There was Knight in BG2? I'm pretty sure there is only Paladin and its kits Cavalier, Undead Hunter and İnquisitor.

After using the Google it seems there's no such class... Unlike Morrowind; Memory does play tricks after 12 years or so.... @Chaotic_Heretic You can be Evil instead and go Blackguard but this is Paladin in reverse which means you need to act as Chaotic stupid kitten kicking mustache twirling villain instead; I meant a class which fights for his personal honor and glory pussies and loot not some religious ideas. Also fighters lacks intimidation as their tagged skill WTF? :?

What happened to Knight Class from BG2? Havent seen it in any DnD game released after it and Paladin being forced to be always Lawful Stupid and goody two shoes is not valid replacement when you want to play with warrior with brain and social skills class. (which is required when leading a party BTW)

Why can't I be a corrupt lying scheming whoring Palladin? Look at all the shit the church does with raping young boys. Most frustrating enforced LARPing in cRPGs ever.

Well, in D&D God is real so...

@Commissar Draco
Well Blackguards are chaotic retards...

@Ninjerk
Well the pantheon is pretty diverse enough to have hedonistic trickster gods... whoose warrior I wanna be. Instead of goody retard or chaotic retard...
Never got into actually Rolelplaying in DnD cRPGs ( except PST and MotB) bejcause the morality mechanic sucks balls.

On this note, really hoping quest for infamy wont require the PC to be like a chaotic retard (killing and wormongering without profit.. or preventing a few good deedssothat you can backstab them later)

The problem with dump stats in RPGs is that they should not be dump stats in the first place. Not necessarily in the Josh Sawyer 'everything gives a bonus to combat, one way or another' way (although that is some solution), but that characters should be able to perform various activities using various stats.

Current paradigm of RPGs, where they are games of combat and dialogue sections mixed with one another, clearly prefers combat-oriented characters (possibly with some dialogue skills, if available in the game), making all stats which don't directly enhance combat less meaningful than the ones that do. That is why Planescape Torment was (and hopefully Tides of Numenera will be) a gem - all character stats mattered, even though they were basically dialogue-enhancing anyway. That is why Deus Ex is such a good game; JC's skills matter a lot and he can use them in many places around the game world. Arcanum and Bloodlines are two more examples, if somewhat flawed games in the first place (we miss you, Troika).

What I'd love to see is a CRPG in the vein of pen-and-paper Call of Cthulhu, focused on investigation, mystery and exploration, with a fuckton of skills determining whether your charactersw succeed in different tasks. I want to need a doctor in my party not for healing wounds but for being able to determine the cause of death of a victim we found. I want to need an arcane loremaster not for his fireball-hurling skills, but for his knowledge of the magic rituals which will allow us to follow a trail of a cult we discovered in some remote town. Someone make a game like this! Now!

Stat checks in dialogue? Admittedly there aren't many if we don't count PS:T but BG series did have a few (I can think of one based on int). There should have been lots more, but Bioware.
Making a character less effective in combat just to see some additional dialogue is strange to me.
And missing content and dialogue just to be good at combat is strange to me. What's your point? That's the whole point of C&C, isn't it?
There's no missing of anything required. Choose a class that benefits from intelligence, wisdom, and/or charisma, see those checks. Or go the other way around. But getting flavor dialogue (which is pretty much what it is in the non-Torment D&D games) is a lame incentive to give a physical-stat-oriented class a high number in mental attributes that aren't checked systematically.

I know the Codex is getting more prestigious every year and that it will soon surpass even IGN, but we should not dare try Kotaku's butthurt potential. Wat this site doesn't even have disqus for comments and they are getting a hands on demo?

Incline indeed, they finally got rid of that horrible DOF effect, though that won't save us from the unevitable 10-page long discussion about the UI :D
