I never had any hope for this game to be good but it still kind of hurts how bad it is. It's been so long since an MMORPG didn't disappoint me. Probably not since Shadowbane.

Wonder how long they're going to let these dead worlds exist before merging
median world population seems to be pretty low, ~400

I'm genuinely surprised, especially considering how pre-launch coverage the game received, that there was so much interest in the first place. It was clearly a very limited game, lacking in features and content, without any clear vision of future development or additions, that would die-off very quickly. Are normie gamers really that stupid? Or so starved for a new MMO they'll gobble up any new uncooked game-fragment off the floor?

I just don't grok it. Must be getting old(er).

Basically this. How long have people been waiting for Star Citizen, Ashes of Creation, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, and Camelot Unchained again?

I guess that makes sense. A bit like the brief rush of excitement when some of those Korean/Chinese pvp/crafting grindfests appeared in the West a while back ... and promptly turned out to be pretty rough.

I haven't seen proof but there are a few reports showing up on the forums and reddit that you can still insert images in chat. Some even claim that you can turn in quests remotely or get rewards just from hovering over a item link someone "modified".

LOL! No fucking way... for real?

Amazon Games’ New World Has Lost Almost 70% Of Its Players: Amazon Games' MMORPG is down by almost 600,000 concurrent players in under a month.

Looks like they haven't learned anything since their last failure game that's already buried and forgotten.

To be fair, comparing the highest online player peak to the average online player will always give you these sort of results.

Doesn't change the fact that it was a quick big fucking decline though, but...

On Friday, Amazon responded to the claims, saying on the New World forums that "New World is not client authoritative". According to community manager Luxendra, the New World simulation is "entirely server based." Inputs from the client are fully animated on the server, and only after the animation is complete does the information get sent back.

"We don't short cut or roughly compute this," Luxendra writes, "we do full physics detail for all such actions. Upon receiving the outcome, either hit or miss, the client will adjust its visual display to match what the server has determined. There are some client side tricks we use here to 'stretch' the animation while the client is waiting for the server answer, but the outcome is always based only on the server answer."

The rubberbanding experienced by lagging players certainly suggests that the server has authority. But why didn't that prevent the invulnerability exploit? Because of a bug apparently, which has been fixed according to Amazon.

"We did have a bug," the post continues, "in which given certain circumstances we were waiting server side on input from a client before processing through to outcomes. Combined with an intentional weapon effect that allows for brief invulnerability, this created a situation where players could reach an invulnerable state and prolong it by making the client unresponsive, even though the client has no say in damage (both damage the player creates and damage taken by the player are computed server side based on the results of physics simulation plus game rules). This was a particularly bad bug given our server based simulation, and we apologize for that. We corrected the bug in code the same day we learned about it, then tested to make sure nothing unintended came out of those changes, and published the fix immediately after that."

Images in chat? In a PVP game with the degeneracy that sort of community fosters?

How is it not 'round the clock tubgirl and kiddie porn?

I think you can only link images in the game's client folder. If you try to link something that's not there, you will crash the game to whoever touche's the fucking thing.... or something like that.

As far as I understood it, that is about linking objects (like items) in chat. The client will look for that object in the database. If you provide an objectid in the link that does not exist it will crash the client of anyone mouse hovering over it in chat.

The best part is that to report a bug in their forums, you are forced to fill this this dumb questionary, telling them how to reproduce it step-by-step, allowing every user who reads the fucking thing to learn how to exploit it.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
A lot has happened since the last two pages. Someone in Amazon Game Studios has made a terrible mistake and typed a comma instead of a period when giving out gold as compensation for the housing tax reduction leading to EVERY PLAYER IN ALL THE EUROPEAN SERVERS GETTING 300,000 GOLD INSTEAD OF 3,000. Shrewd users immediately cleared out the entire market creating a bank run and causing the in-game economy to be so irreparably fucked that AGS has rolled back the game state by SEVEN DAYS.

This is the fastest implosion of an MMO I have ever seen. Every update has made the game more broken than before. Almost every system in this game from trade to faction wars is literally broken now compared to launch. This game is a beautiful dumpster fire and I'm glad I got to enjoy it while it was fun.

It's a bit of a funny phenomenon where so many people have quit and the game being broken is so old news that the latest and greatest fuck-ups are becoming more obscure and not getting as much press as there's just so much less people who care now.

This game deserves an Internet Historian video because it has more fuckups than Fallout76

According to an early alpha tester, New World's dev team had shockingly little experience in MMOs which explains why they implemented failed systems from Ultima Online like criminal flagging.

That seems like positive to me not negative.

All those who have experience only make wow clones.
