I am also getting many Apocalypse vibes from this, but the graphics feel far too much like they're out of some Disney/Pixar movie. However, being a PC exclusive, there's a small chance that it will actually feel like a strategy game and not some Michael Bay summer action film with aliens. Still going to wait until it's $20 on Steam and with loads of mods to even try to test it out.

That guy was a solid interviewer. He brought up all those little things I noticed in the video and had questions about too.

Yeah. I was about ready to shit when I saw those bad guys spawn out of the sky and get a free turn. Not going to happen in the actual game. Phew! Thanks for covering that, interviewer guy!

I watched it with no sound, so I can't coment on whatever's been said.

That mission looks heavily scripted. With shit appearing out of nowhere all the time.
Makes it hard to asses which bits were actually scripted, and which are actually AI being smart (nothing spectacular on this front, saw one alien blowing away cover, allowing another to charge in for the kill. An improvement nonetheless)
Mooks got dropped in by transporter and immediately scrambled for cover. Guess that's confirmed, that shitty mechanic is still in, but only slightly obfuscated.

Indeed the environment looks like shit, I guess that's the price to pay for the notably increased amount of destructables.
Looks like it's the same thing as before but with a few improvements.

They said later in real game aliens will not get free attacks after arriving to the battle

Still too action-y, camera is too close, art style is boring, music too loud.

Like EU, this is XCOM Hollywood Part Deux. A bit disappointing. Might still be fun enough for a single playthrough though.

For anyone who didn't catch on, that demo was heavily scripted, and they admitted it flat out. They wanted to show the features, not do a random mission and hope that it turned out to be a good showcase.

One thing I noticed is huge hit point bars. Either those were very high level units, or the hit point system will be way less granular than in the 2012 game. Nice.

And I noticed they didn't help as they got one shoted.

By this video we cannot really know the game will really play or play on Ironman Impossible which will be most interesting game "mode" :D

In an interview they said that the aliens will be harder. I'm fairly sure that they won't go for a more casual game especially when everyone now plays it with the Long War mod. Even they are streaming it this way on their Twitch.

So far I like what I am seing.
Procedural map generation - check
PC focus - check.
Melee - check
I could not care less about AP. 2AP combat is ok and could provide enough tactical variety to satisfy me.
The best thing so far for me is that firaxis started a close cooperation with Long War devs. They provided them with some assets already.
Demo was full of script scenes, so I can't judge how game will behave or how new mechanics will work at this stage. But I like the direction devs are going.

All I am interested in is if they expand the economic side of the game and bring meaningful UFO interception/combat.
If it's just a large ship that takes you from mission to mission, then fuck this shit.
I am better playing a heavily modded Xenonauts.

There probably won't be any UFO interception action this time around, because it makes no sense in this new guerilla setting. But i hope they'll come up with something new.

Why do assburgers harp about the 2 ap system?
ITS LIKE THE ONLY THING NUCOM DOES BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL
oh nevermind, idiotic larpers

What the hell is better about it? It's more simple? You don't have to think as much? What, did you think there were too many options in the original? Do you want your mother to hold your hand while playing?

Frankly, I think the original AP system is better in every single way but I recognize that 2 AP system is probably an easier sell.

Actually there can be interceptions still but reversed, aliens launching them fighters to ground our base and we send some fighters to stall/destroy them. Or we can intercept some of their trade/supply routes.

:retarded:

I have no problem with the 2 AP system, but the TU system isn't really the pinnacle of good game design. AP's make sense in Jagged Alliance, where you have a shit-ton of actions your mercs can perform, in X-Com you can't even go prone or gradually spend your points for higher hit chance, so it's redundant. It could be streamlined to something like 4 ponints for movement and 4 points for action, where every movement point covers a couple of meters, and different actions cost different amount of action points. This way you don't fucking have to count your moves every time you move or act, and you learn use your points more efficiently, without ending your turn with 13 useless points, when the cheapest action costs 14, because reasons.

Maybe you intercept convoys and stuff like that, to get supplies. I hope it is something like that anyway :)
