Grab the Codex by the pussy Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Big News! We managed to break into Steam Top Wishlists today! What does that mean? It is that special moment for an Everest climber when he reaches the foot of the mountain and looks up. And the reality of the task sets in, lol.

Anyway, it is a milestone! And we could not have done it without you! Or maybe we could have, but it would've been so much more boring, right?

So tea and biscuits on us! Tomorrow we head for the summit!

Urban Strife - October 2020 Dev Update
Guess we owed you one big update

After the big announcement of our partnership with MicroProse and all the buzz in the media, yesterday we saw Urban Strife enter Steam Top Wishlists! And we want to extend you all a big THANK YOU! But there is still a lot more work to be done, so distractions aside, here's what we have been busy with in the last two months since the August update:

Character Customization
We are expanding the choices for the player avatar by adding new skins for the Asian and African races. And yes, there will be more haircuts too. A female hero is planned, also.

As for player’s apparel, we decided to add a couple of sets of tight clothing, but without going overboard. Instead you will be able to add more diversity where it counts, using various body armor pieces for that crazy post-apoc look and with the added bonus of personal protection.

Shelter (Base Upgrades)
There are about 30 base upgrades planned and currently under development. Each of them satisfies one or more shelter needs:
  • Defence
  • Electric Power
  • Food
  • Health / Hygiene
  • Morale Boosting
  • Vehicle & Vehicle Upgrades
  • Equipment & Equipment Upgrades

New Campaign Maps
Three new maps are in advanced stages of production (a new gas station, a hardware store & a motel map). Another three maps are in incipient stages. These are locations where story critical events will take place and where you will be able to influence the faction war directly, either by going against or helping the current owner.

RPG - Story
The script for the first major faction conflict is nearly done, pending gameplay testing. It follows the player while he/she is engaging in negotiations with Army and Biker factions to attack a Cultist camp in the Urban suburbs. Led by a madman, the cultists went rogue, robbing the passers-by and killing those who do not pay up.
Now a friend of the Shelter is in on their hitlist and you cannot sit on the side-lines anymore. You can confront them alone or befriend the bikers or the army patrol in the nearby sectors. With a bit of legwork, you might get under their skin. And being their buddy comes with several advantages, specific to each faction.

RPG – Dialogue system
Some of the NPCs that can be recruited in the player’s party already belong to a faction, as part of their biography. This means that engaging in dialogue with them as a speaker gives an affinity bonus if the target is of the same faction. We have modified the dialogue system to allow any member of the player’s party to be the speaker and have his/her personal bio and skills influence the outcome. Even if the dialogue has been initiated by another NPC, if a party member has a faction affinity and is in proximity, he/she can intervene in the dialogue flow and take over.

Body Armour
We have introduced body armour, an element very much needed to balance the combat, especially when high powered guns come into play. The armour comes with specific resistances to bullet, blunt and slash damage and varies in quality, with options such as additional throw-away plates that you can loot and/or manufacture.

Cripple Effects, Pain & Bleeding
We are separating global health from body parts health, so that a damaged limb will cripple a person while not severely affecting their overall health (the logic being that people have survived losing a limb, but losing the torso is pretty much game over).

Another notable change is that all damages are getting linked to an internal pain meter. This way, a freshly wounded character will have some penalties in combat. Gone are the days when the last enemy will take you down with his very last HP left.

Finally, bleeding & heals are receiving an update. You will need to bandage each source of bleeding and doing this will start the process to recover health over time. How fast or how slow you regain full health depends both on the severity of the wounds, your perks but also on how advanced the medical treatment is. For example, a sterile bandage is the slowest boost to health regen, while receiving medical aid from a qualified nurse/medic equipped with a medkit is one of the fastest way to get on your feet.

UNTIL NEXT TIME!

PS: Thank you for the continued support and if you have made it this far down the text, why not add Urban Strife to your wishlist? And get more people to do it, it really helps!

"Magazines stacked as armor plates" reminded me of that one situation in the TV show (or was it a movie?) about a prison where an inmate (or an undercover cop posing as one) used a few books and a tape to create a shank-proof vest.

Is a west just HP or armor increase, or does it actually stop bullets/slashing based on location? Like it has no effect on being shot in the arm, but a chest shot might get absorbed?

Vest and the plates inside it protect the torso and just the torso, of course. Limbs have independent HP meters. If you get shot in the arm you will get a crippled arm, bleeding, pain (which is a new factor), but it won't mess up your main HP/life cause except an artery, there are no vital organs inside. Also the body armor comes with specific slash/blunt/bullet protection factors so the type of plates or "plates" you're using will heavily influence that.

For the next big dev update we have a detailed injury/sickness/pain/healing FAQ we would like to put forward. Hopefully it will do a better job at explaining the mechanics behind all this.

PS: With real ballistics wouldn't work otherwise. I mean it is REAL SIMULATION inside there - like if your man sits sideways vs the incoming bullet, he'll take the damage in the arm before torso is affected. If the bullet is powerful enough, it will get right through his torso and his both arms, too. Assuming of course he wasn't waving them around.

Can you replace one of your men's broken/injured arms with a zombie arm to see what happens? That was done in Zombi Nazis 2, but that's probably a thing not serious enough for this game. Except for future DLC, I suppose.

How would a putrid, rotted piece of zombie flesh and bones would be better than a normal hand? Imagine all the awkward moments of the thing falling off:

"Hey, let's not give John Doe the .50 BMG today guys, I am sick of tired of having to look all over for his arm..."
or
"Guys... guys! It's me Johnny... in the outhouse! Could one of you bring me a fishing rod or something? I was wiping my arse with the wrong hand again and it kinda fell in..."

Talking about things putrid and rotten - is there a chance for a zombie to infect you with a potentially lethal disease (you get weaker and weaker until you literally can't do anything) if they manage to inflict a flesh wound on you (break the skin) and you don't treat it with alcohol and such?

We will have a showcase of the health systems soon. They're quite complex, that's all I can say.

Since it's a zombie game, has it been mentioned if you can catch the Z-Virus? If so, are there in-game ways to delay the inevitable transformation into an undead, or is it a certain and quick end for the infected unit? Dead State had the use of antibiotics to delay the infection for a while (until/if you ran out of supplies), I'm not sure if anything about it has been mentioned. The Rebuild series had units potentially immune to the virus (although the third game was the weakest and showed signs of PC-friendly corruption).

Dr. Henderson, the Shelter's eminent medic, has been working on a treatment for the virus with some degree of success (you will get to know about this pretty soon in the story so it's not a major spoiler). So if you bring your people back to the clinic in time, he can stop the infection from spreading. If you don't... guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, no?

The whole virus and the work on a cure are very much tied into the story, so I won't spoil it for you.

To be honest, I'm pretty tired of the pandemic trope right now - we've seen the "oh no someone's infected" story a million times, nothing new to be squeezed out of it. That said, it is a staple of the genre and the gameplay doesn't sound too bad. I like that you can spend 500g at the temple and stop worrying about it.

I didn't mean "infected" as "getting the zombie virus". I meant a regular infection here that untreated can lead to sepsis. Wound treatment makes sense in a survival game.
