Any good metroidvania recommendations?

Thanks for the info about Aeterna Noctis, welly321. I came here today to ask somebody about it, and bam - your post is the 1st "new" one.

Also: checked the video Valestein posted and damn, it looks like HK influenced the genre heavily - everyone is making HK clones now.
A tale as old as gaming itself, remember all the Doom clones and Street Fighter 2 knock offs from way back when?

True, but nowadays games look even more same-y than ever, probably because it's easier to copy than try to do something different.

How tf are Rogue Legacy and Salt and Sanctuary metroidvanias? OP doesn't even know what a metroidvania is.

Anyways the best ones are:

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Metroid Prime
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Also Metroid Prime is getting a remaster later this year!
:bounce::bounce::bounce:
I knew my switch wasn't completely useless.

Source?

Also, what the hell ever happened to Metroid Prime 4?
Metroid Prime 4 development got scrapped a few years ago and was restarted by Retro Studios. The Metroid Prime remaster is kind of a rumor but there's alot of buzz about it if you google it.

Well, it's obviously not coming later this year if it's still not even officially confirmed yet.

Just finished getting the true ending in BM Zero, will get the sequel when it's on sale, which looks promising.

And likely will get Zero 3 along with it, which has a whip weapon to boot.

Started playing Zero 2 and it has a whip too! So i can LARP that i'm playing as a space faring Belmont driving a tank in the future.

I didn't realize these Blaster Master games were on Steam. I greatly enjoyed the NES original as a kid.

Is there a save system or are you forced to play the entire thing in one sitting like the original?

Also, I see the first one is a remake of the original Blaster Master. What about the second one? Is that a remake of Blaster Master 2 or a new game?

Yes, there's saves and Zero 2 is a unique entry unrelated to BM2 AFAIK,

Also, I am in the Cosmos area of Aeterna Noctis. This place has the most amazing artwork. It also uses super mario galaxy style planets that you have to navigate through and its just a very well designed area. I get bored of most metroidvania's after 10-15 hours. I have 40 hours in aeterna so far and I am still loving it. I cant recommend this game enough.

An oasis of love and friendship.
Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
>genre is called 'metroidvania'
>only 2 games outside of the castlevania franchise itself that have experience and rpg elements
>one is a direct 'homage' to symphony of the night (deedlit in wonder labyrinth)
>the other is by the Igarashi himself (bloodstained)

There are plenty of rpgvanias out there: Valdis Story, Infernax, Aggelos, Astalon: Tears of the Earth, Timespinner (solid gameplay marred terribly by the most disgusting homoerotic script ever put to a game which doesn't rear its ugly head until a couple hours in incase you're thinking about refunding), Chasm, Batbarian, et cetera. Granted not all of them are as deep as Bloodstained/it's inspirations.

A metric ton of Dork Souls inspired rpgvanias like Salt and Sanctuary, Vigil the Longest Night, Ender Lilies, Biomass, et cetera. Swear I played at least 10 it's souls but 2d game demos during the last 2 next fests.

You're right that some things called metroidvania rpgs aren't really one of them in that they don't feature area unlocking via new skill gains or are light on the platforming. Then there are things that are more sidescrolling rpgs than metroidvanias like Dex, Super Daryl Deluxe, Fortune Summoners, Astlibra, et cetera.

Finally someone's giving Aeterna Noctis the love it deserves. And yes, the Cosmos area is really really cool.

Enjoying HAAK quite a bit. Lots of fun upgrades keep getting thrown in even late in the game. I have some issues with it but it's fairly solid game.
I'm playing this as well.

Did you kill the Fatty?

Edit: The game clearly cannot be finished with KB + M, in fact I doubt they fully tested it.

Finished the Blaster Master Zero trilogy and am kicking myself for not having played them sooner.
Is that even a metroidvania?

I played both Bloodstained games by the same studio and they were pretty god tier.
