Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
It didn't have any problems with that quest(think I was overleved and had turrets with me), but just wanna chip in - the damage sometimes is out of this world, and it seems it mostly come from melee characters. I fear them. It's not uncommon for my guys just to get one-shotted by them right out of the blue, while I can eat bullets for days. The game also need some kind of zone of control. It's a pain when they run past my tanky guy to go after the weak sniper in the back... and there is nothing I can do to hinder it. I thought zone of control was standard nowadays anyway, so surprised it isn't in.

How about those drools though? hehe.

Well, there's the Ambush command at least.

1- Nerd Stuff can help you with several encounters, Weird Science if you plan to do a guy specced into Energy Weapons and there is a excellent armor piece that require 4 STR and 6 Weird Science if Im not mistaken. Weird Science helps you with some side quest stuff resolution.
2- Decided to do only Kiss ass this run due to my previous experience in W2, better have both if you want to tailor your way around encounters or you will have to solve some stuff through gruesome ways
3.If you have the money you get the alcohol, way of the squeezins is pretty viable
4.Nope only leadership aura radius, how strong is the buff and how much % extra rewards you will receive
5.Sure INT has uses if you are planning to do a crit fisher build but if you are going for the Skill Points its a waste of time, Luck is the superior stat like I mentioned before.
6.A joke never noticed being low on supplies all over my gameplay on ranger
7. Best -
Shotguns
Explosive weapons (Rocket Launcher)
Snipers
Submachine gun tier 7 start destroying stuff since its a spray with x10

Situational-
Energy weapons in general. Done the trick fighting the Scorpitrons

Meh- They are not complete utter shit but the best weapons outshine then.

Assault Rifles- They worked with my AP/Luck build where I could unload a cartridge depending on my luck but several other weapons done the trick better without needing that much of action
Submachine Guns (until tier 7)
Pistols - They pack a punch but lack in range, if you plan to go close combat pick a shotgun

Unknown - Because I didn't test yet
Brawling
Big Guns
Melee Weapons

So, thank you. Basing on this and other posts claiming that it becomes to easy, I've restarted on SJ.

Also switched my melee to shotguns and optimized the sniper a little (mainly changed to Sadomasochist quirk).

Plus I've also built the other 2 custom companions - one to have Leadership and nerdy abilities, the other as a Heavy/Explosives/Demolishion expert (I rather like Thunder, but she doesn't feel complete without the Pyromaniac Quirk and Toaster Repair for the bonus Fire damage Perk). Same deal Prof. Higgs - no Quirk and Toaster repair competes with the Heavy userk.

I kinda miss how tanky and strong my melee with bonus armor was :(
Guess I'll eventually hire one of the recruitable melees (or the cyborg brawler... but I kinda like blades).

So people, you had already two days to acquaintance yourself with the game, i can judge the game after few hours if its leaning into the garbage side, even if it try to camouflage itself. Is it garbage? Is it at same mediocre level as W2? Combat was worst offender in W2, how is it in W3?
Overall it more or less feels the same, combat is a bit better or rather... funnier. Set SJ difficulty and you'll have to min max your dudes in order to progress just like in Underrail although here it's a way easier thing to do. Systems are exploitable as shit and you can have first turn with all your squad most of the time, it's a breeze.

Tried to get into a building using lockpicking and I'm interrupted by some schmuck telling me I'm not supposed to go in there. So I back up, throw a grenade and blow the door open. I go inside, do whatever, come back out, no objections from the schmuck. Pff.

Anyone know what the LouisianaEntertainment.gov logo in the splash screen is about? What part of InXile is based there?
Brian Fargo established a second InXile studio in New Orleans to take advantage of subsidies from Louisiana's state government and had this new team develop The Bard's Tale IV. Although that game was a commercial flop, the New Orleans studio hasn't been entirely shut down, and the presence of LouisianaEntertainment.gov in the credits indicates the studio must have assisted with the development of Wasteland 3, if only to a small extent.

Would you carry on arguing with someone if they pulled out a grenade?

I was referring to the reactivity or lack thereof. And the forced interactions and scripted combat in this game: can't shoot someone because they engage you in dialogue first, can't shoot at a switch because it's too close to a named NPC and the closeness of the shot makes him turn towards you and engage you in dialogue after which combat starts and you're at a disadvantage.
In my example, everytime I tried to pick the lock, the guy would stop me. No stealth or line of sight or anything. Just "no, you can't do that". But when I blow it up, all's fine. I expected combat to ensue, especially that there were more enemies around me, but nah. Whatever.

Is every RPG going to he compared to DOS2? I thought that honour was BG3's alone.

Seriously thought I like what I'm seeing, but I've already got a pile of RPGs to play this Autumn. BG3 EA, Solasta EA, DOS2, Kingmaker new TB mode, and now Wasteland 3. I will wait a few weeks for them to iron out a bugs before buying.

Well, here it makes sense because the combat is similarly tactical. Unlike Kingmaker or let's say Deadfire, terrain is a lot more important and much more playable (I haven't seen all of Kingmaker). I don't mean just the retarded explosive red barrels, and it's not AS interactive as DOS2 (you can't haul crates or paintings or whatever to make cover / block pathways), but with the cover mechanics (and I think there is a high ground bonus), it's less of a pure stat check.

Well he probably knows it's unwise to fuck around with people who use grenades as lockpicks.

I'm very into cock and ball torture
My short review

Stuff that is better than in Wasteland 2:
- Combat itself
- enemy variety
- Build Variety (much more stuff is possible and viable)
- noncombat skills no longer just 8 kinds of lockpicking and a lot of skillchecks now have negative results when completed, leading to more interesting choices
- more interesting places
- much better writing and dialogue
- incomparably better pacing
- Story more interesting aswell
- Much better worldmap

Stuff that is worse:
- More Cringe factor, some inspiration was absolutely taken from the Borderland games
- Game is very easy, Ranger difficulty is almost too easy.
- Very buggy
- Many mechanics dont make sense, revival for example.
- Almost all simulation mechanics like water cut, wounds trivialised, ammunition needs trivialised.
- Shit UI, many shitty decisions for console players.

Stuff that is neutral:
- This is now a tactical rpg instead of a survivalish rpg. I like it but it no longer feels like discount Fallout but like something more unique.
- You gain power fast. You level at an incredible pace, going from scrap guns to photon rocket launchers in a few hours
- After 20 hours you will no longer fail skillchecks due to your 6 man team having every skill maxed out with their absurdly fast leveling

I would highly recommend it, I think it is a much more interesting game than Wasteland 2 and a considerable quality leap, even in this rough state. Also you can fuck a goat.

Been playing this for 30 hours since release, very confident that this is InXiles best game yet. And I like most of their games.

Agree with most of your points. The levelling definitely feels too fast, as I'm not even halfway through the game and have already maxed some attributes/skills. On Ranger diff. I already notice that the game is now too easy, with snipers one-shotting strong enemies even before combat properly starts. The goal is now to finish fights without any Rangers being downed, too keep things a bit interesting.

Btw: to anyone saying melee is not worth it - at the point you have strength and melee weapons maxed, you're Ranger is a tank that can take a lot of punishment, while dealing great damage, a lot of crits with the right perks and the ability to AoE stun. Also love that hacking is viable in combat, as laser turrets can hurt a lot. Add the addition of deployables (decoy, turrets, sawpups) and cybernetic utilities and you have a huge amount of options per fight.

SpaceWizardz has helpfully uploaded the covers of
the Green Acres theme and Wang Chung's Everybody Have Fun Tonight.

These are new to me, so I'm a bit disappointed that the soundtrack that came with the collector's edition wasn't comprehensive.

They never are. And because of that, it can be surprisingly hard to find the "true" soundtracks for some games (with tracks ripped directly from the game files), because everybody just uploads the MP3s from their official soundtrack and assumes the job is done.

So, the verdict is to play it on Supreme Jerk difficulty? For those who want a challenge of course.

So tax dollars might have been used for development?

I watched a few reviews. It looks pretty good. I still won't buy until way later when most of the bugs are ironed out and if add-on content is released. I do wonder what inXile's next project is.

It's bewildering that they'd leave off songs that they paid money to cover, although I suppose there may be some weird licensing deal where they have permission to have it in the game itself but not on a soundtrack. Only one song with lyrics on the official soundtrack isn't public domain.
