What would you think if Larian makes Arcanum 2 next?

Oh, and the final conclusion? Muh morally gray super-sekrit villain who wants to DESTROY ALL LIFE IN THE WORLD coz muh suffering or something.
First you claim the game is too much of modernity, and now you complain that the big bad is a necromancer that came to the most radical anti-materialist conclusion after visiting all stages of the afterlife and finding tranquility only in a final death? Something that would be so sympathetic to both the Desert Fathers, and even Orthodox Christians today, Death to the World, that it became a source of heresy, with the Cathars and many others.

It absolutely wouldn't. Orthodoxy is vehemently opposed to anti-natalism and hatred of the physical body. You're confusing it with gnosticism. Which has a great deal to do with modernity.

Larian is the last developer you would want to make an Arcanum 2. They have already proven to be absolute failures when writing characters for non-human races and Arcanum very much depends on the characterization of the races within the world. Hell, they even failed to put Gnomes in BG3. The best they could do is write short humans who are pretending to be halflings LARPing as Gnomes (and failing since there's not a single turnip plantation in the game) as well as having all the races present in the game being just retextures of humans. Just imagine the abomination it would be. Tarant would be full of all sorts of races, yet they'd all just be poorly written humans at different heights. They'd even have Dark Elves living with everyone else in Tarant and they'd act exactly like everyone else. They'd likely not even realize the half-ogres are the dumb yet useful and loyal bodyguards to the ingenious Gnomes and would fail to write them as so.

Let's face it. All of Larian's games have been sarcastic parodies of crpgs. Not because they wanted to make parodies but because they couldn't do anything else. Not only is this the wrong genre for them, Arcanum would absolutely be the wrong game for them. It's probably the wrong game for all modern developers that could get a license from Activision. I doubt that even if Troika were to get back together, even they wouldn't be able to pull off a true Arcanum 2.

Oh no, they would realize exactly what the horrific gnome subplot (that goes nowhere, thanks, Troika) was about, and make sure to either ignore its existence, or completely invert it.

You're giving Larian too much credit there.

Arcanum 2 cannot be done well by any large modern developer, because it is a game that touches upon the topics of class and racial politics. In the best case scenario, developers would be forced to sanitize any and all political topics touched in the game in order to avoid a media chimpout. Worst case scenario, they'd probably try using the game as a mouthpiece to push their own political agendas instead of trying to present political topics in a more neutral fashion.

Only a relatively unknown studio capable of flying under the media radar could pull off Arcanum 2 well.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
The only person I would trust to do Arcanum any sort of justice would be Styg & Co. And even they would still not be close to what the original is. Let sleeping dogs lie, and all that.

I can see Xbox wanting to have Fallout and Arcanum reboot success like BG3 had.

I have 2 ideas, you play a hamas fighter drawn into a brutal conflict with israeli terrorists, you collect a team of ragtag fighters, tactics rpg, where every character has his strengths, some have poor eyesight and rush the tanks with explosives some are skilled with the sniper rifle

then a realistic medieval tactics game, makes basically no sense because these battles had thousands of combatants but it is what it is

Fuck no, fuck that. No need for Divinity Original Sin Arcanum edition. I actually like when sequels or even so-called spiritual successors to games actually play somewhat similar to the originals. I really don't like what they did to BG3 and I really hated Original Sin too.

Eh, if Disco Elysium, Kingdom Come: Deliverance or Hogwarts Legacy are any indication a "media chimpout" is more beneficial for your game as free advertising than it is harmful to your sales.

Wouldn't be so sure about that, KCD2 seems to be getting the DEI treatment by its own studio based on their promotion of "wide range of ethnicities". Seems like there is more money to be gained by satisfying DEI requirements than not. Of course, we will know for sure only after launch.

larian is goofy and cant replicate that melancholic/doomed version of steampunk

right now there are no studios that can produce any kind of memorable feeling or vibe in a game

Have you played Skald? It's a very atmospheric game and definitely memorable.

Dark elves are evil
Worth noting that Dark Elves in Arcanum aren't actually another race of elves, like in most universes, but a racial supremacist group of Elves.
They're not evil because they have an inherently evil nature, they're evil because they're the followers of Arronax and want to bring him back to destroy the current age of technology and put the uppity mortal races in their place.

Of course, this is pretty ironic because

They're actually puppets of Kerghan (a human) and the real Arronax regrets all the things he did.
