Are people actually expecting Paradox to throw millions of dollars on some E3 trailer? That trailer was just fine considering the budget they are working with.

:lol::lol::lol:
a good trailer =! millions of dollars

It basically comes down to having editing skills and a small amount of taste. Paying someone up to $1000 could give you something top-notch. FFS, there are fan trailers of old classics that completely piss over anything (including those expensive as fuck and unnecessary CGI turds) presented on this garbage conference.

- we'll be playing a fatebinder in the employ of Kyros, "the evil overlord"
- the game uses the same engine as Pillars of Eternity
- the game has a lot of reactivity, but he doesn't want to give away any spoilers
- there are cool combos in the game: one combo can "suspend all of the enemies in the air, and you can take pot shots at them with ranged weapons while they're helpless in the air"

End of interview.

But Tyranny will also have choices and consequences as well as complex faction mechanics, like Grim Dawn.

As years roll by, I wonder more and more how many of those who say "Diablo clone" have never actually played the original Diablo.

When I was a dumb kid, I would sometimes take my new game boxes to school to show off and maybe give to somebody to copy. The other kids at school thought the gameplay screenshots on the Baldur's Gate box looked like Diablo.

You're at least 15 years younger than I imagined.

I bought Fallout 2 hoping it would be Diablo with guns.

Nah, I've just gotten old enough to consider my high school self to have been a dumb kid.

So does Diablo. And any game that isn't a single-screen arcade title.

Josh said:
lol who cares re: diablo story
either no one, in which case they shouldn't put any resources into it, or a lot of people, which means it's important enough to do well

anyway it seems like the majority of people playing these games don't care that almost every storyline is about corruption -- specifically, corruption that just overwhelms and transforms by force, not through any subtle process or progressive sequence of personal moral compromises

Josh said:
It seemed like corruption re: Lazarus and Leoric and such, wasn't the same as WoW corruption, it was more like getting drunk, yeah it turns them into an asshole but that asshole was always there waiting to come out anyway so its not like you have to forgive or sympathize with them.
true, but that's also essentially an (original) diablo storyline, isn't it?

arthas also has a more traditional descent into corruption, but it seems like a lot of blizz storylines in recent memory just involve corruption through force.

Good trailer according to the masses includes shitloads of action, CGI and heavily edited gameplay and thus costing millions of dollars ;)

You can do all of the above (except for CGI) with the sum I've mentioned above. Don't care what masses consider good or not, which should be obvious since I'm posting on the fucking Codex of all the places on the internet.

Guess what, gaming companies don't do trailers for Codex or you specifically. So yeah, what the masses like does actually matter whether you care about it or not.

Yes, imagine that, someone actually wants to sell their product to as many people as possible. Even if you look at cRPG crowd... Codex doesn't exactly represent "the masses" of those fans either.
