No spawning in other players' passenger seats when game is about to start
- No changing teams, squads, or creating a new squad entirely. Squad bonuses, field upgrades, and drop-ins have also been removed
- No self promoting to squad leader by requesting an order
- No battle log/player stats page
- Laughable end-of-match player highlights with voice lines that make these battle-hardened soldiers fighting a global-scale proxy war act like middle schoolers
- Though the soundtrack is just as eclectic and electronic as past "modern" Battlefields, its placement is few and far between and is awkwardly sequenced throughout the match
- HUD is an absolute mess of small icons with large lettering, when an objective is capped a message takes up all of your top-screen real-estate for a good 5 seconds
- Geforce 10 series card owners, even the later released ones, good luck in even attempting to come close to a stable frame rate, as this game is far from optimized and server-end latency is common
- Weapon bloom (randomized spreading of shots) only helps bad players and hurts good ones
- Buildings are not as destructible as previous Battlefield games, rarely will you ever see a collapsed building or create tactical cover through destroying chunks of walls or terrain
- Crouch sprinting, being prone while on your back, and being knocked down from explosions from Battlefield V have been removed
- Reworked class system into hero shooter-like character select
- Can never gauge what height you can and can't climb over
- Customization has nowhere near the depth of Battlefield 4, 1, and V
- Only 19 primary weapons and 3 sidearms-- 4 assault rifles, 4 SMGs, 2 LMGs, 6 rifles, and 3 shotguns
- Shotguns are completely unnecessary as close-quarters combat is never emphasized
- 14 different vehicle types to make up for the maps' large sizes, though you are at the whim of availability and demand, so traversing the maps a majority of the time involves walking great distances for small rewards
- Tarkov-like "Hazard Zone" mode where matchmaking lasts 3+ minutes and crossplay is all but required due to PC's player base

So much of this just makes me wonder why in the hell they're removing features that already exist. Maybe they're trying to dumb it down? But then there's stuff like this:

No persistent lobbies (back to the main menu after every match)

That's gotta be just infuriating. If nothing else, the waste of time making you get into another match is inexcusable. Who would think this was a good idea?

Weapon bloom (randomized spreading of shots) only helps bad players and hurts good ones

Wait, forget everything I said. They finally made a Battlefield game with me in mind!

Every Battlefield game I can remember has been buggy as hell at launch.

I'm sure after only a couple of years of patches and updates this game will be fun.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I was never a fan of BF, but I got into 1 and 5 late in their lifecycle and I bloody loved them. 1 had impeccable atmosphere, every match never felt the same. 5 had crisp movement and gunplay, playing tank hunter was fun as hell.

I booted up 2042 and... it felt 5 years older than BF5. Where's crouch sprinting, where's mantling up head level ledges, where's rolling upon dropping on the ground, where's getting knocked down by explosion, even the sprint-to-prone animation doesn't feel as smooth. The guns are inaccurate as shit. I dumped 3 recoilless M5 rounds into a hovercraft but it still managed to annihilate me in 2 shots afterward. Also what on earth is "vehicle part destroyed +10 XP"? What does this even mean? Where on earth is the damage score? The game doesn't even tell you the distance of your sniping kill shot.

I dunno which audience they tried to appeal to, since a fucking casual like me who had less than 100 hours in all BF games combined is also irritated by all the missing features in this game.

been keeping an eye on this; i have some nostalgia for 1942/BF2, haven't played any of the latest ones.. some of the portal servers look interesting, there's a decent amount of customization and tweaking available, but it does leave a lot to be desired. a lot of things being binary options shows how little thought was put into it, with zero HUD good luck quickly distinguishing friendlies with FF on, or if you get into a jet or tank for example

this guy has the right idea, no superheroes or loner sniper cancer etc. in this server, mainly grunts with rifles who need to work together (something like HLL recon/armor squad limits would be preferable though not possible atm)

for now, think i'll stick with hell let loose and sandstorm when i wanna pop some moles with bros

From my understanding, it looks like the game was originally rumored to be a battle-royal type of game. But then again it got changed somewhere midway in development to try to go back to the more traditional BF game.

If that is the case, then they definitely should've delayed it until late next year.

I guess that would explain it. You'd want to rip out a lot of those minor features for a battle royale game and there wouldn't be any difference between servers so there would be no need to browse for one.
