Codex 2012 Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
If you recognize that most of the Codex prefers otherwise, then you should moderate accordingly to the wishes of your constituents.
Or troll them all by doing the exact opposite. Now which one of these two options sounds more like something our esteemed administration would do?

I'm 100% sure I'm not gonna bother to check the forums for every new P:E-related thread -- I just don't have time for that.
You have time to read every post in the megathreads but don't have a few seconds to browse the list of threads in CRPG Discussion? Have to say I have the opposite approach, in common with many others here (it seems).

I don't actually read every post in the megathread. I just skim through it. Couldn't be arsed to do the same for every small thread that might pop up though -- like I said I normally only check out the threads I have bookmarked.

And yes, I do recognize I am an exception compared to "many others here", which is exactly what I stated and what I don't mind at all. I mostly care about interviews and reviews anyway, and that's about it.

LundB just convinced me that CB is bad for the codex and I have decided to take to my pitchfork.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE! SLAY THE WOMAN IN HER CAVE!

edit: I also concur with VD turning the dex into an anarcho-syndicalist commune.

Do not suffer the megathread SAlover to live and all that. It's all for the good of the realm, honest.

If it wasn't, how could even fierce ideological enemies like raw be swayed?

LOL at people who thought I'd go on a crusade ITT without knowing the editor of the site agreed with me. :smug:

Seriously though, for all the whining here, I don't see anybody actually taking initiative and posting new Project Eternity or Wasteland 2 or Torment threads. Go ahead guys, nobody will stop you.

What I suspect is that most people realize that, ultimately, it would be kind of weird to have a ton of threads on the Codex for a game that isn't even out yet. The exception is if it's in a dedicated official forum for said game (like Chaos Chronicles).

Maybe the Codex could have used a Project Eternity subforum.

It's almost like this discussion is unnecessary again . . .

Infinitron doesn't like megathreads because it means he has a monopoly on what content is practically discussed and he gets tons of brofits, credit, and reputation in the process. It seems to me that before the RPG section was far more active and alive, and the news section not that much so.

Megathreads are awesome because
-I don't have to search through the forum index to find something interesting
-I only have to bookmark one thing
-I'm interested in reading everything anyone posts, so long as it's in that topic

Streamlining for forums.

So the gist I'm getting from this is demote redirect Infinitron and Crooked Bee to SA and bring back Vault Dweller.

Considering VD doesn't seem to be insane anymore, I can't see it going wrong.

Unless being a mod was what drove him insane in the first place.

I think that when posters on a forum are close to each other, and know and care what other posters are doing
If mega-threads = caring, then the Codex should be avoiding them like the plague.

In the traditional, non-megathread forum model, instead you'd have a gazillion threads:

1) So, guys, which class will you be choosing for your first playthrough of Project Eternity?
2) Ciphers vs chanters - which is better and why? Discuss!!
3) Here's why Josh Sawyer's ideas about hitting and missing are fucked up
4) Project Eternity art style - thoughts
5) Has anybody at Obsidian talked about what stats PE will have?
etc
This. This is actually better than having everything lumped in one "Project Eternity: Whatever we derped about on page 113, re-hashed because nobody remembered" thread.
Exactly. Just looking at these made-up topics makes me want to read them and see what people have to say about them.

This. 'Mega-threads' fucking suck. Yeah, I really want to scroll through 300 pages of people posting Cleve memes (they never get old), talking about themselves and their favorite posters, replying to posts from 30 pages ago, replying to posts that were from a different thread at one point, and fishing for brofists.

So the gist I'm getting from this is demote redirect Infinitron and Crooked Bee to SA and bring back Vault Dweller.

My thoughts - demote everyone except Jarl Frank and promote VD for a new National Socialist Codex regime. Remove Brofists. The Codex is turning into a pussified hugbox. We need a few good mods that will let strong-minded ladies and gentlemen enjoy quality discussion with freedom of expression. The weak can fuck off to the Watch, Bioware Social, SA, or wherever the fuck they came from. If you want an online hugbox/circlejerk, there are a million places to get that. If you want a gaming forum with omnipresent and meddling moderators, you can get that in a million places. But there is only one Codex and it should be encouraged to be itself. I haven't been here that long compared to most, but this place is like a completely different forum compared to when I first registered.

Sometimes that's kind of the point - it gets rid of the casual "drive-by posters". RPG Codex does not scale to your level, etc.

Ah, that superior posting culture that eliminates casual drive-by posters. Good job bros :greatjob:

To be honest, I think some of our "heavy users" would be more at home in IRC, rather than on a forum.

Jeez, I just tried to imagine a what a Codex IRC server would be like. I think my brain blew a fuse.

Though it would be worth it just for the watching a major accident feeling.
