Baron questline was okay, the typical potato tryhard edgy.

The tie in between Anna-Baron-Crones (ABC) is dark and makes you wonder what the alternative would be had you defied the Crones and freed the Spirit. corvus & Jaedar did so and had to deal with entirely different consequences.

-The Children were saved.
-The Villagers were killed.
-Anna was turned into a Water Hag
-Upon learning this, the Baron hanged himself in regret

That's the quest design I like, complicated, branching, touching onto every major NPC, with many choices

and while the baron is away, his men run around raping and pillaging. You can actually go back to the fort and see and either try to stop some of it or shrug your shoulders in indifference.

Favorite line of the game so far is when Geralt tells him about the botchling and he's like, "A fuck'n what?"

So, DA:I Potato Edition it is, then.

I will defend this game from that label thanks.
The combat is far from perfect, and the controls are slightly off - but overall quality of the game lies in the better 'realized settings and writing' than Bioware's attempt at 'Heroic Grimdark'
There were no hard choices in DAI. Just a fucking power requirement to get the story moving forward and broken healing mechanic.

Is there some kind of stealth mechanics to 'lose aggro' and avoid the trash fights?

The ones that happen during the escort missions - when it's the NPC leading you to the fight and refusing to proceed until you deal with the enemies - are probably unavoidable, but the rest of them can simply be outrun, from what I am seeing.

The Baron/Crones quests are tied pretty neatly. Wonder if there is more of this in the game.

Well you saw what happened...if you walk quite a distance the enemies will just pull back and ignore you.
If it's a strong single enemy, you can Axii it and walk past it.
If it's a multi-group trash, it's better to just drop Yrden and run away while the the pursuers will get slowed down.
You can't be caught when on horse-back, unless you ride too close to a monster and overload the horse's fear meter, and then it'll throw you off it's back.

Enemies are on a short AI leash. Imagine what hilarity would ensue if you could lure them into the mostly static villages.

Setting isn't their own, but at least Sapkowski doesn't give a fuck so they can do whatever they want with it.

It does look like it has the same kind of crappy "open world" gameplay as DAI from the videos I watched, and the combat looks mediocre too.

The C&C and the quests may be better, but that's not something I care about, especially after W2 ruined W1's atmosphere completely - and this one looks similar to W2 atmosphere-wise. It is also pretty funny how closely CDPR are mimicking Bioware. W2 and W3 both followed in DA's footsteps. They may be better executed story-wise, but meh.
