3) more information regarding deep silver. what money will they get? backer money? be transparent. else you've just fucked it up big time, because guess what? they're game publishers. you have backers for QA, and you have other means to get a boxed product out there. more info or fuck off.

Isn't it obvious? They've probably offered to do all physical distribution in exchange for a percentage off of all physical units sold. Yes, that means Wasteland 2 will be sold in stores.
and yes that means a game publisher will get money when part of the pitch was 'fuck game publishers'. it doesn't matter what they do, it's what they are.

I guess by "fuck publishers" InExile meant fuck traditional publishing deals and not fuck publishers in alll situations. If this is just a distribution deal, there is no problem. I don't think Fargo is stupid to the point of letting a publisher fuck with the game at this point.

I'm pretty sure you'll see Larian signing various distribution deals, for distribution outside their home turf in Western Europe. Potatos want their Divinity boxes too.

Just be glad inXile didn't sign a distribution deal with EA, AKA the legal owners of the Wasteland IP. :smug:

Either inXile handles the physical distribution by themselves and they use their own money and time for it thus they basicly won't get the full benefit from distributing it themselves, especially as small company with limited amount of employees or they let distributor to handle the physical distribution who takes their cut which inXile would've lost anyway.

it does look rather cheap, yeah. it's a clash of so many different-looking elements. the AP counter (I assume) and the buttons around the weapon are particularly distasteful.

...means for a publisher to do business. I don't want publishers to have business. I want them to die away.
I don't thing the matter of publisers dying will be influenced by Wasteland 2 sales. Too small a fish for that.
Also if a publiser has only distribution deals and nothing else, i don't see it as bad. The other option was for Fargo to spent half a million from the backers money for physical copies, meaning smaller game. Would you prefered that?

As for only digital, that way inXile(and i expect Obsidian will do the same down the road ) would lose money. Many people still get their games at the physical store. Now if physical sales for W2 are very few, while digital significantly higher, i can see them go digital only.

I like Deep Silver, but the lack of transparency here is disturbing and dishonest. This or something similar has obviously been in the works for ages now, but apparently the folks paying for a Wasteland sequel were unworthy of knowing "The Big Picture". How pathetic.

Be reasonable. Working out all the necessary details takes quite a lot of time and effort, it's not something you can shout from the rooftops long before the deal is signed. Moreover, did you honestly expect inXile NOT to use a third-party logistics company to handle shipping and delivery on their behalf?

I wonder who is designing it, it looks like it was designed by committee (so many different ideas and visual styles mixed)... never a good thing

Oi Brother None is that a mockup UI or the UI in the engine, because it looks like the UI has been pasted over the top of a screenshot. There is such a stark difference in detail between the UI and the game.

Yes, because otherwise they would have said so instead of spending 90% of the time bashing publishers. It turns out, Fargo is a liar who is more concerned with his corporate image than he initially let on. I did smell this, to be honest, so I guess I should only care how good the game ends up. Still, I feel like we've been pandered to. It's not a good feeling.

It's all in-engine. 2D art looks different than 3D art, especially when it's all heavily WIP (this is still only alpha).

It's true that Fargo bashed publishing deals, but he has praised distribution deals before, and he's also had nothing but good words about EA, who, again, are graciously allowing him carte blanche with the Wasteland IP which they own.

So, consider if you haven't been seeing what you wanted to see.

I assume it's still not final, and leaving aside the over all look, check this shit out:

Not quite sure why so many are :butthurt: over InXile's use of Deep Silver (except that the Codex has to keep up it's reputation). I hate the thought of publishers dictating and controlling game design as much as any here but I don't see that in this situation at all. It's not a "publisher" deal but a "distribution" deal. BIG difference there. So some people would rather InXile spend several hundred thousand dollars (pure speculation on my part) and who knows how many man hours (did you see the Banner Saga KS physical goods update?) that could be used towards the game itself just to prove some point that has little to no relevance here? :?

and yes that means a game publisher will get money when part of the pitch was 'fuck game publishers'. it doesn't matter what they do, it's what they are.

Dude, you are way off on this one.

Publisher: Is often the investor. Which means they pay for the product. You must obey them since they're the Guys With The Money. Without them, you have no game, no office space, no salaries.

Distributor: inXile pays them to handle stuff they cannot handle themselves.

It was like this when Logic Artists signed, and it is like this now. You shouldn't have anything against publishers, you should have something against them being the industry kings and the ones with final creative control. That's what Fargo has been campaigning against.

Brian Fargo said "fuck meddling publishers" not "we must do everything ourselves! We also bought the office space because fuck landlords!"

Believe in Kickstarter or no, this belief that developers are lying to their consumers by hiring people to do shit for them (which is was Vault Dweller complained about with Logic Artists) is just false. Logic Artists never lied and neither did inXile. If you believe otherwise you can point me to the part of their pitch where they said "we will print the CDs ourselves and only sell the game from our own website, even though that is insane from an economic perspective and would just take resources out of the game."

I'm totally OK with Deep Silver as distributor, as long as inXile keeps their position of power and will in no way be subject to pressures. That ghastly "end turn" button, on the other hand, is a deal-breaker.

At the very least, I expect the people who raged back then to rage at least as much now :smug:

InXile kills puppies!!!

Yes, well, this is probably saving inXile hundreds of thousands of dollars and sparing them from the hassle of physical distribution. Life is full of trade-offs.

No! InXile lied in their pitch! Lying in your pitch is an unforgivable crime, worthy of beheading. Excidium will be along shortly to inform you how upset he is about this. :P

Deep Silver is for physical distribution what Steam, Origin (remember, it will be sold there too) and others are for digital. They'll all get a cut from the sales and that's it.
