Sometimes the game just loves you. Day 160, randomly recruit a thief in a fishing village. He came with three stars in melee attack, 2 stars in melee defense and one star in initiative. Hello future mister nimble riposte bot duelist!

I get 3 stars melee attack/defense/initiative with high base thief. In my recent gameplay.
He'll die in your first battle FYI.
This happen exactly.

It's some kind of irony - I had plenty of great talented guys taken away by an axe in their first battle, but there is one brother who "died" two times already, has reduced meele/range skill due to some arm problem and hp limited to 30%, I even gave him a name "Fodder" just to be sure he is first to go. No, this SoB just don't want to die, he is already lvl 8th and not even close to be decend... Next time I will send him naked with a knife and... he will probably kill 6 enemies with that and advance next level. Fucker.

Had the same thing - got a beggar with shit stats, named him "fodder" immediately but he just won't fucking die. He's level 12 currently.

I had naked guys survive 10+ arrows from brigand marksmen only to get struck down, you can't even relieve your payroll properly these days.

If a sacrifice reaches level 6, he is relieved of his sacrifice status and won't be sent on suicide trips any more. Never happened, though. But one is level 4 now :o

Btw... what's the point of war brands?
I just find all other 2H weapons better in points of damage (and/or reach). They are like a somewhat better sword with a roundhouse kick slash functionality you'll never use anyway (since that would mean sacrificing the bro).
Sure, you could do some master plan involving rotation and/or switching to shield quickly via that trait but... that's really a bit too gamey for me.

Also with warbrands(and 2h swords in general) you can hit twice per turn if you don't move which if I'm not mistakend you can't do with other 2H weapons!

You can only hit 2 times with a greatsword (6AP) if you have 'berserk' and kill someone, with the warbrand you get two regular attacks (4AP), +1with berserk.

They also count as swords, so your greatsword Bros could swith from GS to warbrand if you fight lightly armored foes like Goblins or Nachzehrers.

Okay, I think I'm officially getting bored with this. Had a quite a lot of entertainment from it, but I haven't discovered any cool new tactics lately and it's just starting to feel like a grind. And I haven't even made it to the endgame crisis yet.

Might start one more non-Ironman campaign with that goal.

Also feeling the grind. This greenskin war just won't end and if I have to fight another pack of goblin riders I will impale myself on my noble sword. I still don't get their output damage to be honest. When they poke at my guys they sunder armor, do health damage, and their wolves seem to be incredible tough as well.

Of course. I refuse to let go. I will see this to the bitter end and that end will come soon. I have been sloppy and losing men to the left and right :)

The save doesn't seem to be that messed up. I can still see the complete map and I got some extra renown from the ambition restart.

I agree with an earlier comment you did, the game is much more tense in the beginning.

Well I am around 900 hours and to be truth that game was always grind.
Its fun in early stage when anybody can die but you can get replacements easily and the fight is fast and brutal but late its meh.
It was more fun in early builds when you could go crazy with OP build and when you actually could affect the world by your actions.
I do not understood how people can play on default speed and not die from boredom.
Gods bless the chap who recommended me a Cheat Engine.
Its still good game but its collectors game(items and recruits) and grind.
There is no living world at all.
I think its because of game design. OverHype(actually its fitting name as its more hype than anything) make combat engine first and then they build game around it. So player is the only actor and world is only decoration. Nothing is permanent(all enemies are randomly generated), there is no real mechanics, no real economy or politics.
They should make world first and then throw a player inside it.
Well i still have a blast with this game, it go better when I stop expecting anything great.
Its good game and its the type of game that I always want but well its not great and mechanically everything outside combat is subpar. And even combat have weak points(like LoS and ranged combat).

Saw all the enemies: defeated all the combinations: the lack of an X-com-like dynamic campaign makes everything else rather moot. Sure, I could suicide my company against the Black Monolith but I don't see why I should. It's a fun little game, but it needs more work and spit to shine (at least 2-3 extra enemy factions, lategame enemies - yes, something even worse than Necrosavants and Warlords - a more "vibrant" world and better maps).

Just think how Forest\Swamp maps are already an amusing variation: we need fortresses and the like.

It's still a very good combat engine.

I did one Veteran campaign to Legendary renown and one Expert, doing noble war and greenskins. Kinda had enough too, cba seeing the undead crisis or beating the monolith.

So, I got a mission and I have to lure out a greenskin warlord. Will this be the end mission to end the war? Because... I can't take it any more. I have vanquished so many orcs and goblins now that my armors are permanently stained green.

I think some of us have so many hours ingame because you used to be unable to speed up the game (except with outside programs I guess). Travel during the beta (before the near-release version) was awful.

But yeah, game just runs out of stuff to show you or systems which get you invested long-term. That's one of those reasons I think they should have approached the game design differently and skipped some stuff like the random generation of maps etc if it cost so much development time and turned out to be a bit of a dud later on anyway with the simulation aspects gone.

It seems a game good for playing in short-ish bursts, even though it manages to give that "just one more contract" thing.
If you feel somewhat bored by it after 900 hours, well, can't really hold that against it, imo...
Although I would make sure to get 437 more hours just to be sure.

In early access various rules and even the degree of simulation (as in, there used to be one) on the map changed quite often. New item tiers were added, uniques, constantly changing perks etc.
That caused folks to constantly restart their company and try the new stuff, new builds... That plus the travel time = lotsa hours.
Release build is quite different in that regard, but maybe they will add more stuff.
