Brian Fargo - We had the Wasteland video update ready to go but found some irritating grammar errors that had to be fixed. We'll update tomorrow.

Too bad, we almost had updates for all three games in the Holy Trinity of Incline on the same day.

I like the auto distribution of looted items based on presets, but the overall design leaves me unimpressed (what the hell is that screen showing off the ragdoll supposed to be??). Also the decision to use a list based inventory is a bit disappointing but not necessary a game breaker - provided that you will not carry around millions of little items taking up scrolling space.

Why the Dead State office style text?
No idea, I hope it's some kind of place holder - the UI looks disjointed as fuck - part of it is monochromatic old monitor style, part is some kind of weird screen and part an office memo. Feels weird.

Indeed. But it still looks like we're getting a quality PA crpg. ;)

Wondering about the "mishmash" of styles though. I guess they'll change it. I certainly like that the textual descriptions of items are in though. And I like the inventory "machinery" similar to Fallout, except with retro futuristic machinery of the 80's.

Uh, the size of the sniper rifle on the character model is just stupid. It is way too big and looks cartoonish because of that.

I've been through this before. The process is usually something like the five stages of grief.

  • Denial: "Is that Arial? I'm sure that's just a placeholder, this is an alpha version after all."
  • Anger: "Okay, now we're in beta. They'd better not fucking use Arial in the final version!"
  • Bargaining: *official forums* "Please, I beg of you, replace Arial with something more immersive."
  • Depression: "Holy shit, it's going to be Arial. Oh well, graphics don't matter anyway...."
  • Acceptance: "Arial's very legible and easy to read, it was probably the best choice after all."
That being said, WL2 will be fully moddable, so we've got nothing to worry about even if they do leave it in. :incline:

That doesn't look like 80's retro futurism at all. I like thematic UIs, but they're definitely harder to pull off at higher resolutions without trending towards looking like a bunch of random textures and stock photos thrown together. There needs to be more LCD numbers and raster bar text. The crude office stationery motif would work better with punch tape labels.

Well seeing how so many of the enemies in the original Wasteland look like they're torn out of a pulpy comic book or Saturday morning cartoon (though I still feel as though WL2 is coming off as a bit toned down by comparison), I was kind of hoping the UI wouldn't look like a slightly more solid state version of Fallout's. It's also hard to make any particular suggestions because 80's retro-futurism is hardly a thing by comparison to space age tech. Less brown would be a nice place to start. More greys and dark blues, plastics, I'm trying really hard to not just say "Blade Runner cyberpunk" since we see how well that's being handled by potato right now.

Oh boy managing the list inventory of four+ different characters. So many tabs to click through. [Redacted]

I hate the animation that pops up when you first open it. Give me an option to disable that along with all other superfluous animations.
