My Thoughts:

Please don't tie the game to Steam, at least provide people with an DRM-free alternative.

Also the "special skill/weapon" smacks of "Exclusive Pre-order
icon_evil.gif
DLC
" which leaves a bad taste.

Don't like "($50) comprehensive instruction manual" VS "($100) comprehensive instruction manual
icon_e_confused.gif
with back story
" bit.

The Soundtrack and Novella sound cool, but I hope the people who miss out can buy them later.
It would be really sad to be forced to miss out on part of the story.
(Maybe the ones that come as a Reward could be special Collectors Editions)

The "You will also receive 2 digital download copies (so you can leave your collectors edition sealed up!)" confused me.
Does this mean that people
icon_e_sad.gif
who donate less will only get Downloadable or Boxed?

Did I forget to cover any points?

why must there be a ton of options. just have:

1) 15 doolars: get game download link
2) 35 doolars: get game download link + digital version of manual (PDF) and wallpapers and shit
3) 50 doolars: get game boxed shipped to you with printed manual and cloth map, with the game as a digital download as well so you can play on launch day
4) 100 doolars: get all of the above + thank you credits and some frozen semen from Fargo that you can incubate your (future) wife with in case you have weak genes or you're impotent or something

You should always get the download, since it's included in the "previous rewards" part.
I figure it means that for the lesser versions, the downloadable version has the same key as the boxed version, so you can't play your boxed copy and give/sell the download key to someone else. With the collectors edition, you presumably could, in the event that you sell your collectors edition to some nutjob later on and he wants to activate it on steam, I guess?

Too bad the setting is not one that I like, so I will settle for a minimum fee here. If it were BG3 related i'd invest up to 2,000 usd. On conditions that I have voice in deciding the plot, setting and characters involved together with devs and other high-end investors.

You really think a scheme like that would end well?

Why not? Devs lay out the basics, then make polls, accessible to them and investors. People suggest their alternatives, cast their votes, and voila - the plot is decided. Then its given to professional writers for scriptmaking, visual specialists for visual modelling(this also needs to be chosen democratically, to insure that we wont get some childish WOW or Kingdoms of Amalur style of art direction).

100 Codexers, $50 each, statue of :rpgcodex:

get to it
I'm in. Seriously. We'll need to think of a way to coordinate this, though.
Let's create a kickstarter for this :smug:

No, seriously. The 5000$ thing comes with 30 digital copies of the game, so those could be drawn and given to those who chip in.
I dunno. We'd have to do the draw before the Kickstarter ends so that those who don't win a copy can pay an additional $15 directly to get the game. But even that kind of sucks as it'll mean 70/100 Codexers would have to pay $65 for the most basic reward. So fuck that idea. It sucks.

And when the other investors decide on a melodramatic plot and WoW artstyle, it's still made by your money - what now?:smug:

How come? As I said, devs lay out the foundations. They say - "Hey folks. This is ultra-mega-hardcore CRPG named Baldurs Gate 3, which aims to continue its predecessors feeling(storytelling, gameplay, art direction) using modern technologies. Please join in funding it.". Its safe to expect that WoWers and CoDers will be turned off from this project right away, because its "aint cool" for them, and because there are other projects more close to their expectations.

Pledge $1000 (150 max)
Previous rewards + Become an NPC, Weapon or Location in the Wasteland 2 world! We will get your name and (if relevant) a picture of you to add your general likeness to the actual shipped game. Brag to your friends and beg them not to take you out with a Meson Cannon. You’ll also receive 5 digital copies of the game and a lvl 3 Desert Ranger medal of honor limited edition collectible.

Pledge $5000 (15 max)
Previous rewards +We will build a statue in game, in your honor. After getting a picture of you, we will carefully craft this in game statue. You are now forever a part of Wasteland history. At this level, we will also sign and frame actual original concept art from the game. With 30 digital copies of Wasteland 2, you will be a hit with your friends. You will also receive a lvl 5 Desert ranger medal of honor limited edition collectible.

These could be exploited by unscrupulous fellows...

Pledge $2500 (100 max)
Previous rewards + An exploded blood sausage Wasteland limited signed and numbered collectible figurine.

Why would I want a model of a blood sausage?????

edit: "Thug explodes like a blood sausage"

Otherwise this is everything I was hoping for, in terms of packaging. Now I want to see how the game will look.

Jesus H Christ. At the very least they know how to get people to donate. I bet there are some Wasteland fans that will donate for some of the more expensive rewards. I'm a little surprised that $15 is enough to get a digital copy of the game, but I guess that's how Kickstarter works.

I rarely ever buy games anymore, but they absolutely have, at the minimum, my $15 or even $50 if they can convince me that my money is going to be part of the effort toward reversing the decline.

$15 is perfectly reasonable considering you are investing in a product sight unseen, and money up front is vastly more useful to the developer than money afterwards.

Pledge $15 (unlimited)
Copy of game free via Steam for PC. You will also get a special skill and weapon only available to those who helped fund the project.
:hmmm:

Honestly I'm more concerned with having npcs, weapons, shrines, statutes, whatever based on real people depending on what they submit their names as...

I don't see why, Wasteland is a silly setting anyway.

I don't understand this either. It'd just make me hungry if it sat next to my computer staring at me. I fucking love black pudding.

This. If I need steam to activate the game I will not donate. Maybe buy it later when a reliable crack is available. Sorry, but I draw a line for myself some time ago and steam is on the other side. Principles and such...

Otherwise, I will donate 50-100$. 100$ most likely, depends on the finalized donation chart.
