I played the previous installments and even considered this one, however, a change in artistic direction on Reddit undermined my interest. Basically, I could ask whether the game is really so bland, but the fact that the thread of the second part is still updated, and this one ended in May, proves something.

They went from whimsical anime epic to tryhard angsty edgelord epic, the battle system is more convoluted but worse, avoid.

Pity. I remember Monolith Soft. During the first few years of its existence, it created many interesting, although forgotten games (Soma Bringer, for example).

Somehow, giving in to people who complain about sex (previous Xenoblade nad Twitter) ultimately leads to complete creative castration.

Finished XC3: Future Redeemed yesterday, took 28 hours to beat. The scores of this DLC are so high, it makes you think like this is a second coming of Jesus, but it's not. It's just a regular, decent 7.5/10 game getting scores elevated up due to inclusion of characters from the old games. Same as with base XC3 - they didn't do anything obviously wrong, the gameplay is pretty good, but story is a mess, combat can be clusterfuck, and some of the elements are pure decline (clear enemy camp: 0/14 units done, etc.). But, at least they did a fairly decent conclusion to the Xenoblade trilogy. First game of the series will remain as my favorite.

It's the same thing that happens to anime with lots of seasons on MAL such as Gintama. People rate the first one or two entries and bring down the overall score, but they lose interest and don't play the sequels. Only the fanboys are playing that far in and thus rating it highly without other people giving it low ratings to weigh it down.
