Will I enjoy Icewind Dale if the combat was my least favourite thing about Baldur's Gate?

IWD is like an old-school D&D Module - lot's of combat and loot, with a few NPCs to point you in the right direction for the next fight and a barebones town to buy and sell stuff, rest up, etc.

Personally I loved it, but if you're looking for some kind of deep, immersive role playing experience full of C & C you'll be disappointed.

How is combat that much better ? Its pretty much exactly the same just much more of it in a tighter package. Many areas are just trash mob after trash mob. Its just harder than BG1 since you cant rest as easily, but the encounter design itself is at best marginally better. Some of you make it sound as if it's combat is in an entirely different league, which it is not. Its just more of it and a bit harder.

Don't disagree with you, they are just different variant of the same combat system.

For me however, the pacing, progression and atmosphere makes the gameplay much more enjoyable than BG.
