Okay, so in NG+, I realized after eyeballing the Harris rifles that stagger/impact is kind of the real way to deal damage in this game.

I still have something that more or less suits my playstyle, but with more impact. I've switched to the orbit back launchers, which have much more consistent damage than the drones. Looking for the bullet orbit launchers next for more consistent impact damage.

Everything is literally a joke at this point, oneshot Balteus without dodging a single thing just by equipping the dual microwave guns to burn the shield and dual shoulder needle guns to eat half his health bar every stun. I see now why people are "herkaderk DPS" building to get around the fight mechanics. Another reason why a lot of the boss fights in this game are actually horseshit and why some of the core mechanics actually hurt the build variety in this game. If you play a whooshy boi with pews, this boss is very challenging. If you equip golden ticket guns, he's an absolute fucking joke. This game needs less bosses like this, and more AC fights.

For example:

I'll see how it is once I get to spider again. I'm going to try my kinetic rifle spam build instead of dual plasma/10x missiles like I did the first time (barely).

Tank treads aren't actually that important, recoil doesn't seem to be that big of a penalty on boss fights, apparently it's common for jump builds to cheese recoil when in the air to remain airborne and recharge their boost meters.

The basic cycle is to stagger opponent + blast the shit out of them at point blank with big chonky guns. I don't like the stun/stagger mechanic, there I said it. It's cheese when combined with the WTF bazookas. Big bazookas and rockets were kinda better designed when you had to manually aim them instead of getting free nuke hits from stagger with big damage multipliers. I wanted to avoid this playstyle and I paid the price during boss encounters. I also don't like the fact that this game rewards being a tank retard with gatling guns that facerushes directly into your opponent.

Lol I refused to kill a guy and someone tried to kill me saying that I was an oathbreaker. It was interesting and mind you this was a side mission. This is related to the mission -
  1. Eliminate V.VII
That encounter is peculiar. There is even more details from V.VII if you approach him slowly, while walking.

The campaign needed more stuff like this. I’ve done the full ng++ cycle and it’s easily my goty, I really love it. My biggest criticism is that they could have done a lot more with mission variance and C&C just like this. Having to go through the usual bosses with no real change was annoying, but I loved the changes when I encountered them. I feel like FROM held back a bit, but hopefully the success will encourage them to go all out next time.

Agreed so far (just killed volcano bot, still early). The AC fights feel great, the bossfights' spectacle is cool and all but gameplay wise they have been pretty meh. It could be that I just suck but so far going brainless has worked better than actually engaging with their second phases.
AC fights: cool anime shit dashing around, in and out, zoning, positioning, pressure, the works.
Boss fights: Find way to stagger >>> stagger > DPS > stagger > DPS > winner!
I'm just hoping there will be more AC fights as the game goes on, that'd relieve much of this "problem" for me.

This game is definitely slick as shit. Yes there's a lot more that could have been done, especially with missions (and some of the stuff missing form past AC games all though that can be remedied with an expansion, which apparently is standard practice in this series anyway), but once you start mastering the combat it's just so smooth and satisfying it's like a narcotic:

Stinking spectres got what they deserved! Blew them spectres real good.

this thread makes me want to build a new HTPC. big mechs going all pacific rim on a 65" with surround sound has to be a thing of beauty.

anyone with a proper 5.1+ system: can you comment on the surround sound quality? I was pleasantly surprised by Dark Souls 1, it was easily the best surround mix I've heard in games. Avoided the amateur-hour echo shit in the likes of nuDeus-Ex, 2017's Prey, etc (those may be FOMOD games, and FOMOD sucks as a sound subsystem).

Main entry usually is bland, the expansions are where the quality comes.

Played a bunch more missions today. Currently getting my ass kicked by that second phase of Balteus fight. Must've died to that bitch over 15 times now. Nice fight though and good visual spectacle.

Got happy about performance of this game too early it seems, already had one mission where fps was dropping to 40s, the Strider fight. And few moments in other missions where it dropped to 50s for a little bit. At least it's mostly stable 60, and still overall much better performance than Elden Ring.

*edit* Works like a charm every time. I complain on Codex about getting my ass kicked by something in video game and then overcome it right after. Balteus down in two more tries. Definitely started having better time with him when I started getting more aggressive. Really enjoyed this fight, unlike that cloaked sniper faggotry in mission before this.

What's your video card?

On my 5700XT, the game goes from 60 to 80 at all times. Performance is actually better than Elden Ring.

Alright, got to the famous Balteus, and as expected, he wasn't as bad as i thought. Much like the helicopter boss, his difficulty seems to have been massively overstated:

I liked the fight very much and i look forward to see if i can do a no heal attemp or something cleaner late on, but the way people were complaining about this i expected something REALLY hard.

he didn't use his crazy flame slashes :argh:

He did. I just got underneath a couple (one straight flame attack, one downward flame swipe. Managed to get under his crotch both times) but he got me with one towards the end since i didn't expect him to just do an 180 arc right on the ground level.

nah he didn't do them, not the crazy ones, you might have staggered him out of it at the right time.

Are these the ones you are talking about?

Maybe you need to be at a distance to trigger them and since i was on his ass constantly to get sword swipes he didn't do them very often. Didn't see more than a couple in the several tries it took me to put him down (four or five i forgot, it wasn't many).

RTX 3060 12 GB. I assume drops have more to do with CPU than GPU, same as in Elden Ring open world sections. Because I tried lowering the resolution and I got the same drops in same places. My i5 8400 is only minimum recommended CPU, after all.

Could have something to do with people playing overly defensive, thanks to Souls/Elden Ring habits. This fight became way easier to me when I started being very aggressive and in his face most of the time.

Killed Smart Cleaner on 4th attempt. I am guessing I would have had way more trouble with him if I didn't happen to buy tetrapod legs just in time for this mission. I don't see how I would've been able to hit that chimney of his without the hover ability. Had to switch my left arm to a ranged weapon for this fight too. Melee seemed useless against him.

Totally doable with bipedal AC and a decent boost setup. That's how I did it. Just boosted over it when it charged me and rammed grenades down its chimney. Fun boss, and what a spectacle. Love the way the heated up grinders look in action.

Its weak point is the cockpit.

Basically you need to stagger it, then stand in front in the center, manually change your point of aim to the cockpit and launch baZOOOOOKas/gatling guns/rifle spam, blades, whatever, rinse repeat. You should be able to chew through at least 1/3 of its health every stagger. It conveniently stands there looking stupid for a few seconds each time you stagger it, giving you plenty of time to maneuver into position and unload at least twice with boomsticks.

The cockpit does slightly more damage without stagger. Hitting the chimney isn't ideal unless you're going airborne to get around the front end.

Ok looks like I'm out of steam for today, will not be killing the Sea Spider now. Getting annoyed by the fact that these handlers won't shut the fuck up during every boss fight. Since when it became acceptable to dump exposition during a tough fight anyway? I'm trying to deal with a boss, stop pissing in my ear you faggots. :argh: Especially annoying when I'm retrying the fight many times, hearing same lines over and over starts to trigger me.

It's always fun when games have dialog during combat that you have to restrain yourself from killing the bosses to quickly to see, Nier Replicant was especially bad about this plus had the added layer of encouraging you to speed through combat and movies by having achievements for killing most bosses under a given amount of time.

Wow, Infiltrate Grid 086 was an amazing mission. Scoured everything and must have still missed something as i didn't get all the logs. Got three armor pieces from chests, one dead MT with a log about drug use, and then through the radar i saw something that looked like an AC but couldn't find how to get to him.

Boss was easier than Balteus but was actually kinda fun. No achievement for it though, which was wierd:
