What RPG(s) do you really like but are too ashamed to admit on the Codex?

I really liked the crossbow animation in NWN. That's most of the reason why I played it, tbh.

I like the dueling anims, the dance of death:

NwN had some great combat animations such as parrying, blocking, etc. Notice that in BG III you are visibly hitting enemies even when you miss and NwN had this 20 years ago.

Yeah, it's somewhat odd when people say NWN hasn't aged well visually. I guess they're talking low poly-count and low-res textures (fidelity), but the anims were great.

I think JA2 sprites and ToEE meshes are the best, though. And they both have similar anims.

Corruption of Champions 1 and 2
Trials in Tainted Space
Monstergirl Quest
Anonymous Agony
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (The DLCs for that game are far superior than the base game and I kind of look forward to Fatesworn because of it)

The art direction being garbage is also a big factor, but I agree that the animations are very good.

I'm going to be boring and say FO3, TES 4 & 5. Not the best role-playing games, not the best action mechanics you can find in a game, but I had fun playing them. Good thing they have big mod collections.

Mass Effect 3. I remember getting 2 and being sorely fucking disappointed, but I played 3 with no expectations, had a fun time, and wasn't really pissed off at the ending.

I found ME3 to be decent but in general it felt like a downgrade from ME2. Aside from the horrible ending, the game improved on nothing other than some combat related mechanics. I'm not an expert on storytelling to propose a better conclusion to the story, but I'd prefer something more realistic and down to earth than the epic space magic RGB endings. ME3 didn't need multiple endings, it needed a good conclusion to Shepard's story in a way that would pave the way for future sequels in a post-reaper galaxy.

"Ashamed" is a strong word...

But I have as much hours on Skyrim as I have on Wizardry 8, or Underrail. I can have fun with a game and still understand it's not top tier in the genre it is supposed to represent. To be honest it's only fun dissecting a game on a forum - when you're playing a game if you keep trying to identify faults you're just ruining your own experience. When I'm not enjoying a game I move on. For example, I managed to tally 41 hours on Grimoire before I realised how massive of a game it is and I stopped playing because I did not want to force myself to continue and end up hating the game.

I do like to play Skyrim at times just to see the world and I know this place hates it, but there it is.
Three things made Skyrim very playable for me: the game having a strong norse-like climate, it being a sandbox and the illusion of the living world.

Skyrim has some cool mods
enderal is one of the best cRPGs made in years so anyone who disagrees with this is an idiot

Can you elaborate? I don't want to download Skyrim and a mod for it just to play some sort of wanna-be dark souls.

Closest game to it is probably gothic.

Not ashamed but I liked Amalur, Wasteland 2, MMX and will defend them until my last breath
Wasteland 2 is not nearly as bad as people on this site make it out to be.

Sure, there are dumb choices, but it's a squad-based tacticool game with some interesting set-piece combat scenarios. It's no Fallout, but it's quite decent, IMO.

Funny, when I bought the Mass Effect Collection I played through Mass Effect 1 and thought it was shit, the gameplay was clunky and the story was uninteresting, but when I played the second one I thought it was great, the game stopped pretending it was an RPG and went on a full shooter and CYOA combination, having many more interesting scenarios than the first one.

I really enjoyed Risen 3 and genuinely think it is almost as good as the other Piranha Bytes games, sadly like the first game in the series it had a shitty ending

There is nothing wrong with liking W2 or MMX. The former is just average and it isn't very hated on the Dex afaik. And MMX is a very solid game, the bad rep comes from it not being as good as (the memories of) earlier MMs (except 9). On its own it's not bad and, again, was never a reason to be ashamed on the codex.

I'm not ashamed but if i were to be ashamed of playing something the it would be wasting hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of my life playing Diablo 2 and Path of Exile on the net.

On the topic of 3rd parts of a series: I like Gothic 3 (with fan patches) and Mass Effect 3 (with all dlcs). And not ashamed at all :D

Witcher 3 too ofcourse, but it's a given.
