Star Trek is pure Sci-fi.

Well, sure. And then you get to 'Who Mourns For Adonais?'
That's just higher technology/evolution, also shown in the episode pretty much. IIRC, they destroy some device of his to beat him.
I'd compare them to the Goa'uld in Stargate. They seemed godlike to the people thousands of years ago, but were actually just technologically advanced.

Q is a bit magical though :)
The Q seem to be the most advanced race, but yeah, I get why many, including the author, could see it as magic.
There's no clear evidence of their abilities actually being magic, though.

Well, then let me partially disagree with him
With the creator of the series? Well, why not, "death of the author" is a thing.

But yeah, it's an edge case and I guess only the truly autistic people battle over it. Compared to Star Wars, Trek is hard sci-fi.
I'm definitely autistic about Trek

In that case, though, what's so 'fantasy' about Star Wars? If the Force is malleable universal energy, and beings have evolved to manipulate it, then it's explicable and therefore merely beyond our current understanding.

Reckon you're narrowing the 'fantasy' in science fantasy a bit too much.

Here is a 2 hour gameplay footage of an actual gamer....even if casual whale.

It is amusing to see him get more negative when you skip trough the video :).

holy FUCK that guy is insufferable even by streamer standards. Muted halfway through

Yeah,he is casual whale as the come,he even bought in star citizen. Still he plays decently and it could give more or less accurate representation of the gameplay.

Human ghosts.

I finally managed to fight through the constant connection and loading screen errors to play a mission. The core gameplay seems solid and very promising, but everything surrounding it is alarming. Even once you get past the technical issues, I quickly found the best way to survive combat was to simply fly away, and none of the enemies seemed to have any capacity to chase or catch me. In a game with flight and pretty cool abilities on relatively low cooldowns, you'd think that enemies would be hyper aggressive and force you to do some crazy Top Gun stuff, but there's little functional difference between grunts on the ground and the large turret emplacements the game seems to like. Hanging back and plinking away with longer range firearms seemed safer and hardly less effective.

I also had numerous issues with the UI (both in menus and during gameplay), you walk very slowly through the hub area for no discernible reason, and large enemies have shields that recharge annoyingly quickly (probably to combat hit-and-run tactics, but they did enough damage to me that playing aggressively against them didn't seem viable; it was more about waiting until I had several abilities off of cooldown to hit them with all at once). The loot seemed decent, but it's hard to tell in such a limited demo how it'll hold up long term.

The elevator pitch for this game is such a strong idea, in my opinion. An ARPG but with flight. But despite really wanting to like the concept, and feeling positively about the gunplay, abilities, and gameplay loop, the game's design seems pretty bad and the technical state the demo released in is absolutely unforgivable. Frankly, I don't think this will be the bomb people in this thread are hoping for, but rather more of a disappointment that'll just be generally crappy. The sort of game you'd play for 10-15 hours, enjoying a bit less each session until you just sort of forget about it because it never truly grabbed hold of what it could be. Maybe patches will eventually turn it into a legitimate competitor to Warframe, but it even getting that far would require it to do well financially. The first impressions the demo is giving people are doing their best to assure that won't be the case.

We already have ELEX.

Yeah, but also, Warframe is free to play. I understand this will be a B2P?

Did they fix the godawful mouse controls?
I played for about two hours last night and flying controls with a mouse + keyboard are not good but not completely unusable. The shooting feels pretty good. I assume ideally you would fly around with a controller and then shoot with mouse + keyboard which is pretty dumb. It is hard for me to have a good impression of the game though because I spent about half my time loading up missions, getting locked at 95%, then hard exiting out of the game and reloading to join the mission in progress. This is a known issue and I saw it discussed on the game's reddit page. When you are spending half your time just sitting at a blank screen it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I did not have a problem getting on to a game server for the hub area, just when I went to load a mission. If EA/Bioware wants us to free beta test the game, I think the least they could do is give us the ability to play it.

Apparently nothing about the mouse controls is fixed from the """alpha""", surprising no one with a brain.
:keepmymoney:

I tried doing the Tyrant Mine Stronghold mission this afternoon and there is an underwater section that really sucks balls playing with mouse + keyboard. You can't see and you can't steer. Eventually between the four of us we eventually got to the right place (which teleports the rest of the party) but I was just accelerating in random directions.

"Lack of text chat:"

when you decide to copy destiny 2 so hard and you copy the single worst feature of the entire game
Lack of text chat is due to the stupid new CVAA laws. In order to add something like that to the game they need to have the ability for blind people to use the chat successfully. (Text-to-speech, documented testing with disabled people, etc.)

He does good commentary videos on Star Citizen, but I have not watched him "playing" any games, and I have no intention of watching even 5 seconds of this piece of shit Bioware are puking out, so whatever...

But yea if you have some strange interest in the epic disaster of SC he does some useful stuff. (That NEEEERD voice/accent is rather grating unfortunately.)

Or some form of ascendance? I mean, it's never explained as either magic or science. Sounds like an assumption.

Good and evil are treated as forces, not characters (who?), which is subjective.

There is no definitive treatment of the force as a non-scientific phenomenon. Who says scientists have no interest in the Force, in the SW universe?

Prophecies are treated seriously by religious institutions, which is... explicable?

I hate that mention of ''alpha'' gameplay. Game is releasing in 4 weeks, yeah right that this is still in alpha.

They are simply being honest. They will release the game as alpha, they paying costumers will be the beta testers and in a couple of years the game will be completed.

I'm sorry, could you repeat that? I couldn't hear you over my disgusting vape noises
