so clicks per second and babysitting harvesters in paranoia over tactics and actually playing a game is "turned to shit".

If you're the one babysitting your harvesters instead of being the one making the opponent babysit his harvesters then you're just a shit player.

This game is pretty awesome. Just had my first MP match, USA vs USA. None of us had any idea what we were doing so we clicked on things. Shortly before timeout I found the red button for the nuke and then I won cuz the game went into timeout and my nuke killed more of his dudes!!!

Just so the people don't get a wrong idea, only ranked games are limited to 40 minutes, normal custom games can be played without any time limit.

Meh now that I played couple of games and one 4v4,game plays like wargame ,but has annoying base-building on top of it.Can't see shit on the map, colours are fucked up my team is brown and enemy light blue wtf. There is no armory ingame to see each unit's stats, actually you can't see stats at all anywhere, unless you download some user created one. Will play more ,but can't say I'm excited.Playing AoA make me want to play Wargame.

Tried it. It's OK, but it's not good enough. Still not a top-tier RTS in my opinion. As others have noted, visual cues are lacking with regards to unit differentiation and the environment. Also, the base building doesn't have much strategy to it and is mostly always the same progression of (build prerequisite building X, to build stronger building Y, to build end-game superthingy Z), although that's a flaw that's common to so many RTS's that I shouldn't be too harsh on AoA for this alone.

The fixed camera angle is unacceptable and quite a stupid design decision. Unit design is OK, but a bit meh. The POW and bank occupation mechanics are good touches from the previous games, but they're almost the only original elements here...

Oh well. RTS will stay semi-dead until Cossacks 3 for me, I guess. (Except StarCraft 2, of course, but that is it's own little universe.)

You mistake my tone, perhaps. I don't like StarCraft (although I haven't played the latest expansion), I don't play StarCraft and I don't follow StarCraft competitive play. It's just that because of South Korea, it is its own genre almost, and so it's not going to die off for a loooong time and is sadly the only relevant RTS around today.

What's wrong with Starcraft?

Best RTS game of its genre, and SC2 ain't bad either.

I was talking about StarCraft 2. Not too much wrong with the game but it's not my cup of tea. Much too exclusively micro-focussed, the campaigns/setting have gone to shit and the business model is... not the best.

StarCraft 2 is a great game. The story turned to shit and I don't care much for the more cartoony graphics, nor the excessive micro (which I guess was inevitable due to its very popular multiplayer), but the base building, unit variety and map control are all top notch. I also found myself enjoying the campaign a lot more than I did in 1 due to the larger mission variety and the mutually exclusive technology increasing both strategic depth and replayability.

Starcraft was good but I had more fun with C&C Generals. The fun factor there was just awesome! Sc1BW was second, everything else far behind, even Sc2. Some of the Red Alert games also were pretty fun with crazy units available (Kirov reporting! :D :D)

As for people in previous posts still comparing a classic RTS like AoA with RTS abortions like Wargame or whatever, go kill yourselves. Or stop comparing apples and oranges. I am sure you can find some other farmville level casual RTS to play.
