What's better on a psi headband? +10% crit chance or +50% crit damage? The other Optional are the mufflers.

For something that's going to happen more than 10^5 times, you can do this:

crit chance * improved crit damage (total, not the adition)

improved crit chance (total) * crit damage.

And pick whatever is higher. This only applies for big numbers, tho, I dunno the math for lower amounts (you're not going to crit 100000 times in your game, probably)

EDIT: I think. Don't quote me on that, it's been a while since uni, ok?

So, what would be a good defense against crossbows? Is there any? They screw me bad. Shield emitters won't work, and most armors can't do much either. Also, fuck electric bolts.

So a report on my character. Even though I've mostly taken pistol related perks, I've switched to using SMGs as a primary weapon. I can attack tons of times, and the damage is just as much as pistols. It does help that many of the perks cross over both weapons, like rapid shot, aimed shot, expertise and knee cap. But the sharpshooter and gunslinger perks are kinda wasted. Game has become much easier, it's a shame that pistols are so terribly gimped. I'm still planning on taking Execute next level, with that and a customized pistol, might start using them some more again.

Looking at pistol feats and pistols, the best pistol build would probably be one with steadfast aim and rely on critical hits, as it adds quite a bit to crit chance, if I've calculated correctly (haven't checked in game yet), .44 hammerer gets 11% bonus to crit chance, so without any other boosts 16% on gun alone. With other equipment you can probably get it at least high 20s easily.

Crit chance is higher, but I'm using psionic mania, which is a guaranteed crit every 5 turns. Kinda debating dropping Mufflers. I have Psychosis, but most fights end before I run out of juice, or I can just use more boosters.

I'd take the +50% crit damage with psionic mania for better alpha strike. Haven't reached that point though with a psi build so can't confirm...

Psionic mania is scary powerful. Works wonders with Cryokinetic Orb (every shard crits), proxy+punch (both crit) and fireball+pyromaniac.

Yeah, I think base 7%, with 7% more from recklessness, .44 hammerer should get 15% (half of 40-10), and then goggles for 8% (best I've seen so far- but it can probably be higher than this). So you could end up with 37% crit chance assuming this is all additive. Thing is I don't have the strength to get steadfast aim. I have 3 STR, and at this point have to figure out whether to pour my remaining 3 stat points into STR, which will be useless until I hit level 24 (I'm already at 14), or to pump my DEX from 10 to 13 to reduce AP costs.

Crossbows are low speed high damage weapons, so shield emitters are not very effective, but try to get or craft a low frequency shield emitter, and stay out of the crossbow dude line of sight, force him near you, or kill him first. alternatively ignore it if you are a heavy, there are bigger threats like psis.

Pretty much what i suspected. LFE can't do shit either anyways, my problem with crossbow guys is those stealthy fuckers, my initiative is shit, and altho my PER is 9 i can't detect them on time.

The enemies so far that give me more trouble are psionics, as they tend to do a shit ton of damage.

As a melee character I tend to use line of sight a lot to manage fights.

A quick review of the feats I have taken for my stealth Knife-/throwing stuff-build:

Fan-Fucking-tastic:
- 'Taste for blood', I was unsure for some time whether to take this, but so glad that I did. The damage increase is incredible and this makes you only want to use 'serrated' knives.
- 'Cheap shots', almost worth getting to 5 INT just for this feat. With the amount of attacks I am doing I can often incapacitate an opponent at least once pr turn, making tough 1-on-1 enemies easily defeated. The 50% increase to crit dmg is just icing on the cake.
- 'Cut-throat', was the reason for me to make this build. This far most enemies have been humanoids, so most of the time it is just a 'kill an opponent of choice'-feat. And some times it will make unwinnable fights into cakewalks. Semi-Combos with 'Taste for blood' as well.
- 'Hunter' , not a feat you can pick, but the greatest contributer to my knife dmg output.
Do the quests in Camp Hathor to get it

As expected:
- 'Nimble', hard to evaluate, but I think the added Dodge/evasion boni and armor pen. reduction are definitely worth it. Does limit your armor selection some what.
- 'Recklessness', critical dmg is important for this build and this feat was taken at the beginning, when there were not too many interesting feats to pick.
- 'Interlooper', nice to have. Not crucial.
- 'Expose weakness', took it to better deal with high-armor enemies. Helped me deal with high-armored enemies.
- 'Fatal Throw', not really needed, but when it's appliable it is semi-decent.

Regrets:
- 'Ninja looter', only for pickpocket/stealth people ofc. Still I don't think I have ever, not once, picked a pocket while stealthy. Completely unnessecary feat for any build.

EDIT: This is the build btw http://underrail.info.tm/?build=AwG...MBxMAbNiAOwoBMY94DTjopSESFNbNAnBm3iUQqfqRwQgA

Since I had great success with a knife build, I'd recommend you take Ripper (5 will required) and Vile Weaponry (10 biology). Also I hope you took crippling strike and the thing that lowers damage threshold. They're a must for any melee build.

Should have noticed that Ripper feat, but only have 3 will now so won't happen. 'Vile weaponry' I've been looking at a lot, and will probably take at next level-up. It just costs 10 skill points as well, but that should not be a problem.

I did not take 'crippling strike', but took 'Expose weakness'.

Crippling strike has the AP of a normal attack, but does 1.5x the damage and lowers enemy strength by 2. One of the best feats you can get on melee char.

I found Dirty Kick to be p. gud as a sneaky stabby dude, as it allows you to kill someone before they can fight back or call for back-up. I reckon it might become obsolete once you get Cut-Throat thou, but I didn't get that far.

Energy pistols however are most definitely not gimped.

Fwiw, I used a ~120 quality seeker lens in the crafting menu and it showed 15% increased crit chance. I'm pretty sure that is the cap.

Any crossbow specialists have any luck against enemies with crazy-high mech armor (like the industrial bots)? Even my 175% (+Critical Power) crits aren't breaking single-digit damage, though they were just fine for almost one-shotting plasma sentries. Elemental Bolts helps a bit, but it still takes a ton of acid/shock bolts to take out those monstrosities. Bladelings were a similar problem, but at least they weren't immune to burrower poison / bleed.

The right answer is probably 'just sneak past them'... I was just wondering if I'm missing anything obvious.

Wow! I made a mistake BTW - a .44 hammerer costs 30 AP, so that's +10% critical chance from steadfast aim. My character is starting to shine. Crafted a custom .44 hammerer (107 quality) and put in the smart attachment (eighty something quality) for plus 40% special attack damage and he can blast enemies to bits with aimed shot and rapid fire.

The key though is combining it with an SMG. I can kneecap opponents with the smg for 10 AP, and then my .44 does a further 15% more damage due to opportunist. I can only imagine what Taser + Execute would do specially in addition to smart goggles for more special attack damage. I also plan to pick up point shot eventually for special attacks galore. I usually take on enemies at point blank range, so a special attack that costs me half the AP sounds really sweet.

I remember reading about some special acid bolts (not regular that do ~20-30 dmg per shot) but I'm not that far into the game yet to confirm. Maybe that + Elemental Bolts could make a difference. I also had trouble versus bladelings, even with 5 poison stacks it was painfully slow. Without traps I'd be utterly fucked at that part.

Wow, these are amazing. Did you do them in Photoshop, and with what filters?
Photoshop, basically cropping and adjusting the lighting/hue. Nothing fancy really, I just had to find somewhat fitting pics. Most of them are edited from already existing custom avatars from W2, Shadowrun, etc.
