There are so many GOOD things he could do with an additional 500 000 $ and he decides for a fuckin' "social - facebook" aspect of the game? Fuck! The incline didn't last long. Remind me again for which audience did he intend W2 for? :rage:

Due to the overwhelmingly negative response to social features, Fargo will probably go on record and change the $2m level to mod tools. A lot of people will help push to reach that goal. Ironically enough, mod tools are a social feature. Roofles!

Any "social" feature is irrelevant to the core gamplay. Therefore it's a waste of resources that could be put to better use in a lot of ways. Fuck this shit.

Are there enough rage threads on the "social" topic at the official forums?

There is a thread devoted to social features in the "Must Avoid" subforum:

http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=917

Swatch! And now there isn't. Va-va-voom!

I'm sticking ALL debate into this one thread: http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=900

Why? coz there really kind of ain't nothing to debate right now. InXile will put up a new thread and poll later. Right now, without them having actually explained their ideas indepth, the amount of negative feedback is interesting, but the exact content not so much. Kind of waiting on *their* thread, TBH.

There's no need to elaborate on this feature. Anything "social" has nothing to do with the pitch that has generated all those kickstarter pledges. And that shows right now with pledges being stopped and even withdrawn.

Sure. Maybe. I mean, I expect it to be shouted down too. But just saying, I'd hold up your "hatred" effort until that thread goes up, with the ideas solidified, because that's when they'll be open to feedback moreso than now.

You know, there is no more love lost between me and facebook games than any other codexer. But the more I think about this, the more I think they just had an idea that they thought might be cool to try out. Like I mentioned in the other thread navigating games with hard puzzles and a difficult exploration component did use to be a social experience. At least for a few. So, I guess someone just came up with an idea of how to capitalize that and they included it as a gilding the lily option. Who knows, if well implemented it might actually be fun? We have a saying here in Brazil that translates to, roughly, "A scalded cat is afraid of even cold water". I know how it is to hear the wrong word after he was doing so well, but I feel the best course is to let the man explain himself and judge the idea by its own merits, not that of the buzzwords that came before it.

Shits picking back up. Seems the reasonable pledges have outstripped the shitters. Fargo needs to adress this social shit though.

Ill wait for a while more but if no clear info is given on whats going on and how the "voting of fans" will be done, im out of it.
I think they will, since they have been very upfront by now, but if in some case they dont...
Will send them a message tomorrow, see what they say.

I don't really get the hate here.
All he said was "something like in Dark Souls", basically. With an option to turn it off. Nobody will ever know it was there unless they turn it on.
Like hell I'd turn that shit on.

The whole reason he suggested is was because some people thought it'd be kind of neat. If it doesn't take longer than two days to implement, why not? It doesn't affect our game in the least.

Then again, you can argue that playing an RPG is a solitary exercise, and best kept that way, optional or not. And you can argue that just mentioning this is kind of against the spirit of this thing.

And you'd be right.

Wishful thinking.

We're all practicing wishful thinking hoping this will turn out well.
And I can understand people being worried their money is being used to fund something they didn't want...
Except... that's going to be huge. Thousands and thousands of people would like to see features others wouldn't. There's going to be a lot of trouble with Kickstarter some time because of this, unless you make it clear than fan input is minimal, or restricted to majority vote.

I have an idea, why don't use the money for what has been promised in the beginning instead of adding retarded shit?
Fargo asked money for Wasteland 2, party based, turn based, isometric, why add multiplayer?
And just to be clear, or multiplayer is done right, and this means throwing resources at it, or is done wrong, rushed shitty feature cobbled together in some way, and in this case why wasting time?
Plus, the only way to not break game balance is to have two separate games, single and multi, how many resources that would take?

Yeah it's too bad he ruined his perfect streak with announcing anything that has anything to do with "friends" and being "social" in our oldfag CRPG. For Wasteland 3 maybe but the idea of this project is to not only deliver a game like that but to prove that there is still an audience for it right down to the roots.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that lately. Brian went into this thing shouting from the rooftops 'You, the fans are MY boss!" but I'm wondering did he think only true old-school cRPG gamers and a younger generation looking for true turn-based gameplay were the only ones that would flock to his banner (I know he's not that naive as he surely remembers the Interplay forums)? Maybe those (we) are the ones who initially got it to $1M but now the Bioware/Bethesda/console players are joining in because it's the "cool thing" to do. Reading the comments board can be disheartening seeing the number of people that have never even played a Wasteland type game and hold up Fallout 3 as the apex of gaming. They have almost no idea what Wasteland was/ is and can only see a cRPG through the eyes of the crap that has been shoveled their way for well over a decade. I mean, just look at the official forums and people are actually asking for quest compasses, easy mode, no killed/ instant healed party members, more/ 3D graphics, etc, etc. etc. With all these type of "fans" how can Brian not want to add little things here and there to make these backers happy? I'm seeing so much of this type of crap from very vocal backers that I'm now wanting him to tune us all out and just stick with his original pitch idea.

Granted I'm one of the ones who at first screamed bloody murder about the whole "social" word he used in his update and want him to hear me loud and clear that I think it sounds like crap (limited info notwithstanding). However, maybe he not only needs to clarify the social aspect but also what he, and what he will not, listen to and implement based on fan/ backer input. This is all so new that no one seems to know what is going on and how this should all play out. Hopefully by the time MCA comes out with his own Kickstarter these types of questions/ issues will be better understood.

I want to believe, I really do. Something narrative, like Planescape: Torment would be a dream come true for me.
