It's okay to play eroges to cope with reality and avoid putting a bullet in your head, we all go through that, just don't make it a permanent solution to loneliness.

On the Dwindling Point-and-Click Games

So I was proofreading/editing a 1990s Point-and-Click eroge to Chinese.
It occurred to me, from the perspective of writing, why Point-and-Click games are nowadays in the rarity.

1. Lots of optional/skippable writing content to do
In a traditional point-and-click, the amount of descriptive (often optional) text depends on the amount of unique elements in the scene.
So writers are in direct conflict-of-interests with those who want more scenes drawn, or even just a change of color due to day/night cycle.

Guess how many distinct optional descriptive text are there in the following example (for a different game) in the protagonist's room.

2. Decent game writers are in acute supply even before the flood of games
Writing quality in Point-and-Click games needs to hold up above, or at least alongside with, artwork.

3. New/changing gamers' genre expectations for stories with large amount of text
Gamers back then can set aside a lot more time for fewer games.
Adapt-or-perish to the current fast-food consuming market; hence removing gameplay elements to streamline/focus, thereby conforming more towards the Visual Novel genre.

4. There's more money elsewhere
One just have to land themselves in the right big companies, where good writing ability is not a prerequisite, to churn out writing.
Also, writing passion would have a greater chance to flourish in other mediums.

Side Info:
Point-and-Click wound to the extreme

Dragon Knight 4 - good luck if one wishes the ero scenes to proceed at a trot with just a click

What have been done in recent years
Only at scenes where developers intend to do so, e.g. limited areas during investigation scenes in Kara no Shoujo series

TLDR: Started appreciating Point-and-Click games when it comes to replayability due to fresh 1st reads on optional/off-the-beaten-path content that was missed on previous runs, but Point-and-Click genre has become a great risk to developers in current market.

Don't have any N1-N5s and will probably fail them, is passing language exams a precondition to produce acceptable translations?
Can check out Rance 03 Prologue/Mini translations in my signature.
And editing the eroge at a slow pace only on those necessary text along walkthrough routes and probably just for non-ero portions (quite lenient on this, just not into editing those thick-in-the-action lines).

Initially dropped game when played in Jap a long time back.
Recently, tried the Chinese translation and found story and its execution to actually be quite to my liking as a light eroge but was in dire need of an editing pass.
Decided to pick up the slack, since translation was out for a few years and I have yet to contribute anything to this esteemed ex-developer's eroges.

Kind of a neat looking room. Do they make tvs like that now days or mods for your flatscreen? Bot seeing all the cords is nice. Person loved to drink. Those cabinets and dispensers look neat.? Whats that mini-death star? A camera? A black moon table? Does evil sailor moon live here?

I really need to play the first dungeon travelers remake on the vita... but i would need to finish the visual novel first, and i don't feel like it. Is it good? After playing dating sims like Tokimeki Memorial visual novels feel bland.
I thought it was good, worth a read.
It's from like 2004, many things in it will seemed cliched. I don't think that's a bad thing, the game is honest about itself and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
I feel it takes a "balanced" approach, offering a bit of everything. Fairly down to earth, there is hardly any melodrama which I find refreshing. Hardly any contrived stuff, magic, asspulls etc just coming of age stories. You could argue that there are too many characters and writers, but I think the variety is interesting, you're pretty much bound to like a few of the many girls. For me it's Konomi, Manaka and the Himeyuris.
The absence of dating sim mechanics isn't a problem in my eyes.
The VN isn't mandatory to play DT. But many main/sub events will make a lot more sense if you're familiar with TH2 and AD.

The sequel/side story, I admit I haven't played it for long and it's still in my backlog. It gives context for two new characters. My knowledge of them is limited to the DT ingame encyclopedia that gives a quick rundown on the cast.

Only played Ace Attorney and that'll probably be all I ever play of this genre. I try and make it a rule to only play games that wouldn't make my parents disappointed in me.

Ace Attorney is up there with my favorites because it has some light adventure like gameplay. I've really been looking everywhere for more like that since plain VNs usually don't hold my interest, even the thousand-times recommended ones such as Steins;Gate.
I'd count Danganronpa as well which I guess people either love or hate, but that's over, they were smart enough to retire it before it got way too stale (and I hope I won't be eating my words about that some time in the future).
Also, Zero Escape.
Did I forget anything?
I generally don't like VNs that have poor RPG maker gameplay though, there's probably a lot of those such as Corpse Party, which unfortunately is "CP" quite way too literally..

I highly recommend both Spirit Hunter: Death Mark and NG(best played in that order). They have this extremely unique artstyle that really lends it self to the creepy atmosphere they are going for and on top of that they are very creative with the narrative and ghost designs. They are quite literary a league of their own and really the only serious downside is that they are technically part of a trilogy that has yet to conclude.

Especially the first one has been criticised for displaying female bodies in some questionable scenes. This will weird out people here. IMO those games are nothing special anyway. I'd maybe take Sakuranomori Dreamers instead, but that's full-fledged eroge and not all of it is horror.

The second game has none of that and in the first game its like 3 screens(?) at most. Really its just a typical japanese trick of contrasting sexappeal with some horrific imagery sort of like a cook adds a bit of sugar to an otherwise salty dish.
