Yeah I got it in early access or something and it was pretty basic. I was a bit peaved. But I forgot about it for years and they kept adding stuff. It has a lot of good missions now. Also a fun sandbox mode to try things out. I heard talk of multiplayer but I don't know if that's in already or what. I liked the missions.

Gonna second the Apotheon mention, which was a very fun game with a unique aesthetic.
Fight Knight is one of the best indie games I've played recently. It's a PS2-style brawler (think God Hand) wearing a Blobber coat of paint. The combat can be a little janky but the game oozes creativity for its perfectly paced runtime. The levels are very clever and the game finishes very strong. The game's launch was sabotaged by a woman making some very bizarre allegations against the main dev, so I don't think it got the love it deserves.
For a more hesitant recommendation, I was pretty fascinated by Anima: Gate of Memories and its expandalone The Nameless Chronicles. These are DMC-likes with some pretty interesting combat ideas but stiff and unpolished execution. Apparently these are based on a tabletop RPG, though you probably wouldn't guess it from the games themselves. The voice acting can be cringe, and the setting is gonzo edgy anime trash where every character has a thousand-year tragic backstory. But these games really have something special going on, and come together for some great moments, especially boss fights.
