Gotta love C64 times in Poland. There was a pirate radio station that would send a pirate signal and you could record games on cassettes :D

It... worked? Or was it just a running joke? I don't think the signal would be clear and accurate enough for a recording to actually work.

no, it never worked, and believe me, ive even tried to record from a LP.

Man... I might pick one of these up now. :D

Also the official site is rather spotty (it kept timing out for me): http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx

Check the first link for a better view of the new sexy sexy C64 pictures<3

Oh man, that's fucking beautiful.

Though, I like some of their proposed future models even better - especially the "Amiga Fantasy":

Oh man, if only that new C64 would've had a proper audio output then I'd gone with that as my new HTPC case.

I guess I'll have to stick with my original plan:

None of that flimsy plastic shit casing, the case is full on steel. And the fact that it is booted by turning a key is nice as well.

I don't like it. They just want to beat money out of nostalgic fans. I am happy I still have my C64 and Amiga1200.

True. I have a Vic 20, C 64, A2000 and an A1200, but this new one would be a hella cool little media centre PC/Emulation box.

Though I suspect it would be cheaper to just buy a broken C64 on ebay, gut it and with a bit of dremilling, fit any little ITX board yourself.

also, those Amigas are just computer cases.

Well, the old Amigas were just cases too... some of them just happend to come with Amiga MB's inside. :smug:

Hmm... I wonder how hard it would be to install my A1200 motherboard in that new "fantasy" case? ... Oh good lord, I need to go take a cold shower before I embarrass myself.

lol too funny

the new 'amiga's look like complete shit and the so called new commodore is obviously just a case.

when people say they want retro computers perhaps what they mean is a functional, quality built computer that will last the ages with a non offensive design, like the old hardware had. the closest thing were the old sun workstations before the acquisition, they're discontinued. lenovo and hp have some nice workstations but they're expensive, unlike suns which had reasonable prices.

i still have my ultra 24 (witch 2 sun 22" lcds) and will probably never get rid of it. i upgrade to that from an ibm x30, and i upgrade to that from a pentium 133

unfortunately my real commdore 64 was thrown away when i was a teenager by my mum. i really miss that machine a lot.

It worked very well for an Atari XL/XE version (they developed a special tape format especially for radio transmission), they don't bother about (c) also, thus "radio relase" of very commercial games like "Feud". Eh, "joys of communism...".

Ps. ... also, somebody should mention some amiga-only rpg games worth playing like - Perihelion, Black Crypt or Crystal Dragon.

To be fair, this comparison should only be made of games that were released on both formats when both formats were equal in processing power, which would mean any and all titles released before 1991 are disqualified. In that video, that means Gods and Lotus 3 are the only games in that video that can be fairly compared.

What I'm more curious to know is... why is Lotus 3 playing the Zool theme in-game? Both Gremlin games?

EDIT:

IIRC, Rock Star ate my Hamster and Wings are the only titles on that list not available on the PC (Wings is also Amiga-exclusive), all the others are available on the PC, and except for a few issues with graphics and sound, all the games are perfectly fine to play on the PC as well.

Yeah, the PC versions of most of those games look, sound and feel terrible. PC was good for it's own kind of thing, but where good graphics and sound were required - Amiga was the only choice. Up until it all started going 3D and requiring processing power Amigas below 4000 and/or 1200 with at least 68040 CPU upgrade didn't have. And people making software for Amiga insisted even in making it all playable on A500. So, the user base wasn't forced to upgrade and there it lost the battle.

Anyway, the comment That Unkillable cat made is completely dumb. Basically, beyond A500's supreme reign over anything in its time, you've had A1200 with fucking 14MHz 68020 wiping 386DX/40MHz ass in anything except for 3D games like Doom, Descent, Wing commander /Tie fighter etc when they started coming out. All the games shown in that video are 2D. Processing power has nothing to do with those games looking and sounding great on Amiga and shitty on PC
