It's true. RPGs are about music. The rest is just a candy wrapper. A true connoisseur will grind for hours to enjoy a delightful midi tune.

I can understand that you're a little annoyed by the complaints on that here, but some do have a point. A HUGE part of what makes a game good is the atmosphere, and the music makes a good chunk of said atmosphere along with good SFX and the like. Ofcourse it's nothing that a good RPG makes, but it's still important. And some folks here do have a point that the music can get boring or annoying pretty fast, especially since it's a very repetive pattern.
It doesn't mean it's bad though, I personally like it. Just some considering to alter said patterns a bit could surely help, in my humble opinion. ;) (that made me actually register here, not sure if it's good or bad. :salute: )

The rest is superb, I already enjoyed the combat demo and am really looking forward for this.

I don't understand why some people at the Codex have such a strong negative reaction to it.

Only thing that irks me about the music is the rather loud treble strings.

CraigCWB, being a future student of computer science, I'd love to see what you're working on. Or perhaps some of your past projects. Or, see you create a nice menu system within Toque*, using Fraps and Youtube.

But really, proof of career or I'll go back to assuming you bag groceries ... Not that you need to prove yourself to me.

*AoD is in torque, yes?

Craig delivers yet again. You fanboys should be ashamed.

PS: game looks terrible for a Diablo2 clone that's been in development for 10 years.

Not at all. I don't like the music. The pattern is too repetitive and annoying.

Thanks.

Music was the only good part of Arcanum, and I actually finished it, so you might be on to something :M

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Eh, the music isn't bad, not great but not bad either. And it's not a deal-breaker anyway. The combat looks good and I'm looking forward to playing the game. Bring on Thursday. :salute:

Now AoD will be delayed for another twelve months, while VD rewrites the entire soundtrack.

What's the correspondence like between you and the composer?

I have watched the video and posted in the thread. Now I need only play the game.

No, that won't be enough. You'll need to have followed the complete development cycle and read about every change that resulted out of forum discussions or your opinion of the finished product won't be valid.

He's aware that we don't like the strings in that combat track, and that the non-combat one would need some alternate variations.

You might be confusing him if you keep using the word "strings." ;)

But no, what I meant was, what do you say to him? Are you like, "here's the general mood we're looking for, now start writing" and then he sends you stuff and you tell him what to change? Or is he more involved than that? How much does he know about the game?
