Baba Yaga fight was fun, hardest boss so far
Magic Missile made the fight trivial for me. Just pop her illusions in one volley, silence the real one and wail on her. Easiest boss fight ever.

Even did it twice when I learned you have to get her to about 15 HP and wait for her turn. First time around I smashed her so hard she didn't even get a chance to speak.

Yeah certain spells fucking shit on this boss, another example is I think Witch Bolt tracks her through her illusion thingy so you always know which one is the real one

This is gonna be a lame normie question but I don't give a fuck, I don't play DnD ok.

Every build video I've seen always talks about "five three split barb wiz" and "eleven fucking fifty split whoremonger hentai master". Multiclassing? I'm about 40 hours in this game and I haven't seen anything pointing to multiclassing. Why should I do it and also how? The fuck? Levelling is mostly automatic, I just press the button and something awesome happens. How do I "split" my character?
Real AD&D doesn't have the same kind (and real D&D doesn't have any) of the "multi-classing" that exists in "D&D 3rd edition" onward, where a player-character, upon gaining a level, can instantly take a "level" in a different character class without any justification, allowing for ridiculously overpowered combinations. This is one of a dozen or so major exploits in Baldur's Gate 3, if you have a desperate urge to make the combat easier.

Yea, my first run is on Normal and I go through the game p. smoothly, without multiclassing or even respeccing (altho I will be respeccing Shadowheart today, who the fuck designed her attribute distribution? All she does in fights is cast Bless, miss a Guiding Bolt, then die. I might actually multiclass her, probably into a Pally so that she doesn't feel as useless).
Upon reaching 5th level, clerics gain access to 3rd level spells including spirit guardians, which creates an area-of-effect circle of damage around the cleric that lasts for a number of rounds (though requiring concentration). Even in Solasta, this spell was extremely powerful, and BG3 strengthened it by having damage applied at any time during the cleric's turn, so that the cleric can run around each round inflicting damage on as many enemies as possible; great against a large number of weaker enemies and useful in nearly every non-trivial fight. Granted, this still leaves 5th-level clerics underpowered relative to a fighter/paladin/barbarian/ranger/whatever who receives an extra attack each round, and also relative to a mage who can immediately cast three fireballs haste in three non-trivial combats between long rests, thereby increasing the attacks per round of the fighter/paladin/barbarian/ranger/whatever to four accompanied by longer movement and an AC bonus.

I've played with multiclassing yesterday for a few hours, one disadvantage that I see is there are some great benefits (more feats, more attacks, ridiculous spells and abilities) you get on higher levels (8+) and you'll never reach those if you split your character in three or more classes.

That said my party is now all multiclassed and I'm only now realising how derpy my play was up until now. It also shows how easy the game is on Normal when I was blasting through most encounters even with my lolcow, anti-optimized default party.

Should've gone with Tactician right away, thing is I did it in DOS2 on launch and it was absolutely brutal (later nerfed). Clearly Larian notably softened since then.

1st and 2nd Ed multiclass characters are more powerful than whatever combination 3.x could come up with (well, other than the infamous Pun-Pun or insane (story/lore-wise) stuff like the Twice Betrayer of Shar). Certain dual-classes are even more psycho than that. BG is on 2nd Ed rules and dual is bad enough. In 1st Ed (e.g., Gold Box), you can be a Paladin/Mage or Ranger/Mage dual, and the latter allows you to cast in armour.

3.x is only bad when multi-classing if you allow certain dual progression prestige classes (which are uniformly from splat books). Whatever that is in the DMG only isn't bad at all (it is the items that fuck things over in Core 3.x rules).

Feats are a real consideration when multiclassing. But you're not loosing out on them if you take classes in increments of 4 (for example 8 levels in a martial class for Extra Attack and 2 Feats + 4 levels in another class).
Extra Attack comes at 5.

"Ridiculous spells and abilities" vary from class to class. Not all get awesome high-level stuff. Like a Warlock arguably gets his best spell at level 5 (stackable bound weapon Extra Attack too).
Thiefs and Assassins don't get great stuff past level 3. Barbs, Paladins, Rangers will often also benefit more from multiclassing, then staying pure - once they get the Extra Attack. Same deal with Sword Bards.

I mean it's not really neccessary anyway, I was just damaging the illusions and it was going fine, so it didn't even occur to me to come up with some trick.

Game's way too easy and it's a bummer.

Yeah now that I've gotten some levels, I understand why everyone is multiclassing when the game is already easy. Some classes, especially martial classes, are incredibly frontloaded.

In Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, whether 1st or 2nd edition, humans are prohibited from multi-classing (as opposed to dual-classing), and the powerful multi-class combinations have the severe drawback of being limited to elves (or half-elves). :M

Nothing wrong with multi-classing, but with Pathfinder or Pillows, you're multclassing to find cool and unusal builds. Here you're multclassing because frontloading makes it kinda FOMO to stay single class . I just hit 6 (Nere fight, cool boss) and Wizard and Bard are fine, but seeing what Astarion and Karlach get was very limpdick moment lol.

multiclassing in bg3 is literally cheating. When I Mult classed Astarian into a mage, I felt worse than using the mod that gives me 12 levels at the beginning of the game becaauise I know for a FACT astarian never went to wizard school

Eh, actually a Barb is not terrible. But a lot depends on archetype (Wildheart Tiger who attacks 3 enemies with each strike and has huge jump distance rocks, Berserkers make very strong throw barbs) and of course, the multiclassing alternative is still stronger.

Meet Jaheira.
Get excited as fuck.
Dialogue hypes her up as a legendary aventurer.
Suddenly some niggas attack and turns out she's so useless in a fight I have to keep healing her.

GG Swen way to ruin nostalgia moment.

She is old.
Legendary hero stays legendary or nothing.

You cannot put Jaheira and Minsc in the game and then make them just "meh".
I'm waiting the moment I can add Minsc to the party but I already know he sucks.

That's stupid.

Edit: but it's a great game nontheless.

Or at least give her a buff for that one opening fight. Ddoesn't have to be OP as a companion, but give the old gal a big entrance for christ sake. Must have been confusing to new players too because of all that introduction, Karlach fangirling all over like she's just met the Beatles.

Crispy can educate you about the downsides of being old.

It's a good thing Gnomes can do it too except it's even better because they can be illusionist multiclasses.
