... Please tell me this is a joke and pride parades in Waterdeep are not actually canon. At this point I honestly don't know anymore.

This is why I say none of the rules matter anymore. 5E is already a tranny larp.
This is what your money spent on BG3 is supporting.

Jesus fucking christ, I knew WotC went to shit, but I really didn't think it was THAT bad. What's next, BLM protests in Baldur's Gate?
Drow lives matter protests would be interesting.

Yeah, this is a problem with Nu D&D.

You can't have bigoted cultures, which means that no one is oppressed. But all the races, classes and characters with muh oppression baked into them are still oppressed somehow.

>Oh, woe is me, a poor misunderstood, oppressed Lawful Good Drow Warlock/Paladin...
>What city was I born in, you ask? Uh... Some bad one that doesn't exist anymore. And also some random hillbillies were mean to me the other day. You can't meet them though.

There really aren't a lot of good arguments against magically nuking the underdark.

Also, D&D worldbuilding has always been weak, but changing evil creatures to make them less evil... what's the point of adventuring anymore? Nobody fights wars or enslaves peasants or generally does anything unacceptable to modern society.

Why even fucking have this medieval shit-flavored fantasy if everything is two shades away from being an utopia?

In 2E, nuking the underdark would be like commiting suicide. It's in fact a blessing all that nasty shit is kept away from you by being down there. Nowadays though Illithids are migrants or something and we should all welcome them into our homes.

Drow lives matter protests would be interesting.
Funny that you bring that up, drow are actually TERFs, and their lives very definitely DON'T matter.

So basically drow would be pretty based if they weren't matriarchal.

It's definitely funny they chose that angle to metaphorically virtue signal now, since drow used to be a feminist "own" of normal proles. Very bizarre. They can't even keep track of their old perversions.

The point of modern DnD is to go to generic dungeons and beat generic bad dudes while making sure that nobody feels uncomfortable at any point. You know like all these Marvel movies and shit. I'm surprised nobody started bitching about Ilithids being too "rapy".

You don't get it, that is why they've made this decision. No matter how much they virtue signal, they want to keep the setting mostly as is, so it can remain recognizable. Not all orcs are evil, that would be racist, but most orcs encountered will still be evil raiders that can be killed without remorse. Of course, not all drow are evil, but the drow that form the power structures of Menzoberranzan have to be, so they can be killed without remorse, that's what they're there for. The goal is not to redeem these drow and paint them as misunderstood feminist role models, but to affirm that they're scum. So now they're transphobic bigots.
It's really perfectly logical.

What's wrong with simply painting the drow leaders as leadership of different country and try to stop it to prevent the other country to be too powerful.

I think they need to add some third axis. Criminals ---- Leaders who can keep a country stable and prosperous.

I guess sacrificing babies to a spider demon wasn't evil enough to them. Makes sense. Feminists love abortion.

Regardless though, this is just a cope. As you said:
Of course, not all drow are evil, but the drow that form the power structures of Menzoberranzan have to be
It shifts racial traits to SYSTEMIC (sound familiar?) traits.

Like in modern SJW philosophy, it's never the race that's the problem (unless that race is white) it's the system.

So any adventurer is really just a social justice warrior, fighting to change societies or other power structures.

And as more and more power structures are said to be too "problematic", these systems will become more and more pushed to the side.

Drow are evil > most Drow are evil > most Drow are good, it's just the Underdark societies > not all Underdark Societies are evil > only this one society over here is evil...maybe. > actually, it's just this one villain and zher followers, who thankfully are very few.

It's a slippery slope we're already most of the way down.

I thought the problem was not they were evil, but that they did slavery raid to surface. Killing slavers and rescuiing theirs friend that tried to help with totally evil plot that was interrupted by drow attack is a noble goal for everyone. Helped by your favorite wraith...

You have problems with Eilistraee too? Was Neverwinter Nights 1 part of that nefarious agenda as well?
Yes. Everything after TSR was.

And before that, there was still corruption from R. A. Salvatore's Mary Sue books.

Like I said, it was all a decline from the original vision of the Drow to whatever liberals could stomach, which becomes less and less with time. Especially now that Hasbro has fully committed themselves to the LGBT agenda.

But, again, it's funny that murdering babies and sacrificing them to a demon doesn't bother liberals at all. Just the idea that the race that's practiced it for thousands of years might be almost entirely evil.

I've seen headcannons that had it that Eilistraee was just Lolth drawing out the unfaithful so they could be identified and culled.

I much prefer that thought.
