Why the fuck is Witcher 3 #15 on the Codex top 101?

KCD was a better RPG because it provided better roleplaying opportunities, simple as.
Yes you're forced into an overall role but I never felt like I was "henry the monster-slayer" and had my entire character defined for me

tbh the witcher games are probably better if you never read the books so yeah, a lot of the choices they give you don't really make sense for geralt(or some other characters) but are put there for RPG purposes
just remembered the witcher 3 dijkstra quest and got angry, so, fuck you guys

Interesting part about game is exactly the difference between book readers and non book readers in how they shape their choices through game, second one is early book version of geralt which is much more ruthless and later version where he is much more nice due to basically changing his life.

I hate the Witcher games because of the gameplay.
Yeah, me too. The fighting is so bad, automatic selection of moves, sometimes the light attack button gives a quick slash like you might expect, other times a long vulnerable lunge, seemingly at random. For a game where the fighting is such a big part I don't understand the success of these games with such a poor combat system.

Cause rpgcodex is not actually incline. There is massive cope about it though.
RPGCodex just has some users that really are interested in digging out great but not widely known RPGs, but most users are popamole trash who insta-played Cyberprank and spent 200 hrs in Skyrim, but will never touch Prelude to Darkness, The Void, Precursors or Pathologic because "they look bad"

Less and less people play the older games and more and mor young people join the dex.

It's just natural. Most people will not vote for something they don't know. In 10 years, even if it's doubtful that the 'dex exists in this form, people will vote some new game above Witcher 3 and it will fall of. It's the nature of time.

prelude to darkness doesn't look bad at all, it looks like complete shit. but that's the not the main reason why people won't play that piece of junk, main reason being that this game is broken af.

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG in which there are no parts that are super bad. At the same time there are no parts that are absolutely amazing. Overall it is shit game. Not because it was poorly made but because there was literally nothing about it that excelled even in one area. Companions were boring aside from 1-2 yes men, story full of wonder was told in most mechanic way possible, choices and consequences barely existed and even its combat while on surface looked competent died in grazes, 2 second degens and other garbage.

This is the kind of game you can completely forget that you even played. There is nothing in it that will stay with you longer. There are no companios like Minsc that you will repeat his quotes.

At least it's still a bloody game, with a couple quests that don't witcher sense themselves to boot.

I wished Witcher 3 actually let me interact with its world some. At the core though, it's a glorified chose-your-own-adventure (plus love interest). With pretty unfun combat trying its "best" to mask that you're always following breadcrumbs to the next ten minutes of cutscene-o-rama.

The codex top whatever lists are stupid anyway, doesn't it have Planescape Torment high up? Having that glorified Lucasarts game on the list invalidates the whole thing. And if you put shit like Witchers on there then it's just a stupid populist list. May as well google bestest games evor, you will get the same list. Or ask reddit.

I'm not defending putting it on that list but at least you make your own character and you get to make SOME choices, in The Witcher you can only play as Geralt.
The Witcher will never be an RPG.

Character-defining choices can happen outside character creation, and they do in The Witcher.

Well then I guess some Call of Duty games and Telltale are RPGs because there are moral choices that can define your character differently I guess, what has the world come to.

I didn't read the whole 8 pages, mind you, but the fact that people are discussing Witcher 3 and Dark Souls when there are multiple JRPGs (aka visual novels with combat) and games like Prey and Mass Effect on that list is simply mind-boggling.

Witcher 3 is pure decline.

Honestly it fails on so many levels, and it is the embodiment of bad gaming trends choking great gaming standards which spent decades being crafted to perfection.

It shouldn't even be on the top 101, nowhere near it, never mind #15.

Codex is supposed to be monacle wearing snobbish connoisseurs.

supposed to

nowadays its full of mentally ill weaboos and more like reddit
Its the pernicious influence of the trannie porn starting in 2008. It has made the once valiant men of the Codex into sissy-hypno ravers.

Looks like you know much about it.
Care to elaborate?
How many of these movies did you watch exactly to get to that deduction?

Oh man The Void and Pathologic are obscure even here, despite being so ambitious and unique. It's a shame.
They are strange and wonderful and sometimes engaging but the real problem with both of them is that they are largely unplayable.

I am so sick of running through the city trying to evade a mob in PATHOLOGIC. That's just drab and repetitious.

So Planescape: Torment is not an RPG, because the Nameless One is already a defined character (with his own past and everything)? Bold.

Back in 2008 there used to be clearer kkkonsensuses and Codex Hivemind. Nowadays too many newfags who have nothing to offer RPG-wise joined up and you can tell many are just a bunch of kids who've never played a single classic but played and disliked Oblivion/Skyrim/FO3 so they found this place and are in for those edgy points.

It's gonna get rarer and rarer for knowledgeable oldfags to join up for the simple reason that time is moving forward and younger people replace the old. A tale as old as time. Those of us who've seen this industry from the Atari 2600 and C64 days onward, followed everything and played most classics back in their day, will slowly get replaced by people who see this stuff the same way you look at Gertie the Dinosaur today. There are adults today that hold the Wii as their childhood console, and Wii-era graphics as "the old stuff". Most of these people simply aren't wired in a way to find older graphics pleasing, and it probably has a social component attached to it as well - a 14 years old kid today will have his school creds ruined if someone sees him playing Pool of Radiance instead of today's flashy thing, which I honestly don't even know if it's still Fortnite or something else.

I don't really care. As long as there are other oldfags around with similar tastes to talk with it's fine. Codex top lists have always been flawed because they're the product of the degeneracy known as democracy. You should start getting nervous when you make a thread on the most :obviously: cRPG you can think of and no one comes to talk about it - or worse, come to make fun of its graphics. Then, it's over.
