but then why draw on the BG IP in the first place?
For the same reason they dig up any old IP, they're desperate for any amount of name recognition, no matter how minuscule.

Though, while most of D&D has been thoroughly pozzed people still have fond memories of Baldur's Gate, or have heard good things about Baldur's Gate, so the IP itself still has some value, which makes what Larian has done all the worse.
WotC approached Swen, not the other way around.

you guys vastly overestimate the people who actually played baldur's gate and aren't in a nursing home right now

And WotC’s specialty now is trashing long-established IP so just makes his point.

Look, the original BG was no Silmarillion in the first place. The D:OS games already drew heavily on the BG feel so it’s not like Larian doing BG3 is a huge departure. You could do a lot worse.

One of the best bits of Kingmaker and WoTR is the build porn. It's a pretty bold decision by Owlcat to choose to adapt a non-class based system which basically dispenses with that and use a character generation system which is instead designed to provide background information and story hooks along with some basic skills, perks and flaws.

It could lead to some really interesting reactivity in game, or it could end up as a total mess.

What do you mean by non-class based? The TTRPG looks like it's class based... but I've never played it and the only knowledge I have of any of the WH40K TTRPGs are skimming the books in a games store years ago.

Doesn't look that grim dark to me. Bright and cartoonish.

I will keep posting art as long as nomodel secondaries keep making this point.

Even the modern stuff is fairly bright.

In the era of lootboxes and microtransactions, an American complains that an RPG is too long.

Sorry, but... what?

Their games are too long. 60 hours is the rough ideal for a fully-featured RPG before expansions/DLC. There's not enough variety to justify 120+.

Frustrating thing is that they acknowledged Kingmaker was too long and said they were going to aim to make Wrath a 60 hour game, and then just blew right past that and made it just it as long anyway.

All the GW official miniature paints are bright and colourful, it's half the appeal of them. People ITT acting like it'd be better if everything looked like indeterminate grey mush.

On another note, it's like the people complaining haven't even played DOW which is colourful, grimdark, and awesome. Imo it's the best WH40K game released and I hate RTS games.

There are an number of career paths to choose from, but they mostly just adjust which skills and talents you can learn and how much characteristic upgrades cost.

You can also gain pretty much any other skill or talent outside your career path if the opportunity is there to train it during the game (these are called elite advancements).

TL;DR: The career paths are much closer to Elder Scrolls classes than d&d classes.

I don't really care about color pallet, the problem with grimdark eternal war is that there is less room for narratives and characters that relate to the human experience. That's a problem if your trying to tell an engaging story that people will relate to.

That isn't to say a story about grimdark eternal war couldn't be cool as hell in its own way if written by the right person, but we all know owlcat doesn't have the right people for that, and almost certainly wouldn't want to go in that direction anyway.

Let us know when its playable.

Did you grow to hate Owlcat, Desiderius? I know that feeling.

I didn’t choose this war - that was the trannytard community manager (sic). And the ban had nothing to do with IDPOL.

But was already disappointed with the scammy business model. Expected the usual letting the players squash bugs for free. Didn't expect them just leaving the games unfinished and ignoring the players altogether while the only people in the company who knew how to play were on to the next game.

Secondaries browse their Youtube recommendations full with Jordan Peterson, ArchWarhammer, Crowder etc. then come across a video by some nomodel impostor titled "THERE IS SOY IN 40K REEEEE", then they watch that shit and get the impression that "grimdark" somehow refers to the artstyle and the Imperium is meant to be unironic.

Is that why you came back to the 'dex?

No I came back here to talk about Chalice II. On hold for next module there since Chaos gets item-flooded midgame like D:OS II.

Currently playing TTT Wrath.

"An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded."

EDIT: Actually, also perfect for this thread and the Codex in general: "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."

There's more to Warham than space marines fighting against Orks or Tyranids. Vast majority of humans don't even know that Chaos exists and have never seen a xenos. Not everyone is a crazed lunatic in the lore. You're assuming too much based on very limited experience with the setting.

Ok, I was slightly off. Instead of being internally codenamed "Anal Sex, Fart Fetish and Feet... in SPAAACE" it's gonna be "Anal Sex, Fart Fetish, Shirtless Custodes with Oiled Muscles in Ass-less Leather Chaps and Feet... in SPAAACE".

I dunno man iv played a lot of Warhammer franchise games as well as the tabletop and I can't remember any narratives about townsfolk going about their lives or something similar. It's pretty much all death all the time.

Maybe that stuff is in the books for the hyperdorks to read but I'm not aware of it and I doubt the vast majority of people familiar with 40k are either.

I know that you are just trolling, but you actually managed to confused our resident glowie into thinking that grimdark really refer to a color palette.
